The powder buyers guide

Just got home from being gone most of the day and found it in my mailbox. So stoked to sit down this evening and read it!

Not sure, but I read that article about them chasing storms in the west and the one by Rogge about the dry slopes. Both are good reads.

i got it and forgot i got it because i just tossed it aside and now that i remember i got it i have no motivation to go find and read it, so ill just sit right here

i thought everyone made a bigger deal of the buyer guide. or maybe it was just freeskiers.

but anyway, i want to ski really badly now. didn't read it all as i'm saving some for work. but it was good read so far.

on3p got some love for the caylor, which was kinda cool.

Gonna read as many articles as I can tonight. Powder's articles are really something else compared to other skiing mags

reading mine right now, my favorite part so far is when Symms is talking about energy drinks, pretty hilarious.

Fkna rock solid intro/tribute to Kip made me call a touring partner to see how his summer was going. Sweet articles on skiin the AK Revelations and Mt. Washington and the perfect storm. The Jaded local crushed it per ussual.

The skiin and gittin jibby with it on turf, Sysms crap and up in coming ski gymnasits stuff and park ski reviews would probably fit better in freeskier cause i aint got shit to do with POWDER

Cody Townsend. I was so excited, and surprised, to get my copy the other day!! Great photo ad of Chris Benchetler rockin his Bent Chetlers!!

So stoked on the Caylor this year!

Articles were way good. Symms killed it, some sweet TR's and tributes, and see if you can spot the Josh Anderson photobomb.

Elliptical rocker curve, and the Lite option - same dimensions, just a softer flex. The 191 Lite will be my everyday ski this year when I'm not testing protos.

I am ashamed to say this but... I have no skiing mag subscriptions. Any chance i can pick it up at a newstand on my way out of Denver International Airport Thursday?

powders articles always enthrall me
I have every powder from the last 9 years

but thats because I dont throw my magazines away- not one
I have over 1100 car, skiing, and other mags

Where Rogge? I feel sorry for him POWDER never sends him to ski the POWDER.

Wheres Smuggs ?looks like my contributing editor bros fine peice on your hair raising experience on a sweet happy valley peak while skiing the POWDER didnt make it. again I think that yater tater kids gonna be a good one but there isnt any POWDER in the xgames I think they smash down the POWDERZ and spin to win. But hell you could put him or wally timnuts or even bdog flashin wanna b thug gang signs on the cover and as long as it slashshin a pow turn in the POWDER or comin out of the white room Id smile

Maybe not as big as seein an oustanding mag on the cover of my fav mag.

YO ROGGE pm me I got a good old meets new 40th aniverary story idea and it involves Captain POWDER

and Slayin wasatch POWDER

It was delivered Saturday for me.

It's sitting on my nightstand but I've yet to read it cover to cover. I've done a flip through, and looked at all the pretty pictures, and read parts of the gear review.

I was stoked to see some Mt. Washington love. I'm hoping we see a steady slew of EC Powder articles this year. They are always a nice change-up from all the writeups on AK, Wasatch or Jackson.

Never really like the annual gear review sections. They seem more like extended advertising to me. They also tend to miss the mark on describing the skis true attributes very well as you can't sum up a ski in 1 very short paragraph. I prefer the review style of rags like Mountain Bike Action, where they have 2-3 full review articles on a bike in every issue and they cover the bike in full depth with the reviews covering how the bike responds in each different condition. Ski mag gear reviews feel more like just a consolidation of every company's online catalog paired with some arbitrary commentary.

Hrmmm...

I saw it on the rack amidst all the other rags at the local grocery store last night.

Possibly it may not have made its way to Canuckistan yet. I'm going to go for a walk and see if it's at International News.

In retrospect it would've been easier to just subscribe to the thing.

Hey hey, can't go making life too easy now!

Likely save some bills too! Buying at newsstand markup is never the most efficient form of purchasing rags regularily.

buying it at a newsstand? subscribe ftw

I wanna know why the mag ive been suscibin too since i was a snot nosed midwest rope tow rug rat is becoming filled with shit thats got nothing to do with POWDER. I understand the hard times in the print media bidness and the need to bring new readers/scribers, but I dont subscribe to the DRAKE to find out what the hot crankbait on the pro walleye tour is even though its still fishin. Or want to read carbonfibered roadie bike reviews in a mountain bike mag. Its not that I dont like newschool Them wasatch dubatch groms are killin it In the Fuckin POWDER none the less. So if you get a chance to answer a long time subscribing skibums questions when your done not sending rejection lettersto the peeps dieing to be interns could ya maybe shed some insight.

Or I guess Ill fire off a letter to DT and ask him to change the name of the mag cause at least when the Ski Journal comes as long as it contains skiing articles Im good.

Please quit freeskiing up the POWDR or at least explain why

Ps I like your wriiting style and ES is a stud protog its the non POWDER content that harshes my hippie

powderskibum mellow

i read it, much better than last years. i have a subscription but you can always find it at like barns n noble or borders, most newstands dont have it because it's just not popular enough

I don't have any magazine subscriptions because im not that kinda guy. I will keep an eye out for it at La Plata (durango) airport and Denver International. It would be a good read considering i am looking to get lots of new gear this year

To answer your question shortly, POWDER has never only featured just Powder skiing. In fact, there were a quite a few early spring issues in the late 70s and early 80s that covered kayaking, tennis, sailing, and snowboarding (this section would later become SNOWBOARDER magazine). The title on the magazine will always be the same but for me the subhead says it all, "The Skier's Magazine." If there are skis on their feet and it's a good story, it'll go into the magazine.
I do encourage you to write a letter to DT. Send it to PowderMag@sorc.com. Subject: Letter to the Editor

I read about 3 articles in it and was planning on reading the rest this week but my dickhead friends who were in town for outside lands apparently needed reading material for the plane ride and I'm stuck with no first issue after subscribing for the past 4 years. I'm going to barnes and noble tonight as I also don't throw anything away (surfer, DIRT, powder)
