The State of Helmet Audio

I have had Giro Tuneups, RED audio kit and Bern Eight Tracks in the last three years. None of these have made it through a complete season. Why does helmet audio suck, or can someone tell me a positive story of their helmet kit working for a few years. The RED was the worst, the Bern sounded the best but shorted out in a couple months. Giro tune ups seems to be solid but they cut out my last few days of the year and started to crackle.

Since I am too cheap to buy an audio kit for my helmet, I took an old pair of sony's that I had, took off everything but the speaker, and looped them under the velcro in the helmet to keep them in place. Sounds super ghetto, and it is, but this has worked for over 3 years now with no problems whatsoever.
