The Skiing Lifestyle

Hey NS. I'm going to start off by saying that skiing is probably the biggest influences in my life. I have been blessed by being able to ski and ride Whistler, Blackcomb for most of my life, and to have a family who not only skis, but supports me as well with not only gear, but due to my dads job, opportunities to ski all over the world. I can say this with 100% honesty that almost every night, I go to bed "daydreaming" about skiing, and what it would be like to become a pro. TJ Schiller said this in MSP's "In Deep." "Some people say there is no soul in this whole freeskiing movement. But there are kids who go up everyday and shred the park as hard has they can until closing, and wake up limping the next day to go do it again. And if that isn't soul, I don't know what is." Everyday I ski, I see kids and adults alike, up skiing for the same purpose. To have fun. That is what skiing is about. A skier should be judged on how much fun he has, not how good he is. I have more respect for kids who may really suck at skiing, but are yelling and screaming in joy while skiing down the mountain. Some people are more concerned about what he or she is wearing, or what skis they have, more then if there having fun. The more fun you have skiing, the better you will become. Plain and simple. I bet most people have dreamed of becoming a pro skier at some point of their life. I dream of this to. One of my guilty pleasures is watching ski edits, and imagining that person to be me, and i'm sure other people do this to. Anyone who has the drive, determination, and aspiration to become the best skier possible, these are the people who will become professional. So if you have the drive, push yourself to become the best you can be, and who knows where you will end up. But the most important thing is to have fun. In the end, you can look back on your life, remember how much fun skiing was, and how stoked you were, and that is what really counts.

dang dude. i respect you so much for writing this. it has inspired me at a very low point in my life. thank you and +K out the roof.

i give you the highest respect and the highest vibes possible. i hope that all of your problems get sorted out with speed

thanks man. oh and by the way, i will be very suprised if this thread doesnt get popular.

man, so many inspirational posts up these days. im fuckin loving it. this just made me wanna get out there and ski every day for the rest of my life. if only my home mountain was open right now, my life would be complete. +k

Dude, this is SUCH a good post. I really hope most get it here....skiing isn't about being better than everyone else, or being the next big coolest douchebag.....

Skiing is about enjoying life, and not taking for granted this finite existence we live....thank God others out there "get it"....you have helped restore my faith in humanity....thank you

and another thing. ban all noobs should be changed to ban all trolls. without noobs there would be no new fresh skiers. so lighten up and help them out!

10/10 man. such a good post.

i was going to explain my story of skiing and the unbeatable passion i have for the sport, but it was getting way too long.

Those are some great, and true words dude... but I'm sure as you, and anyone, who feels so passionately about skiing (or anything for that matter) can attest to, no words can really even describe the feeling of loving something so much and being so dedicated to it that even thinking about it can give you so much happiness...

couldn't have said it better myself ma man, sick explanation. half the time i go to pass out i toss and turn ready just thinking about skiing. and i'm on the east coast in jersey and am just WAITING to get on them skis. heading to vt this weekend actually.

10/10, one of the better posts of seen on Newschoolers.

Such a good post.

Spread the stoke everywhere.

wooooo!

but as for the pro thing, i've already accepted that i never will be one. i'm 17 and my best trick is a 540 safety. but that doesn't stop me from having the best day of my life every time i ski.

and there are a predicted 5 days of snow in a row coming up for my home mountain! finally!

Man, that is awesome. Definitely makes me wanna becone the best pro I can be, regardless of support or cash flow.

Whoa thats deep... +++K for you!

I vote this story/write thing is a sticky for new skiers to read... its so true.

sooo good that someone drops the reason why this sport is here to have fun and see how far you can push the limits

+k and very moving thread. as much as we hate each other on these forums and even though we are d bags to each other sometimes we can never take away that bonding between two skiiers. I mean i cant even get that mad at gapers cuz u know what at least they are trying ya know. my family is completely unsupportive of me skiing cuz all they care about is school. my siblings wont even try skiing or even snowboarding so im alone in the battle. i work for all my money, buy all my gear and tickets and but every ounce of energy i have into the mountain. sure it would be nice to go pro but my real goal is just to ski until i die and live life to its fullest

***woah novel***

Russell kills it and has fun doing it. That to me is keeping it real in a more REAL sense. He is my hero too.

This thread is one of the best that there has been in a while. You made my day. ++++K for that.

I have so much respect for you for posting this.

yeah dude! 10/10 for getting me so stoked on my life. this is what its all about, thanks for spreadin the lovee

so true so true. Its tough nowadays to remember things like this, but you only have one life so go out and live it to the fullest. Skiing is the way i want/intend to do this

1. fuck that's so true

2. fuck you just blow my mind that was intense

3. fuck you just made me realize that skiing is my damn fucking life
