The Minnesota Movie 2.0?

Pondering the idea of making a collaborative movie of the skiing scene in Minnesota for this season. It would be a lot of effort to get everyone around the state to be down for the cause and help produce this. Just wondering what the general interest level of this would be, and what filmers would be willing to help send their footage off for this. As for myself, I would be able to cover the Spirit Mtn skiing scene, Duluth Urban, as well as the Powder Ridge skiing scene.

Also a list of questions I have

-What should the format of the movie be? (ie. Segments of each resort)

-How long should the movie be?

-What would the editing process be for this?

-Who would be willing to send their shots for this project?

I'm sure I could come up with a lot more, but this is just a start.

Let me know if there is any interest in this idea, and if you would be down to help the cause.
 
I'd be happy to contribute the best of what I get from Minneapolis urban. Although, there's so many more people who do it that will also probably contribute, just have to contact them. Too Nice was amazing and I'd love to be a part of the sequel.

Agreed. I remember watching that when I first started skiing. It would be cool for the more current Minnesota ski generation to produce something similar. I don't have the biggest knowledge of contacts for skiing in Minnesota, so the more help, the better!

that's pretty much every place right now. Hyland had super up for opening day today, maybe first time ever? Hyland also pretty much has everything set except for a few rails in the big park and more snow to be pushed. I have a friend on park crew which is pretty nice, I get the inside scoop on their plans. Buck's jump line is huge and their park is completely open.
 
I could film people at Coffee Mill if I get a new camera or fix my old one. I could also do a few tricks maybe lol

Awesome, it would be cool to try and get people to cover each of the main resorts. I don't want it to be like go pro footy though hah.

IMO you can get some really nice shots with a gopro, you just have to be a good Filmer, but no, my camera isn't a gopro. With that said, my camera is broken lol
 
has anyone heard of the electric snail? because they ski at afton...i dont think they are on newschoolers but if some one or myself got a hold of them, they could help cover afton...they are at afton a lot...sooo yeaaah

User dirt. is the ski boarder, he does most (if not all) of the editing and such. He is up in Duluth this year for college but still get's down there often. I'll message him on facebook and see if he is interested.
 
I know two of the electric snail guys and could talk to them. I think this would be rad. Think a movie with short segments but showing a lot of places would be cool. MinnesotaJoe is a crazy good filmer and editor.

I go to school at UMN. We go to Afton most of the time but try to get around to some other places too. I'm hoping to get some urban over winter break so I may be able to help with that as well.

Word, I'll try to organize this a little more when I have a little more time. But basically just film as much as you can and then at the end of the season we'll take the best shots from each resort we have covered and put it into a short movie. Roughy 10 minutes or so is what I'm thinking.
 
I love having the regional section where we can have a whole bunch of local minnesotan skiers come together in the same place. Minnesota movie V. 2.0 seems to be coming together quite nicely so far. I cant wait to ski with some of you guys at different places this year!
 
I think that if we all try and work individually, but maybe had some bigger seshes here and there to discuss and film that would be sweet.

Good idea, and yeah Troll counts in my book for Minnesota as well. Over christmas break would be easiest for me to come out to different places and have the bigger seshes.
 
If any of you are thinking of coming out to Powder Ridge for the Master Shredder, I think it would be a good idea to get some film before and after the event for the segment in the movie. I'm also thinking that I'll film during the comp and could have that be a mini segment in the movie possibly.

Gotcha, I'm thinking that over my Christmas break from school (December 19-January18) I would be able to travel around the state and film at different resorts. It would be nice if we could organize dates over that time period to have larger sessions at different resorts.
 
The editing process for the movie is a long ways away, but I'm wondering who/how should we edit the movie. I want the movie to be a collaboration, and have everyones input in as many ways as possible. Just curious on what the general thoughts are on the editing process, music selection, flow of the edit, etc...

I have little experience with motion graphics and that kind of stuff. It would be cool to have something of the sort to add to the movie.

Let me know your thoughts
 
Keep it unique, keep it genuinely Minnesotan, maybe even only use songs by Minnesotan artists. Poliça is dope, I'm probably using one of their songs this year.
 
Would anyone want to plan a session sometime between December 19th-January18th? We could get a group of skiers that we want in the film and basically get shots the whole time. It would also be a good way to plan more specifics of the film and talk in person. I'm thinking it would be good to go some place like troll, elm creek, hyland, afton, or anywhere else that someone thinks would be good. Let me know your thoughts.

I'm also thinking that I will come down for the Tell a Friend Tour and could get some shots at Wild Mtn. and Troll that weekend.
 
Yeah man, that'd be the best time if not the only time to get everyone together for this. I'm down to go pretty much anywhere over break so I guess we'll just have to designate some days here and there and try to hit as many places as possible.

To organize this you might want to check out doodle.com as kinda a tentative schedule. People send them to me all the time to organize meetings here at school and they seem to work pretty well. Or create a facebook group or something maybe since it'd be easier to invite people using that. I don't know, Just throwing some ideas out there. I guess it depends on how many people are involved in this, which I don't know. This thread may be good enough.

Thanks that's a good idea. My thought is it would be easier to do something during the day on a weekday over christmas break, that way it would be less busy at whatever location we would chose. Any ideas on a place/places? We could also possibly hit some urban in the cities, if people know good locations, and snow is good.

I know of more spots in the cities than I know what to do with. There are plenty of people who know of spots that i don't know of though, such as the blue quad kink Casabon hit, been searching for that for awhile...

Seriously... I've gotten one rail done and it took about an hour to build the lip. Then the landing was a blend of sidewalk and ice which was fun to fall on. Sunday is saying 40% chance of rain/snow showers according to the weather channel which could either mean nothing or a ton of wet snow.
 
Always down for an urban mission! Unfortunately it looks like it could get into the 50s next week so the little snow we have might not be sticking around for too long. That said spring like laps over break would a be sick. I will be in colorado from the 26th-12ish but if anyone is in the TC area and going to hit anything, or film at a hill let me know!

I'm not seeing anything over 40 in this long range forecast, snow will definitely melt in the 30s though. Luckily that chance of a storm sunday-monday is getting higher. It's saying 1 inch for now, but that can always go up... or down. Make your sacrifices to ullr.

Things are coming together for the film. I've been in contact with quite a few people who are just as pumped about making this happen as me. I think the next thing we should do is plan a time to have a sesh sometime over the christmas break period. We should plan a tentative day that works for as many people as we can, as well as a resort. I know things could change based on weather, etc, but I think it would be good to start seeing what works for people.

I will be at afton this saturday, hopefully for the whole entire day. PM me if you are going tomorrow too, I will message you back unless something weird happens.
