The do's and don'ts of goggle cleaning?

I've worn my Flight Deck XM's one time and they have a few tiny spots on the outside that the microfiber bag won't get off. I've done some extensive reading....sounds like I can rinse the outside and inside of the goggle and let them air dry then wipe them w/ microfiber? Also sounds like I could put them over a vent and let them dry that way?

What say you, NS? I just want some good first-hand evidence.

all (? all that i've had) Oaks have an anti-fog coating on the inside that you don't want to wipe-- it fucks up the inside side of the lens.

the outside you can wet and wipe yeah; people get snow/water on the outside lens and wipe it off all the time of course

so when the inside starts to get spots how do you clean that?

As far as i’m aware, you can only do any maintenance of the inside lens with really soft, careful blotting/dabbing when it’s dry. Don’t wipe and def don’t fuck with it when it’s wet. You can maybe remove stuff carefully when it’s dry but yeah as far as I know you really can’t do much which is super annoying and not really that intuitive

Hopefully someone swings by and lets us know about a way to do it...maybe even clean the whole inside well and then apply a new anti-fog coating..? But I’ve never known of that working too well

Nice thanks for the input! Yeah it's weird...$150+ goggles and I feel like I have to use white latex gloves any time I touch them (any goggles, really). So it sounds like I can gently rinse and dry the exterior lens, but the interior one is more delicate. Could I rinse the inside and let it dry over a vent or something?

yeah man, frustrating, right?

like i said, i would love for someone to tell me i'm wrong and there's a good way but ive never heard it. i feel like it's possible to go ahead and clean the inside and then apply a new anti-fog, but i've never been willing to risk it to find out

about your last question, i *think* that'd be fine. water/snow gets on the inside of goggles sometimes obviously, and oakley tells you to try to let it dry by itself in that case, with maybe a little bit of careful blotting (NOT wiping) with a microfiber cloth, so i think that should be okay for you to do that. if i can find a pair of my old goggles i might give it a shot. meanwhile on my current pair yeah ive just left the inside entirely alone and they still work super well fog-wise but are getting a little dirty on the inside. def frustrating

Very frustrating. Thanks again for the input. I will basically just be gentle as hell, with nothing but air/vent drying if I decide to clean the inside.

very welcome dude. if i find my old ones i'll wipe the hell out of the inside and then see if applying another anti-fog (cat crap?) works, just to find out

Sounds good - would love to hear how it goes.
