The Nollie

shit mayn why is the nollie being turned into this gimmick trick nowadays?? its not like this shit is a new trick in skiing...

i dont see peeps exagerating their ollie to the same extent...Most "nollies" i see nowadays are just tip drops...

Can skiing's online communty please tell meee

i dono its not a very natural motion on skis.. whenever i even just jump on a rail nollie, im scared im gonna catch my tips and die

the other day i was popping a nollie off a little knoll and my tips caught.. i thought i was gunna die. but besides that, i love nollies.. they are so fun and you can get real creative with them!

tip drops are gay but nollies slay. i dunno if its a "trend" or whatever ive seen and done nollies for a long time but its def a fun thing to bust every now and again.

Anything that is vaguely forward popping is now called a nolly. Hardly anybody actually flexes their skis.

nollies are the shit. to actually press off your tips and catch air is VERY difficult as i am sure you know, and boarder line impossible. i just try and get as close to doing that as possible. half the time your absolutely right, it turns into a tip drop. i agree nollies are the shit along with nose butters

i fully agree that nollies must be actually flexed and popped off the tips but i think there is something to be said for tip drops. if theyre not claimed as nollie and as a trick in their own right i still think they look fucking sick. and you can drop them way harder if you actually don't nollie.

i dunno ive been trying them mostly cuase i saw hornbeck doing them really well and that got me more stoked on them.

i dont care at all if you call me a trendwhore

i guess its just opinion but i dont think tip drops are gay, they just add to the difficulty of your trick and they can look really sick too
and as for nollies, they are definitely becoming more popular and as said above they feel unnatural so while they look pretty sick, they make the trick harder too.

those are next on my list. i tried them once last week, but i ended up pussing out and did some stupid little jump thing and it looked really bad. i think i heard some little girl laughing at me as i afterbanged it tho.

i can nolie my fugitives REAL big. and it is definately an unnatural movement on skis. but i find if i tail press, and throw my body weight forward my tips flex out and i pop really high. all of the kids at my mt. can almost do it, but they cant really get their wright out forward far enough and it just turns into a tip drop. there is one kid that makes tip drops look ill tho. i give him cred.

so true, most nollies suck these days... absolutely blow dick.
just cuz mike hornbeck does them, doesn't mean you have the skill, ability, or style to do it too.
please stop.
thanks

you sir have a lot of misplaced nollie anger. Who the hell cares if people wish to emulate something they see a pro doing that looks sweet to them? Can you honestly say nothing about your skiing is or ever has been some attempt to emulate something else you've seen before?

P.S. - I'm not sure the Golden Wheelchair Award was ever meant to be celebrated

Why does it matter if its an old trick?

That doesnt make it any less fun or creative or whatever.

Theyre interesting and cool! Especially if you mix it up.

Nollies AND tip drops are sick for sure.

I haven's seriously done a nollie onto a rail or a box, maybe a few times. Msot of the time I nollie its over a knoll or something, that or I do a nollie to tailpress, and see where it goes from there. Nollies are fun no matter where you do them, but I think it takes a lot of skill to do a true nollie onto something.

So whats the diff then between a buttered 360 and a nollie 360? There seems to be no distinct line between them. I usually do butter 360s but I guess you might be able to call them a nollie 360 if you get your tips up a little fast. Any comments?

you pretty much never see a real nollie. If you aren't flexing your skis it's not a nollie, you're just hoping and pointing your toes

werd, im tired of seeing half assed butters too, it looks gay when you just start spinning around on flat ground wit no flex

ye that shit matt walker does is just a backscratcher onto a rail. aint no nollie pop there.

but it is such an unnatural thing to do on skis. like the only thing that bends that way is our waist and that is not the place where pop comes from.

A butter is when you basically spin around your ski tips, they stay touching the ground the whole rotation. A nollie is the same as a regular 360 except you pop from the from to back instead of back to front.

too lazy to read the thread but it's a good point. nollies you see in ski videos aren't nollies (except for t-hall pop yer bottlez). yes i've seen hornbeck and matt walker attempt nollies (not mocking them serious business members).

you can call them whatever you want and it's all good but don't call it a nollie. if someone rolled off a drop on a skateboard with their front foot on the nose and called it a nollie it would make no sense. call them tip-drops or whatever bakery item you boys like to call things.

thanks for that awesome post

and i was attempting to do a legit nose flexxed nollie today, and they are hard to catch any air worth attempting a trick in

real nolies wont even look like a nollie uinless you tip drop

In all serousness I think the only kidi saw doing real nollies was will wesson on that down rial in fatman a-basin edit.

Tip drops are cool too as long as you dont pretend they are nollies.

sorry to hear that giray, I'm having the same problem except with the fronts of my ankles where I think I have spurs. I wasn't having any luck on a down rail today so I started trying some nollie lipslides. Couldn't have gone better, my new shit is nollie lipslide to nosepress to switch to waterville stomp

i normally dont get on peoples nuts for tricks in edits in online public but that shifty lip front 2 out was dirtydurrtay

aka nollie noseblunt, just for your next day out.

What's a spur when like your leg hair gets all crazy and pinching? I get that too much.

nollies r so much fun

i used to be able to do them pretty good but now i just do tip drops cause i tried to nollie ont a box and caught my tips and ate shit so ya im kinda scared of them now. but they r still really fun for when yur just fuckin around

This is exactly what I did this weekend. I was on big square tipped skis and did my usual power nollie at 30 MPH next to some tourists on a roller. I caught both tips at the apex of my poing. I was immediately flung forward into my forehead putting pressure on my head neck and then my back when I scorpioned. I've done gazillions of nollies before, and im wondering if square tips is why I caught. Glad I wasn't horribly injured but damn was the wind knocked out of me. The nice tourist collected my poles and I skiied the rest of the day on groomers. Now I wish I could see what happened on gopro.
