MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Friday night marked an unfortunate end of the season for the Mound-Westonka boys hockey team.
Dion Koltes, the school’s activities director, needed to be escorted
from the section quarterfinal game by police officers after parents
started yelling at him for Mound-Westonka’s loss. (WCCO-TV captured
video of the incident, which can be viewed above.)
“You have no idea what you did to these kids,” one man yells at Koltes.
The anger stems from the Friday suspension of Mound-Westonka’s top six hockey players, students said.
The players were allegedly involved in the making of a “Harlem Shake” video in the school’s cafeteria.
Chris Tienter, a Mound-Westonka junior, said the players didn’t deserve to be suspended.
“They were just trying to re-create the ‘Harlem Shake’ video,”
Tienter said. “They were like standing on the table, and it really
wasn’t necessary for all the suspensions.”
“Harlem Shake” videos are a recent YouTube phenomenon. They typically show one person dancing alone, and then – when the music drops – a bunch of people suddenly appear, dancing wildly.
Mound-Westonka, the second seed team, lost 6-4 to Blake, the seventh seed team.
Koltes, the activities director, declined to talk about the incident Friday.
