catch 22 isn't so much of a saying as a concept. I think someone said that its a book which is true also (that's where it all started.) Catch 22 is having no way out of a situation. In the book, there's a pilot in WWII. Any sane person would want to stop flying missions because of the dangers. But if he was sane, he had to fly them - the military made him. If he was crazy then he wouldn't be aware of the dangers (or not care about them) and he would fly them anyway of his own choice.
