The "Hey quit it" Theory

Everyone has been in a situation where someone is doing something that annoys you, be it breathing loud or clipping their toenails on the carpet, this is life. So you might say "Hey quit it" or if you're from Australia "Oi mate" or even Texas "Get to stoppin'." In truth no saying is better than any other but it's funny how different we are.

Anyway, most people are rational and do things they think are ok or right. So when someone is clipping their toenails on the carpet they think it's ok to do, so if you ask them to stop they can't get mad at you or act like nothing is wrong. This is because of differences in expectations/norms which applies on both sides of the toenail clippings. Inversely, if someone know's what they're doing is disgusting or simply annoying, they should expect to be asked to stop, so they really can't get mad either. Note: I've been thinking about this because of recently being thrust into awkward dorm room living.

my "hey quit it" theory reply involves people that let their pets pee on/ chew on/ hump/ wreck my stuff and then laugh about it "haha, oh isn't he cute?!" ... "No he's friggen NOT, he's wrecking my stuff." I don't let my boxer eat your new Prada flip flops so don't let your dog pee on my rug.

actually they could get mad because theyre doing something thats normal to them and then somebody tells them that its not ok. if the person is respectable they could move somewhere else to clip their toenails or if theyre a dick then you have a confrontation.

I'm not rich and the only thing I spend money on are my sports. I was ranting because a 'friend of a friend' came over to my house and brought her little taco dog. While I was at the front door putting her prada flip flops in the closet so my dog wouldn't chew them she was letting her pink bowed little devil dog piss on my new rug... so my 'hey quit it' ended up almost throwing that "dog" out the window...
