The perfect way to fall

I'm going to be ridiiculous, and put in a serious answer.

When you hit the ground you want to do a 'high fall', landing on your side, hitting with as much of your body as possible, from your leg all the way to your arm. You even want to hit the ground a little with your arm when you come down. If you land backseat like that, your bindings will pop off, and take some of the impact too.

There's really no point explaining it, you need to go find some mats, and a Judo/ Aikido teacher to show you what to do.

Bored in class so I will give a legit response. Try to never land sideways, if you overshoot a trick and begin to over rotate, its always better to try and land wither forward or switch even if you know for sure your going to wreck. Try to always if you fall on a jump and are rag dolling down a landing to try and lift your ski edges so they don't catch in the snow. Yea thats all I got.

tuck your elbows to your sides so your shoulders dont pop out, and never try to stop yourself with your skis in an out of control fall or you can tear them up-thats why you see so many people summersault a crash.

other than that, tuck and roll...or slide on a park jump.

if you know you are going to overshoot or undershoot try and sit back and let the flex of your tails take a lot of the force when you crash.

oh yea, wear a helmet!

When you realize your gonna fuck up... overshoot, undershoot you fucked up with your rotation or grab and you realize your gonna fall? Basic physic, your body is moving at high speed and falling will reduce his speed. What you want to avoid are big and strong impact on one part of your body (It will break). Alway let your leg get the first impact, but dont try to stay on them, roll forward or backward so the rest of your body rolls on the snow to decelerate your speed and in the end try to stay on back untill you stopped. In general, its a bit like when those parkourt guy land a big jump, first impact on legs, then try to roll and finish on your back once your on your back keep your hands close to you (a bit like a turtle on his back) never try to use your arms to stop yourself too many squishy bones you could break easily. Knowing how to fall realy help preventing injuries!!

Don't try to not bail when bailing and just go with the flow and u should come out all right and don't put out your hands to cusion the fall that's how u break wrists

i had the perfect fall today, was going downa perfect hill covered in 2 ft+ of powder and tried a little 180 off a small rock and i dont even know how but i double ejected and flew like a solid 10 feet staight into powder...felt like heaven...thats the perfect fall.

i know distributing your body weight evenly seems like a good idea, but it really isn't, its just asking for a broken collarbone. just try to land skis first, you legs are by far the best at absorbing impacts

I think he was making fun of you bud.

One tip to not falling in the first place is to commit. Getting scared, and leaning too far back on a box or rail will lead to a BADLY bruised hip. I speak from experience.

I knew people were going to hit me up for that post, but sorry, no.

I have overshot/undershot some really big jumps that others have been carried away from, and have never come away with more than some snow on skin scrapes. That's from 10+ years of martial arts training/ falling.

The one time I tried to let my legs take the impact directly, I got bruised heels, which sucked.

You need to practice though, and then your body will take over. If you're scared of the ground, you're screwed.

nah, the more you brace for impact the more tense your body will be, and the worse your injuries will be! so relax your body as much as possible and try not to land with all your weight on any one body part (spread out the force of impact)
- avoid bracing yourself w/ your hands to avoid broken wrists- roll w/ it (realize when you should stop rolling or spinning, if you are...not all times are equal)
that said, i usually fall and spin out on my ass. which is hilarious to everyone including myself every single fucking time.

i tried doing my first 3 last year on like a 25 footer and landed at like 270 on my side. i literally bounced off the snow and put it to my skies. i'd like to believe i afterbanged.

hey im not saying you are wrong or anything but if you take the impact with your whole body, from your legs to your arm, wouldn't you also hit your head? isnt the head something that you want to avoid hitting the most?

id rather get bruised heels than becoming retarded or paralyzed.

again, im not saying your wrong. just my opinion.

Yeah, I know what you mean.

You definitely definitely don't want to hit your head... because you're landing on your side, you can keep your head up pretty easily. You're not landing on your back, so your not whiplashing so much. But when you learn to fall you consciously practice keeping your head up-

I'm kind of wary of putting advice on here for people who aren't going to practice first, and properly. But I definitely think it's the best way to fall.

I'm surprised so many people haven't learnt from an expert at some point- if you're a good skiier, and hit a lot of kickers, wouldn't that be one of the most important things? I wonder if the pros do...
