The Stoked Thread

Paypals integration with canada post for shipping is awesome, makes the whole process so much easier! Several NSC Hoodies are on their way to the mailbox today!

Finally got around to picking up a copy of The God Delusion, I have high expectations! I also may be drinking a case of Sierra Nevada and devouring an entire delicious pumpkin pie with an attractive, intelligent girl (this still seems paradoxical to me) tomorrow night, and possibly having a drunk pool tournament at my house. Am I weird if I can't decide which I am more excited about?

Just got back from washing dishes in a soup kitchen downtown. Their volunteer dishwasher that has done it for 15 years or something fell and hurt his head this morning, so I guess I was where I was supposed to be. It was a bit crazy being trained to use it by a Chinese dude who spoke very interesting English, but after I realized that the whole place was super haphazard, I just started throwing stuff in the washer and putting it where it seemed to belong.

Stoked on doing something useful for once. I'll be going back.

whoa....to say it is beautiful would be an understatement.

thats gotta take some seriouso endurence

off to be in my best friend's wedding. :) known her since i was two, can't believe this day has come. haha i feel so far away from it... to each their own.

Will be a good party.

I would really love to hike through Glacier sometime when there weren't a lot of people (like they did), but I never have the time during the fall. So I am stuck backpacking other places that are still super sweet, which isn't such a bad comprimise. But Glacier is an incredibly beautiful place even when it is full of people; perhaps I will have to do a little hike sometime anyway.

I lived there for two and half months this summer, at Sperry Chalet while washing dishes. We hiked out over Gunsight pass, they way they came in.

And yes, it is one of the most beautiful places ever.

One of these days I'll put a trip report.

I just watched an Opeth concert on our new 42" flatscreen. I usually hate tv, but this was just glorious. Fuck yeah.

I think I'm going to have to start making trips over to the mainland for these premieres.

I was at one of the local boardshop premieres lastnight, which got me sooo stoked on the season. Where are you snow..?

Sox!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How the fuck did they pull that one off?

I just heard by Boss's cell phone ring to the tune of "It's business time" by the flight of the concords. It's his wife. That's awesome.

Ryan Schmies is jealous and wants to figure out how matty made such sick fucking graphics. This was one of the things brought to the bargaining table

I'm joking. I actually have no idea how Scott pulled this off other then the fact that the K2 guys are awesome. But Ryan Schmies is stoked on the skis.

there's a new Porsche on the way. 4-door, 4-seater that hopefully they'll develope into a GT at some point (that last part is purely wishful thinking on my part). stoked as shit on what could potentially be a car you can both pick up a bunch of girls from the club in AND smoke Lambos around the track. so stoked that i think i broke my stoke.

Yup, been in development for a while. Will be produced at the same factory that made the Carrera GT. If you haven't seen pictures yet, spy shots (I don't think there is an official one just yet) show that it will come out looking very much like a 4 door Cayman. Expect a sort of fastback design, kinda similar to the Merc CLS. It was initially rumored to be getting the Cayenne engines, (V6, V8, turbo V8) but I don't know where they stand on that now. I do know however, that a hybrid version of some sort will make its way into the car.

While the Panamara does sound/look sweet, the Aston Martin Rapide is where it's at. Obviously it will be more expensive (like most Astons) but it is just so damn good looking.

My park skis, called the Blue Steele. 179 (true measurement), 111-85-111.

Stiff flex, super poppy, and tips that put out a 60 ft roostertail at speed. Same tip size:

Yeah, 2 sort of park skis coming. more info soon. although they won't be available for sometime I suspect.

K2 was fine. haha actually it wasn't worth driving up from Portland at 5AM because I seriously knew everything there. The only cool thing was seeing some damn cool tool. There was a CNC-mill the size of my whole shop, there was really cool cnc profiler, and there was an AWESOME cnc edge bender....but that was it. I knew all the materials they use, how they lay them up, how they finish them. Everything is so similar to how we do it.

I feel awesome about how are skis are getting made after seeing

I got to see some stuff I can't mention, but it really isn't all that exciting.

But overall the facility was cool. I got to hang out in the design centers for K2, ride, and a bunch of other shit. They totally have a bar in the K2 section. haha.

Got the card of the director of corporate identiy and the head of product development for K2. Also got to fondle some full tilt and prototype marker stuff...

As of 5 hours ago I am no longer on call or available for fire dispatch or emergency response this year. I think I've worked about 70 of the last 85 days, maybe more. I was thinking earlier how I have slept outside at least 90 of the past 120 days, many times right next to an active fire. What an experience. Sometimes overwhelming. Sometimes desperate. Relentlessly exhausting. Always dangerous. Somehow I am a bit stronger through it all.

Also, I've been taking tests and evaluations for my chainsaw operating certifications. I passed the evals with high marks and am now a qualified and certified B Sawyer, which is a pretty high level in the chainsaw world.

I've managed to save about $10,000 for my year long trip I am about to embark on. One week from now and I will be about to head back to Boulder. Four weeks from now and I will already be traveling. First San Fransisco, then a roadtrip on the East Coast for 10 days over Xmas (My girlfriend and I will be driving back and forth between DC and up state New York), the Fiji, New Zealand, Thailand, Nepal, India, Australia, and back to New Zealand for 6 more months. It is hard for me to even comprehend what I am about to do. I'm not sure I can think of an emotion to describe how I feel.
