Well it's been a fun 4 months of working 2 jobs so i can pay for all my ski stuff, but almost as important, my new video camera. I've only spent about 30 hours on hv20.com researching... and researching... and researching. I decided on the HV30 (suprise suprise) because it was the only camera i felt safe buying knowing i could research it to no end and have a whole forum dedicated to all my questions and comments on it. The money issue is basically a $1000 line. So without further adu, here's my list of ready to be ordered items:

-Canon HV30 refurbished - $480.00

So that's what i'm ordering right now, just lookin at the basics. I really want (and am on the list to get) a IRV focus ring for $50. Also need some suggestions on tapes, lights, and mics for my purposes. I've got Sony vegas pro 9 (torrent, sorry sony for stealing your money) and have got a computer that more than meets standards.

I'm just lookin for a little "Good to go" sign before i spend a shit ton of my money. Suggestions are welcome and I want some feedback!

+k for some basic help

I don't know anything about video cameras and stuff but my roommate and a ton of my friends have that Canon backpack and they love it. Good choice for such an inexpensive price.

Just you always have to be careful with your bags basically shouting to the world that you have camera equipment in them.

good choices. I would skip the car charger. I own a lot of gear, and shoot all the time, but I've never found the need for a car charger. One thing to keep in mind is that for editing you pretty much have to have an external hard drive. HDV footage takes up a lot of space (~13GB per hour I think...) Hope that helps. I have had an HV20 for several years now, and it's an awesome camera. Happy shooting.

thanks for the input. in fact i do have an external harddrive so i'm glad that's taken care of. The car charger just comes with the wall charger seeing as the refurb camera doesn't come witha charger in the first place so it's just a plus.

Thank You all, and i'm off to order!

You don't REALLYYYYY need the lens hood, but that's a decent setup to start out man. If you actually care about filming and such you'll be able to produce some beautiful shots with the HV30. Good luck.

That tripod also isn't the best, but unless you're willing to drop some more money it's the best in the price range.

ya, that's basically what i've gathered so far. My plan is to keep it for a year and hope it doesn't break. after all is said and done, i'm gonna drop a little more on a nicer one, but i just don't have a justified reason yet too.

Oh, and P.S. I definately just ordered it all... now i'm just shaking in anticpation for it to get here

I just bought an HV40 and I also need some accessories. I plan on buying the same battery and tripod as you and I got my tapes from tapestockonline.com. They're pretty cheap and have lots of choices. Just make sure you stick with one kind of tape, I use panasonics. Everything I've bought so far besides the camera is in the mail, the anticipation is killing me. Have fun shooting amazing quality videos!

I owned that bag. Hated it.

Do yourself a favor and get a Dakine Sequence or Reload. Way less suspicious than a camera company bag and it is waterproof, built better, etc.

two suggestions, get a cinibag for a backpack, i love mine and fits my xh and anything i could ever want(had 2 xh 2 tripods(straped to it), a wideangle, 4 batteries, lens hoods, a charger, filter sleeve. a 5 pack of tapes and still had room for a sammich and more if i needed it. It isnt the toaster that the dakine bags are either. Also Id go with sony premium tapes, they deffanatly get the job done and in a pinch, they sell them at wallmart so if you run out of tapes you dont have to wait for them to come in.

So i got my lens and (before mentioned) hood already. The rest comes tomorrow so i'm gettin way too stoked. here's some quick webcam pics to keep me at ease.
