The next big trend in skiing

"New wave" skiing has been around for a while now and people are starting to ask what's next, and I think the answer is that skiing's gonna have a punk phase. I have a couple of reasons for this

1. Skiers are already listening to entry level bands

I'm seeing a lot of people already starting to kind of listen to punk on NS. In one of the music threads recently I saw several people say that Dead Kennedys were on their skiing playlist. Everybody's listening to Mission of Burma now too because of Zootspace, and even though they're pretty melodic, accessible post-punk they're definitely not poser shit. I've also seen a few edits in the last couple of months with Blink 182, and even though I hate that kind of stuff a lot of people get into "real" punk later because of it. Pop punk is really popular on Tik Tok too, which I think will get very few people into real punk but it's big enough that it'll probably be some people.

2. Skateboarding

Skateboarding and punk have been connected since they both first started, but somehow punk is the only thing skiing hasn't stolen from skateboarding yet. A lot of trends in skiing are skateboarding trends that we were just really late to pick up so it's only a matter of time.

3. Child Labor

I think Child Labor are ahead of this trend and they'll be the ones to make it really a thing. Today they dropped a bunch of merch with a parody of the Dystopia logo (Dystopia used to be my pfp +clout) and they've used Apartment 213 and Earth Crisis songs in edits (my username is an Earth Crisis song +clout). Keeshlife has been doing it for a long time too with Rudimentary Peni and X-Ray Spex songs. People are going to start imitating the pros soon enough. Eventually there's gonna be straight up crust punk and powerviolence songs in edits even from people who don't give a shit about punk.

I don't think this trend will totally take over skiing, but within a couple years there's gonna be a legit subgenre of skiing with punk and hardcore kids. It'll probably be the next big recognizable era of park skiing. So go trade your Harlaut pants for a homeless guy's jeans and some patches. Just remember EdensDemise was doing it before it was cool

What are your thought on this, am I just making it up based on a few isolated examples or will it become a major trend?

I called the fingerless gloves in another "what's next" thread, I'll call it again. Add chains and oversized buttons and very patchy clothing. I gotta patch up mine come to think of it...

I think you're onto something, more or less. I don't think this is gonna be a huge trend though. I think that skiing has diversified greatly since its earlier days to the point where a new trend can't be as ubiquitous as some older trends were. More punk music in edits will probably be well-received by people who might be tired of hearing the music from the same rappers in their insta edits (ie playboi carti, uzi). I like their music a lot but I'm getting tired of hearing and seeing a lot of the same type of stuff.

We already had a punk phase towards the tail end of the thug era (Max Hill, Jossi Wells skinny pants conversion, yoke collection). Skiing is in a weird place right now. Remember the awkward period between roughly 2014-2016 when we weren’t dressed in 5XL anymore but New Wave didn’t exist yet? We are in another one of those.

Honestly I think trends are just dead and everyone is gonna just keep diverging from one homogenous ski culture into a bunch of different niches. As long as people keep dropping full length movies and not 60 second Instagram park edits I’m completely fine with literally any direction the free ski com goes tbh but I think punk was already tried before so I don’t think it will be like the main hype train on the front page of NS lol

I already see new wave evolving into wide wave. Basically just new wave but everybody’s got stupidly wide pants

Just be on the lookout for the hottest edit of the year. It will have some weird quirk that will have all the kids asking their mom for their credit card so they can get one too.

Poles? Short

Tshirt? Tall

Pants? Adidas

Style? Wavy

i love zoot esque skiers because they listen to the same shit as me

very fucking tired of every edit being rap which is something i can barely stand

To elaborate:

Baggy gangster style isn’t dead, EZ, Harlaut, Noah, and mad riders still bump old rap and shred with hella steeze

Dubstep GoPro style isn’t dead I don’t really follow those people but I know candide and tjader are still doing all that looney tunes shit

Swerve is still alive the bunch have been dropping hella flicks

Raw creative style is like Newschoolers front page shit pretty much every day

The only thing that kinda died out was just disgustingly dangerous and gnarly tricks done by people who have no right doing them. Honestly this ones not even a trend that was just hoodcrew and it was literally the most enjoyable shit but now every movie looks like the boolers ball and it’s a little less special but I still appreciate the shitpost flicks nevertheless

Like, even though new styles continue to be discovered, not everyone just changes up. Wallisch isn’t wearing track pants doing no pole swerve butters but he’s still dropping edits. I welcome the grunge trend tho Jossi and Max Hill kinda touched on it and it never stuck but I’d be fine with it coming back, leather jackets are rad

It's sl-slv, milfy's set.

MH: cork 5, lick your tail. Then go into a double ass slap zero spin. Finally, blunt slide that down rail, really making sure your pivot goes into your anus

Bring on the punk phase! Ive got a few Levi jackets with the sleeves cut off and patches Ive sewn on, I will just have to add some chains and spikes. See you all on the hill!

Can we just go back to 1987 when it all made sense????? Motley Crew cranked and Old Style on ice,.......................

Hey guys long time member first time poster here.

Do people still ski park??? I think the next trend is to replace park runs with actual trails. I haven’t hit a rail in years
