It is absolutely disgusting observing everything that is happening to this once great country. Obama and his socialist cronies devising a trillion dollar budget that we can only hope to recover from in several decades time.

Iowa approving gay marriage by the COURTS, and not by the peoples vote. Just goes to show that the PEOPLE know that homosexuality is not a legitimate institution that will be recognized by this country. Sickening.

Several proposals across states for the legalization of marijuana. I know people on here are into smoking, and some of my friends are, and I completely disagree with it but i can't change your mind. However, this shouldn't be imposed upon the people as a will. It is a choice, and if you want to smoke, then congrats, but do it on your own time, don't force it on everyone around here.

legalization isnt forcing it on anyone, it's just making a plant legal to possess, that is now illegal, noone is being forced to do anything

The cry of "SOCIALIST!!" seems so weak when you consider how the US compares to other modern countries though. Universal healthcare is a near standard in those places.

And seriously, if we're going to be anti-socialist, fuck public schools, public libraries, public hospitals and public restrooms.

yup, different thread. i honestly dont care how we compare to other countries. we are america and we dont need to be like europe... and obviously, when someone is talking about hating socialism, a little socialism with roads, libraries and schools is good. However, our public school system is shit and although it would be stupid to take it out, its something to think about whether or not it would work if it was private...just something to think about...(i have some decent info on some of the first public schools in the US. Ill have to dig up my notes. Kids were talk protestant beliefs and catholics got really upset. They were also taught Patriotism and I cant remember the rest).

Sounds like you should watch an excellent documentary called "The Business behind Getting High" if that is what you think legalization is about. And try reading/watching some real news someday, not just what is on Fox "News". You seem like a very angry person whi is very mis-informed about politics today. Poeple like you are most of the problem in our country today. Find out some facts before you make a claim about something.

i mean, the term socialist does not apply to Obama. he has socialist ideas, but he is by no means a socialist. Canada isn't even socialist. An example of socialism working would be Sweden, or any of the Scandi countires.

obama is in no way a socialist, this thread is stupid. i love how people blame him for us being in a recession, give the guy some time for christ sakes. he walked right into it, its not his fault. i think any president needs at least a year or two to be judged on how he is performing, because he cant control the nation when he walks into office. and im sorry youre homophobic, get the fuck over it, times are changing.
 
are you kidding me, have you seen what the hell is happening to Sweden right now? People leaving in droves, zero jobs, economy in ashes. The country is on the verge of collapse. great example, their social welfare program is in shambles.

They also have a horrendous time with crime. Schools and other buildings are burnt down, and theft, violence, and rape are on the rise. Interpol reports that Sweden has the highest violent crime rate in europe.There is no option for talented young Swedes, so they leave the country en mass to look for employment in other countries. some country.

But the topic of sweden is a digression from the main point; what do you want of America?

In regards to socialized medicine;

It must be realized we've had a model of socialized medicine in this country since the 1960's when medicare/medicaid programs were started by LBJ. The argument for providing insurance for all American's is actually a means to reduce overall medical spending.

Currently if you don't have insurance there are two relevant points to consider;

i. you're less likely to seek preventative care (meaning you wait for your problems to compound, resulting in a need for more expensive treatments)

ii. when you do need to see a doctor, the government pays for you anyways

Therefore putting everyone under some form of insurance means more preventative (cheaper) care without putting any more burden on the system.

the government and this board they are going to setup is pretty much going to get to play god, choose who lives and who dies.

example - 70 year old man needs trip bi-pass surgery or he is going to die. take it to the board they vote (this will take a while he might be dead by then) they vote no because he is to old, he dies. how is that fair? they will vote no, christ the united states model for this is canada and there are people in canada protesting against the united states changing to this because they will have no place to come and get treated... it doesnt work in canada.

i know everyone is saying "not in this thread" and such, but whatever, it hasn't been deleted so it must be worth keeping.

you're right, it doesn't work here. i had to wait 6 hours to get checked for a blood clot, and if they had made me wait 2 hours longer it would have reached my heart and fucking killed me. meanwhile, the little kid with the broken arm is getting his treatment quicker than me because he won't stop crying. it's bullshit, and the cost you're paying for private healthcare might at least be worth it, over being told your life is less important than somebody's broken arm.

 
dude stfu i know people with next to nothing that have a job and pay 34 dollars a month for healthcare.
