The Official Dream Thread

So since there isn't an official dream thread I decided to start one. This thread is a place to post about your favorite dreams, any techniques you use to get lucid, and general discussion about the art of dreaming.

If anyone hasn't tried to lucid dream i would highly recommend it, as it is one of the most literal and figurative "unreal" experiences you could possibly have.

Look this shit up ns and try it tonight!

P.S) for all the first time "dreamers" i recommend the finger technique to get you started

ima post my dream carclick for huge pic

Threads for this, my dreams used to be pretty crazy over the last months, but they stopped being so vivid the last couple of days.

FILD is a very useful technique for lucid dreaming, if you're not familiar with it then I suggest you google it.

haha man i fucking drove one of these things in a dream last night.... really couldn't call it a lambo tho it was more of a koenisegg

I've lucid dreamt a few times. Usually its for a couple second because I realize I'm lucid dreaming and that I can do whatever the fuck I want and then I wake myself up

I'm going to try the FILD method tonight. Because the few times ive had a LD its been a fantastic experience but this time I have a goal. I am going to ask someone in my dream what my biggest fear/weakness is. Should be interesting.

I've had weird experiences with sex in dreams.

If I bang a girl that actually exists and that I know in real life, it seems to be much more realistic than if I bang some random that my mind generates for me. Since I don't know the random, I don't know her personality, her exact looks, her size, weight, hair color etc etc and I've found that they do 2 things different. They change the way the look every time you glance back simply because my mind doesn't know who I'm having sex with. And they also seem to never have any emotions and just either look through me or off to the side.

I've had quite a few LD's and this is just my personal experience. I want to try to go deeper into my dreams and since its sort of a gateway between your conscious and sub conscious, I want to ask myself about myself and maybe have some profound experience or something.

Thats the plan at least!

But none of them have been self induced like I'm trying to do now. Every time i feel my body go to sleep I freak out and wake up.

ever since I learned seeing yourself in a mirror can cause crazy nightmares ive been afraid to dream

Dammit I got so close tonight! I did the FILD method and actually felt my body go to sleep while remaining awake consciously. I could feel my breathing and eye movements change and I no longer had control over them. The only thing I had control over was my 2 fingers and my mind.

As I stayed asleep I could hear a static TV and I tried to open up my dream eyes to check out what was up. I opened up my eyes to see my room but my TV was missing. My window was producing the gray static sound and as soon as I thought about it, I realized i was dreaming and woke up.

SOmething similar happened to me. I used the FILD method after sleeping for about 6 hours. I don't know if I was dreaming, but when I moved my fingers I felt this weird sensation. I could only barely move my body, and I was hearing a loud static like noise. When I opened my eyes, I saw a bunch of dark squiggly lines flying around everywhere.

Ya there was a bunch of things about my dream "room" that just seemed off to me. I couldn't pinpoint them all but it was just weird. I'm hoping that as I keep trying this method I'll be able to more quickly do some reality checks and become more comfortable in a lucid state so that I can start being more in control of my dreams.

I found that the hardest part was opening my eyes. I could feel my real eyes moving back and forth since I was in REM sleep but opening my dream "eyes" was very difficult and took what felt like was 15 minutes just to get them to crack open while my fingers seemed to be on autopilot moving back and forth keeping my conscious mind awake while I try to control my dream body.

Even what I experienced last night was a whole new feeling and was pretty trippy and cool. Just realizing that I have a completely different dream body that can be controlled consciously is a pretty weird thing and the little bit I was awake and walking around my room searching for the static noise, I kept doing my reality checks over and over and every time I tried to push my hand into my bed or through some object, it would go right through with no resistance. Even though this told me I was dreaming, it wasn't enough to make me wake up. It wasn't until I saw that my window was filled with this gray static void that my sub-conscious was dreaming and I woke up immediately after.

i am intrigued by the idea of lucid dreaming will you link me to a website or explain how one goes about doing this.

last night i dreamt that i logged onto NS, i had an angry PM from Mr.Bishop about harassing Jane6, so for some reason that still remains unclear, he made me a mod. There was this weird new section in the forums for mods that i cant remember the name of, but it was all weird - yet there and then it made sense - that my name was still Shorty. weerrrd huh

i read the title as "the official denim thread".

but lucid dreaming is tight too; i kept a dream journal for a few months one summer.

I love how everyone always goes one about lucid dreaming in the same way: ooh you can fly, teleport, materialize things, drive a Lambo whilst everyone really does it for the sex.

That said, I've become quite good at lucid dreaming, really quite good for obvious reasons.

SUCCESS! Finally had my first successful dream just barely using the FILD method.

I tried a new reality check today. Plugging my nose and trying to breathe in through my nose. After moving my fingers back and forth for about 2 minutes I felt this tingling sensation all over my body. I tried my reality check and found that I could breathe through my nose even though it was plugged. I was still laying face down in my bed with my eyes closed at this point.

First thing I had to do was lift myself away from my body. I took this very slow this time since last time I woke up at this point. I tried to lift myself away and open my eyes and I saw black fuzziness and heard a dark laughing voice. I got rid of that in my head and kept my eyes closed and slowly sat up in my bed and thought to myself and imagined what my room looked like. When I opened my eyes, I saw my bedroom just how it normally was and then my dream took off from there.

I can't remember much but I think I stayed in my room for a bit just walking around looking at things. I remember trying the light switch and it wasn't working properly thus indicating again that I was in a dream. Finally I ran for my window and jumped outside and flew straight up into the air spinning as fast as I could and finally when I stopped spinning, I fell down into water.

I was actually swimming inside of our fish tank in my basement. I kept doing my reality check to make sure I wasn't going to drown and sure enough i could breathe underwater. I swam around for a while and decided that I wanted to break out of this tank. So I imagined it in my head and started swimming faster and faster until I reached such a high speed that when I rammed into the acrylic of the tank, it shattered open and I flew through to my freedom.

Outside of the tank I imagined me being upstairs outside my room and my bedroom was full of water spilling out everywhere. I couldn't breathe at this point so I laid down and took a breath of the water that was spilling everywhere. I can't remember much of what happened after this point. I just remember seeing a cute girl and we just walked and talked in a very dark setting and sat down on a bench. I don't know if I asked her about myself (which is one of the things I want to be able to do) but after talking to her, I think I woke up because that's the very last thing I remember.

Feels very good to have a decently good lucid dream and all of the reading up on things about taking it slow and spinning to change the scene definitely helped keep me lucid for longer than I expected.

Lololololol! Im honored to appear in your dreams.

Also, what is "the finger technique"? I use my fingers a lot and I never have any cool experiences (except the obvious ones heh) when using them.

Haha oh you!

Simply put the FILD or finger technique involves setting an alarm or finding some way to wake yourself up right before or during your REM sleep cycle. Then you immediately go back to bed but you move 2 of your fingers back and forth like playing piano keys. These very small motions don't prevent you from falling asleep but keep your conscious mind awake while you body falls asleep.

Typically you can feel this change when you fall asleep as your breathing changes dramatically and you feel very very relaxed all of a sudden. At this point its important to do a reality check like plugging your nose and trying to breathe in or trying to push your fingers through your other palm etc. If the reality check fails, its a sure sign that you are dreaming.

This sounds like the best method. So once you do the reality check and realize youre sleeping, do you imagine yourself getting up, or do you physically, at least what feels like it in the dream, get up? I'm curious how physically real it feels once you realize youre asleep

It literally felt like I got up and sat for a minute before opening my eyes. In your dream you still have your 5 senses and they are very real senses. I definitely forget completely about my sleeping real self in the dream and I AM my dream body and feel, smell, hear, taste, touch everything around me just like in real life. Which makes sense because all of these things are very familiar to you and its pretty easy for the brain to replicate them in a dream. Everything you see in a dream is typically something you're familiar with which is what makes them seem so real until you wake up and realize something was off.

Now that I'm thinking about it. It felt weird in my dream (maybe because I imagined it this way) to sit up as I could feel myself separating from my sleeping body. It felt as though i was attached to it in someway and it took some effort to break free.

Last night I dreamt that the day before highschool graduation I got in a fight with a kid abusing a moose and got in heaps of trouble for it. He was like getting all in the moose's face and I was like Wtf man leave the moose alone. Well things got violent and I ended up kicking the shit out of him but some school officials got involved and told me I couldnt walk at graduation. I tried explaining to the school and my family that this kid was a piece of shit moose abuser but nobody cared. :.(

I had a dream last night that I had a Subaru outback and that I stopped on the side of the road and got into the back and was doing something, I don't know what I was doing but some girl stopped and was like is everything ok? And then left. The road that I was on was built on a marsh and on one side of the marsh there were huge 30 ft tall archaic mushrooms. This was a phenomenon because these don't exist anymore, so I told my former biology professor and he offered me a full ride to my school if I entered my findings in a weird competition. At the competition it was mainly 5th graders and my old friend Calvin from elementary school was there. I did my conversation thing which was doing something weird or interesting to get the judges attention. I didn't win a scholarship but I did win 300 cartons of apple juice. Then I went to a water park that was set next to Lake Michigan it was stormy out and you could see all the people swimming. But then I went into the back and some lady was trying to abduct raven from the teen titans. But the only way the bad lady knew raven was raven was if she had her cape. She protested to take it off so robin ripped it off and threw it to me. I ran out the front door but she was waiting in the lobby. She used mind powers to paralyze us all. THE END

I had my first dream last night in a while. It started with me being mad at my friend because he ripped a new jiberish hoodie I had just bought. Then my dream decided to fuck me in the ass and send my to a world where humans are sacrificed to giants as tribute. I spent the next couple hours running around trying not to be captured by these fucking enormous giant people. It was intense.

I don't know if I could wake myself up but its pretty easy to change the context completely just by wanting imagining what you want to do and doing it. Also lots of people have talked about spinning as a way to change things if something gets too crazy.

I always lucid dream somewhat.

Whenever I dream I'm aware that I'm dreaming and like if something scary is happening I'm never scared of it but I've never gone so far as to try to control the dream. I just honestly feel like I didn't want to haha just was along for the ride

Thats awesome. I used to try really hard, kept a dream journal, did multiple methods, but always gave up after a couple weeks of not being able to do it. I'm going to give it one more go this summer.

I used to be able to do it when I was a kid without thinking. Like one time I was underwater and panicked because I thought I was running out of breathe. Finally I gave up and took a big breath and was like "oh shit I can breath underwater" but I didn't understand the concept of lucid dreaming at the time so I couldn't control anything, I just walked around underwater and explored shit.

I used to also always have nightmares and realize in the dream that it was just a nightmare. Sometimes I would go "it's just a dream wake up" and keep repeating it until I did. It's scary when you do that and can't wake up however.

Another time I was driving my car in a dream, out running the cops, and when I pushed the gas pedal and nothing happened I realized I was dreaming. I slapped my face and didn't feel anything so this confirmed my dream. I told myself to wake up and did which was pretty cool.

i would just close my eyes and open them and i'd be sitting in my bed

one time i realized i was dreaming and in the dream i was trying to make a banana appear but i couldn't

is it possible to have a lucid dream without doing those methods and stuff like do they come naturally? cause i have the same dream at least once a week, it feels like i am coming out of my brain, then i am floating above my body and i can see myself sleeping, then i always hear someone yelling which grows louder and louder and finally it gets so loud and i just wake up. ive had this quite often for as long as i can remember so its not even weird anymore.

and if you do get into a real lucid dream, is it all good stuff that you want to happen? or do you have like a lucid nightmare with all your biggest fears and such cause thatd be scary as fuck

They do come naturally but they're pretty rare for the most part.

And you can make it a nightmare if you want. I could probably confront my nightmare and even ask it questions because since this is my mind, I am in control while lucid. I could ask my nightmare why it scares me and how I can overcome it if i wanted too.

I am kind of trying that sort of thing. I'm hoping I can find someone in my dream and ask them or even ask the dream what my greatest fear is. Who knows what will happen? Maybe my sub conscious will actually show me what I fear the most in the whole world!
