I hiked up to Chinook Pass in WA to go skiing last July, and we built about a 30-40 foot step down. I hit the jump all morning just fine, but then when we took an hour to eat lunch the sun hit the jump and the snow got really soft. I didn't realize how soft it had gotten, so I teed it up after lunch with a backflip and basically blasted right through the lip, and completely underrotated the flip. Landed hard on my shoulders and ended up fracturing my L1 and L2 vertebrae and compressing five discs. I was pretty bummed about it, but for a broken back I actually came away pretty damn lucky.
