The Ebon Movement

Hey guys!

The Ebon Movement is a community of young athletes, entrepreneurs and photographers dedicated to following their dreams and passions. It is a group of people coming together to help motivate each other to get what they want out of life.

We started back in 2013 when we were only 15 years old and since then we have continued to grow in influence and motivate young athletes locally and across the globe. We are looking for more people interested in joining this movement and helping support other like minded athletes and adventurers alike!

Thanks so much guys, if you have any questions let me know, I really want to build this around what you guys all want, this isn't our company at all, I am giving everyone an opportunity to be a part of it and create their own parts of the movement and really embrace it as their own!

Please check out our website to learn more and consider signing up if you align with our visions.

oh awesome now that you're 18 with three solid years of steady business experience i will gladly support your company!

surprisingly nice website. not bad looking clothing. not real original though. I'm not sure if I'd call printing tshirts and hoodies a movement.

you should also find some models who are not 15 year old boys.

Thanks for the input.

The "Movement" has nothing to do with the clothes, rather the people who are following the brand and have the same beliefs as us. We are soon creating forums and other features on the website to allow for more communication among members of the movement.

P.S That model was 19 and is a friend of the owners, we are currently in the process of getting photos with professional models for each of our products.

Thanks! We got so much hate in the beginning about being 15 year olds trying to start a company, but we ignored it and kept pushing through and have learned so much!

Obviously we still have so so so much to learn but we are definitely on the right track, especially with three years of real business experience going INTO college.

Thanks so much for the positive comments ! :)

This is hilarious. You are neither a "movement" nor a "company." You are a group of teenage friends. Why the need to try to pretend you're something more than that and print some dumb logo on a few standard pieces of clothing? Ladies, Ladies has more street cred than you guys.

Maybe you should learn a little bit more before providing such negative insight. We are in fact an officially registered company and have been for 3 years. We have our own printing workshop from which we create all of our shirts ourselves. We have sponsored athletes in Canada, USA, Sweden, Norway and Japan just to name a few.

But thank you, it is negative comments like this in the beginning that inspired us to grow to where we have today :)

Have a nice day.

Damn, do your parents have any more free money to give away? I have almost ten full years of experience working in the culinary industry and could really use an investor for a restaurant.

My parents have invested $0 into our company. In our first year of operation we entered a local business competition in which the best business plan won $2500, it was all sponsorship money too, so no one took any equity in our company.

We have been using that to grow an expand the company since.

But nice try.

I guess I left out the part where we won the $2500 hahaha

What kind of numbers are you doing?

Does the IRS know that you have been sponsoring athletes in other countries and are now an international business?

Im still very unclear on what your movement is?

Numbers are slim, but finally starting to go slightly positive. And we are currently in the process of getting all the paperwork done for international sales.

Essentially we are bringing together like-minded young athletes, entrepreneurs and photographers that are motivated to pursue their passions. I have seen so many people throughout my life who could have been a pro skiier, or gone somewhere in hockey and have just given up because of all the negative people telling them they can't do it.

There is too much negativity in the world and we are all about spreading the positive energy and trying to bring together everyone who feels the same as us.

I just spent a season in Whistler shredding and promoting the company, but at the end of April I am moving back home to work with my other business partner again. Our first priority is making a series of videos clarifying exactly what we stand for.

This. Also, define "sponsor." Giving someone a free t-shirt that you put a logo on does not make them "sponsored." Also, for those who do not know, anyone, anyone, can start their own company. All it takes is paying a fee, and BAM, you're Fuckwit Teen Boys, Inc.

I'm not sure what Ebonics is here trying to sell us, but it feels a bit like a cross between Jehovah's Witnesses and Free Hat. For reference:

Ummm i think your first priority should be to make the fucking business viable lol. And with the most general of all missions statements you have going on, that seems very, very unlikely.

sounds like you used the $2500 in contest winnings to finance the startup costs, and then spent the next three years dicking around, not making money, nor trying to. One helluva business plan you had- were the other competitors 8 year olds pitching lemonade stands? I mean seriously. Maybe this summer is the summer you actually give two shits about your business and "movement", I hope it is.

Also, in three years we haven't yet taken a withdrawl ourselves, every cent earned from the company has gone right back in.

Yup that is a lot of what happened. We were 15 at the time. but one thing I know for sure is we have plenty more business experience at our age than anyone else I know, and we are continuing to learn.

Show me any brand ever that was successful within 3 years of operation, nevermind one run by teenagers.

And no, most of them were app ideas.

While I do appreciate the effort you are putting into your replies, maybe you could find something more useful to do with your time?

Also, may I ask? What were you doing at 18 that was so much better than what we are trying to do?

Jesus christ you are young and dumb. You do realize there was a time before apps, right?

You may have more business experience than anyone else you know at this age. unfortunatley that is like saying, you have more sexual experience than anyone else you know at that age- youre still bad at it, and almost everyone catches up and evens out by the time it starts mattering.

I do appreciate the effort you are putting into your replies. It's clear you are a passionate and driven individual. Have you considered taking your talents to the next level? We here at Ebon Supply Company are always looking for new talent and new members to join our movement. With our guidance and sponsorship you could go on to win a Nobel Prize, or at least a Pulitzer. Get in touch with us and we will hook you up with a t-shirt and a pair of sunglasses asap.

No thanks, I'll pass.

my advice would be to stop with this "movement" bullshit. Invest in someone to create visually appealing designs (perhaps a few students from the local fashion design school), secure some capital from an investor and begin to market and advertise your product.

Its takes hard work, and you will have to make cold calls, convince store owners to sell your stuff on consignment, schmooze your way into events to give out free swag to "the popular people" etc. And you will constantly have to work at it- this will not be a part time gig if you want it to be succesful. Its a numbers game- you gotta sell everyone and everyone you possibly can on your products.

Or, continue doing what your doing- telling people you are starting a movement and own a cool new clothing brand and can hook them up.

To each his own. You can keep being negative on these forums while I go grow and learn with the community of positive people I have created. Hope it works out for ya.

Thanks for actually providing some decent insight. We are currently in talks with an investor right now who is very interested, I am meeting with him within the next few days.

We are currently stocked in two locations in our local town and have made a few road trips to others as well trying to get them in on it, however they said our margins were too high.

Our main focus over the last few months was production, so we can re-visit the stores and offer them better margins.

Thanks for the well wishes! Life's good for me right now- great career, was able to parlay a few years of hard work upfront into the job location of my choice with a flexible schedule and cool boss +coworkers. I live in a great place, have the toys i want for my hobbies, have a social life and love life that i am happy with. And the best part is, im excited for the coming chapters in my life.

Im sorry if you dont want advice or criticism. If all youre looking for is yes-men, then you better be a fucking once-in-a-generation savant. Criticism, failure, and advice are great learning tools. I hope you learn to use them, instead of ignore them.

You should listen because it is the opinion coming from EXACTLY your target customer base.

what have you learned from this thread so far that you can now apply to your business? you go first, and then i'll chime in with what i would take away if i was in your shoes.

See that is where you mis understand our entire goals. He is not our customer base at all, we are not trying to create the next biggest brand, we are just looking for like minded people.

And from posting on this forum I have learned

1) Don't listen to people that have very poor ratings on community websites (iFlip)

2) Controversy drives lots of web traffic

3) We need better designs

3) We need better designs

1) people dont take you seriously because your product and delivery are "played". In other words, the market is oversaturated with what you are selling. you need a way to stand out.

2) How much of this recent web traffic has resulted in sales? probably not much because people are going in with a very bad impression of the company.

3) your know-it-all, better-than-thou attitude is very offputting and directly contradicts your "movements" mission statement.

4) people are not interested in your products or designs. Do you know why? or have you just written them off as "haters"?

5) your approach here on NS is not working well. Maybe another approach to garner interest should be in order...

6) advertising your own forums on another company's directly competing forum is neither ethical, nor likely to cast your company in a favorable light. And it has shown in the responses.

as for you just looking for like minded people, not the next biggest brand- why? do you not think you could reach and influence the most people if you did create a huge brand? A group of like minded people is a club. An enterprise focused on making money is a business. So far you have a small club, and no way to claim a business. Both are possible, but money is necessary to achieve your vision.

This might be some of the best advice that has ever been given to a startup in the history of NS.

Dont take it lightly OP. Californiagrown is right.

do you own the trademark to The Ebon Movement? because I'm tempted to buy it and sell it back to you guys at an unreasonably high price

very well put.

you're too defensive OP. how are you going to make a product that people want if you get butthurt over every little criticism and try to defend it?

Companies don't usually argue on internet forums with other 13 year olds.

Put some cool designs on a shirt and maybe I'll buy one.

I don't want to wear your shitty logo around I can make one of those on my own.

This thread turned into an episode of Shark Tank like, immediately. What are your actuals? A provisional patent is not a patent! Your evaluation is a joke! Who are your investors? Well if Cuban is out, I'm out.
