The fate of mainstream Hip Hop

I don't think I'm alone in feeling this but i feel like mainstram rap and hip hop is dead. its full of gimmicky artists that lack any real talent. And the few artists that actually can spit can't sell records. II've given up on anything that is played on tv or the radio.

I agree with you. But Jayz is still putting some good stuff out. I do agree lil wayne and everyone he performs with are talent less.

The rap i grew up with like BIG, Tupac, Bone thugs are like gone. Its sad. I am forced to listen to the new garbage because my friend is a DJ. Theres some tight mash ups now like the BIG and Frank Sinatra one on Youtube

yeah Jay-Z is good but most other mainstream stuff sucks but at least theres plenty of good rap out there and if you liked Kid Cudi he is pretty good and mainstream as well

I forgot where I heard this, but the prophecy is that another Nas is coming, and he will either reinvigorate hip-hop, or prove its death by him not gaining any mass appeal.

First of all, Jay Z is a fuckin clown. Hope your not referring to his last 3 albums and everything he did on mixtapes in the last 2-5 years when you say hes still putting hot shit out. Lil Wayne is definetly a better spitter than this 40+ year old. I know that shit like Prom Queen really is shit but you ever listenned to tha carter 2 ? or anything he did during this period (2004-2007) thats pretty good. Plus , for those of you who want soome good undergroundish hip hop : Pacewon and Mr. Green - The only color that matters is green. I know this as already been talked about in another thread but if you dont know it , its a banger. There is also a mixtape named Notorious 2001 that is pretty tight: Biggie on Dre s beats. Here s the link!http://www.mixtapetorrent.com/filth-notorious-2001

Jay z is the only one keeping mainstream hip hop alive... but wu tangs new album sounds promising.

I can't say that Jay-Z is sstill a credible mc. He's sold out and the only reason why he sells records is because of his fame. DOA is possibly one of his worst tracks of all time. I think that the fate of commercialized hip hop resides on artists like wale, cudi, wiz kahlifa, curren$y and thophilus london. Its up to those guys to change the face of the game while being true to themselves. Because these days most artists aren't from the ghetto or are gang bangers and its up to the new artists to show that face of hip hop.
