The Chronics and the Pipe Cleaners seem to be the same...

I was looking at both of these skis to buy, and i cant see any major differences other then the graphics. They both seem to have about the same weight. specs are a little bit different, but i dont think a few mm is going to make a huge difference. They both seem to be stiffer skis, they both come in the same size i am looking for (176). If any one could point a difference in them that i forgot, please tell me! It could affect my decision on which ski i am looking to buy. I am leaning towards the pipe cleaners, but it could definitley go either way. and im looking at the 08/09 models. Thanks for the help.

pipe cleaners have better bases (race base) they take wax better, and unless you are doing 110% rails, the bases on the pipe cleaners will be just as good to you as the chrons

wow, no. Mount is different and more adjustable on PCs(Chrons suck mounted forward at all, and were built around a -6 mount..PCs work anywhere from -6ish to -1 well). PCs are similar flex underfoot but with medium-soft tips and tails, PCs measure 184-185 in a "181" where Chrons are truely 181s if I remember right. PCs may be a bit lighter, can't remember. Chrons might have a more even flex IF mounted at reco.(PCs have a more obvious hinge point I would say). Both are good, just different. I would say=durability, Chron bases do scratch a lot, and do not hold wax quite as well as PC bases, and don't hold P-Tex. PC bases hold up at least as well on rails as Chrons and are a bit faster. If you are skiing more all-mtn, go Chrons mounted -6(or -4.5 at most forward), and in park it is again preferance, and most people's opinion is PCs are a bit better. Chronics will feel stiffer and never wheely out, PCs may turn quicker.. lots to think about. Hope it helps.

You have never ridden chronics mounted at center have you? They are the sickest skis I have ever skied on. I have the 08 in a 181, mounted center and I would never mount anywhere near recommended. To the OP, the chronic has less sidecut, is stffer, and is probably less expensive if that matters. I have ever ridden Pipe Cleaners so I cannot say anything about them.

well considering I owned them mounted center all this season till the last day when one broke, yes, I have ridden them. Now the question is have YOU ever skied them anywhere back from center(I have)? They actually carve right. Yes, they work center like every ski works center, but Line builds skis around the desired mount, and that is why all Lines skis only have one mount labeled. The flex is off and the sidecut is too(on these the flex is more important). They do break in a bit around your mount though I will admit that.. I would say the best mount after riding it for around 10 days would be -3

how much do you weigh? do you like stiff or soft skis? what skis have you tried before that you like/dislike? everyone has a different definition of all-mountain. not trying to be a dick, but these questions will help us help you

i had my chronics mounted +2 from dead center and thought they were amazing...
the pc's have the race base that makes it a lot faster but i dont think it stands up to abuse very well. the chronics have a harder more durable base. i dont think the pc's edges are as beefy as on the chronics either. i would say that the pc leans a little more towards jumping and the chronics a little more rail friendly.

I drew a line on mine that was a little more than +1 but the shop said they could not mount there because it was forward of center and they said that I would not want it there. I did not argue, because I would not have drawn the line there if I did not want them mounted there so I went center. I really want to try a forward mount sometime. Do you have any advice on not letting the shop guys talk you out of it?

pretty sure the base is hardened p-tex now, instead of an actual race soft p-tex. Slightly slower when hardened and doesn't hold wax as well but it should be worth it. Repairs will still be a dream compared to sintered bases and similar(like most line skis, AR6s I think, etc..). First year or two I am pretty sure weren't hardened

duude, i just want to know the differences between them. I think im probably going to go with the chronics. Because i want a stiffer, lighter ski for jumps. and the pipe cleaner doesnt seem to be THAT stiff. Even though they are stiffer. And my definition of all mountain is a ski that holds an edge on groomers. and dont spin-out. so stiffer skis.

I would go for the Pipe Cleaners they are better quality, reasonably stiff, I thought they were a better all mountain ski than the chronics when I tried them both, and you said you wanted them mainly for jumps so you don't need to consider the base durability. BUT the Chronics are way cheaper...

No. Sintered bases are good, extruded are bad. AR6s do not have sintered bases and neither do any of the LINE park skis.

And the whole PCs sucked on rails the first year thing is bullshit. I've got the OG Pipecleaners and they edges are going to fall out before anything happens to the base.

Get PCs if you can afford it. Hands down the better quality ski, plus they are amazing for anything and everything you use them for.. mounted at -2.5 they're incredible.

I didn't mean they sucked on rails, I just meant they changed it. Any race base does fine on rails, yet most people on here do not understand that. And whatever line bases are, they are terrible to wax and repair.

I agree, go with PCs, and you were saying you didn't want a soft ski, PCs are not soft. They are stiff the majority of the ski and soften up in the tips and tails. If you get a chance to flex them, look at were the ski actually flex's.

Yeah I wasn't hating man, you contribute some good stuff. I was just calling you out on the sintered base thing. The rest was all good :)

And def flex them and check out how they flex. They don't flex underfoot but they do flex quite nicely in the very tip and tail.
