The Mayrand Podcast

Hey everyone,

My name is Xavier Mayrand. I've been on NS for over 15 years. I've started out as a typical NSer skiing park in Québec, watching ski edits, checking out level 1 movies on repeat. In 2009 i started producing movies more ''seriously'' I produced & directed 4 movie from 2010 to 2013. Chase that feeling, Groundwork, Deja Vu and Our own way. I also worked on projects with Ski the east, salomon, dew tour, red bull and others before moving away from the ski scene. After being away for a few years, I'm back launching this podcast which is a big passion project for me right now.

I'm looking forward to putting out something that people on here will enjoy! My goal is to bring relax discussions with some of the biggest names in skiing and bring in my perspective as someone who is a ski fan but also worked ''inside the industry''.

I would really appreciate your feedback and support with this project. This isn't aimed at anyone precisely, but let's be honest NS people are the ones who will be enjoying these the most as i will not be explaining what a cork or a 4kink is in there.

In the first episode with Phil Casabon we discuss his two X games gold medals, his 2020 project ''Ensemble'' and his upcoming project ''The lost crystals"

The podcast is available on Spotify, Google podcasts, apple podcasts and youtube. If you have any questions, hit me up!

TLDR; episode 0 explains who i am; episode 1 is with bdog himself!

Hell yea! Great listen. Could be dope to do a video version too, even if you are doing them remotely ?

thanks! yeah that was something i was considering, with the option to show in certain clips or parts when we're discussing them... but figured it might be a lot for now. I guess i'll see down the road if people are interested in that format.

It was refreshing to hear someone who actually knows what’s going on in this niche in skiing rather than the “cool dad” commentary that comes from Mike Powell & his podcast. I know he’s been in the industry for a while & deserves that respect but he can keep to the TGR people & I’d be alright with that

Appreciate that, that's really what i'm trying to bring in.

How come episode 0 isn't on YouTube?

I listened to # 1 while getting ready to go skiing yesterday. And #2 will keep me entertained at work tomorrow.

Fun fact, i didn't put it on youtube as that one was ''personal'' (saying stuff about myself) and i felt uncomfortable putting on youtube versus podcast platforms because it felt too public for me. As if podcast platforms were less public. Anyways a lot of people have been asking so f* it i'll put it on youtube.

also can't wait to have your feedback on the first 2 episodes!

I don't use any of those podcast platforms so that's why I was wondering why 0 wasn't on YouTube. I look forward to it and future guests you have on.

I made it through #2 today and it was a struggle at times. It sounded like you were half asleep at various points and had trouble hearing you sometimes. Alexi was loud and clear though. Even though it had been a few days since listening to the first episode I don't remember any dislikes about it.

The content however, is great!!

Thanks, i think it might be the ''relax'' vibe i'm in while talking / that i'm trying to have on the podcast, but i totally get your point. Also english isn't my first language so there might be a fraction of a second of lag just to make sure i say what i want perfectly.

I'll put some focus on that for the next ones. appreciate the constructive feedback

Bumping after listening to BDog episode 2 - this pod is really great!

thanks for the bump! phil part 2 has some much great stuff he shared from his career

just dropped a new one with JF Houle!

Dare I say, best skiing podcast out. Jlev episode was top notch. Mayrand knows his stuff. Excited to listen to houle tn.

Been listening to all the episodes at work this week. I love skiing and never really got to hear the details like this from important people in the sport and industry so it's awesome, thanks for doing this man.

Stoked on the last three i've put out, let me know what you guys think. Phil is a dope up and comer (who already made x games finals). The ABM episode was right after xgames and is about this years event. The episode with Martini goes through everything he's done.

Bump this thread - while some of the conversation is a little goofy its the prefect pod for casual listening. LJ episode recently was fun

Yes the LJ one was good.

I continue to keep up with this series. You're getting better at it. Smoother in the interactions with each guest. Keep it up!

Curious, what do you mean by goofy? is it positive or negative? do you have examples ?

Neither good nor bad! Maybe a better word would be light - just an open end conversation that sometimes goes off on tangents. I’ll re-listen and see if I can cite specifics

i def see what you mean! it wasn't necessarily thought out to be light but i think in the moment thats how i try to be as we're talking about fun stuff or moments. if guests talk about more serious stuff like injuries i don't mind and will get into it but in general i try to keep it as light as possible.

and that's something i'm certainly trying to do! (talking about open end conversation). Sometimes it wont lead anywhere interesting, but other times guests will end up sharing some super dope knowledge or story that they wouldn't have told otherwise.
