faster treatment... not all Canadians can afford to come to America for treatment, a select few do come over though, not everyone...

you need to look at this problem from the perspective of the millions of people who can barely afford health insurance, or cant afford it at all...

sure having private healthcare works for the rich people who can afford it, but for everyone else it doesnt work...

making taking care of peoples lives into a business is not the way to go. private healthcare is always going to be about making the most money. despite what all the companies say, they dont give 2 shits about the people, they want to make the most money, and providing as little care as possible and trying to avoid paying for treatments at all costs is the best way to go in order to make a profit.

Saving lives is too important to put into the hands of a privately owned company... just like all the other essential services that taxes provide.

the best option would be a 2-tiered system like in the UK, where private healthcare is availiable for the people who can afford it, but a public system is free for everyone.
 
so when a guy's put in 30 hard years of work, having part of his paycheck go towards his company health care plan, he's got 10 years to go till retirement, and then all of a sudden he get's laid-of you think it's cool he loses his health care?

as we've discussed in the end it doesn't matter, either way the uninsured are still getting their health expenses paid by you, might as well have them use the money in the most efficient way possible

with preventative care

what are you talking about? its not like you have the option to get rid of medicare/caide all together, it's as it stands now, or the option to provide care for everyone

in the current model you pay for the uninsured medical expenses when it's an emergency. Emergency care is costly, especially when it leads to chronic conditions that continually rack up cost.

What this model results in is a majority of the poor/disadvantaged citizens, some who might be lazy, but a majority who're just as honest as you or I, all waiting to the last minute to seek medical care.

Serious issues like heart attack or diabetes are things that are easily preventable with early detection, and simple interventions, but if we are late to respond, say till after someone has a heart attack, the initial cost to patch them up is just the tip of the iceberg.

By default, in rejecting health care reform, you opt for this model. This model isn't working, it's not providing care and it is costing us more.

there was a psychological study conducted over several years that covered how people thought of themselves, something about a diamond. anyways, point is, the people who blindly thought they could get whatever they wanted did and those who thought their outcome would be weighed by their knowledge, in other words, somewhat doubted themselves, barely ever passed the tests everyone underwent.
 
How could you forget that? A quick scan of his pics pretty much sums it up for you. He literally lives in a bubble, granted, an ornately luxurious bubble. You can't honestly expect someone that rich (coupled with the fact that he himself had no part in acquiring the wealth) to have anything even approaching a normal/balanced/valid perspective.

The very idea of having to worry about finances, let alone basic needs like healthcare, are literally abstract concepts to him.

they may not be the BEST but they are pretty damn close sometimes... like my skis, my dog (does that count as a "thing"?), my parents, and my gf.... oh and my truck... but i guess honestly out of those 5 things only two are really things and not people...
 
and is it really the skis? cuz i know for me i wouldnt give a shit about the skis i was on, just skiing.
 
being a baker guy... to get the good stuff, powder, the steeps... you need the skis... i mean, when i raced i tried going down big old waist deep powder runs on my Dynastar Skiercross or Atomic Beta 9s and i would just sink like a fucking piece of lead in water..... the skiing is good but in order for me to truly ski what i want the way i want i need fatty skis.

surely you can make do on some shitty skis... people managed to shred without rockered 120 underfoot twin tips for a long time...

what i was trying to say was "things" may not be the most important things to worry about but they come in a close second. and for me they come behind my dog, parents, and my gf.... i really dont have many friends to be honest..

You know what depresses me? The fact that no one will ever agree. Not even going that far, virtually everyone refuses to listen to opposing arguments purely because they are ignorant. For this reason, nothing will EVER be accomplished because there will always be someone trying to discredit and humiliate you.
 
do you realize what would happen if everybody agreed on everything? Terrible things, when there is no opposing voice nothing is questioned, like say, an enormous spending bill. I live in MA where the house is dominated by dems and a dem governor. Everyone agrees on everything and the state suffers because of it. Quit being so idealistic, the world doesn't work that way.
