The Chairlift Game

I don't know if it is human nature or maybe I am just a dick but generally when I am on the mountain with my mates we often subconsciously play a game called the "The Chairlift Game". It doesn't need to be in the park it can be on any feature and moguls are actually my favorite but generally speaking you just ski directly under the chairlift solely for the short lived glamor of having a slew of gapers oogle at you. I do not consider myself to be a vain person but am I alone here or are other people more likely to casually 360 butter on a red run if you happen to see a 6 seater chairlift of people staring at you?

 
I stopped doing this after tried to air under the lift and bonk a pillow on a tree but my ski got caught in the branch and i crashed. The whole chairlift was like " maybe next time buddy..." and cracking up
 
when i was younger, i was the gaper staring down from the lift and seeing cool shit is what made me want to progress.

But i can relate. Skiing under the chair makes me want to throw hard tricks, unless i'm sliding a rail then i pussy out.
 
It's fun until you eat shit and people laugh. Sure you can just not eat shit and be cool, but it will happen eventually. This is why filming yourself doing cool stuff is much more fun.
 
Agreed if you bottle it when you are showing off you end up looking like such a tit but this rarely discourages me.

But yeah under Chair 4 at Vail there's this nice line of cliffs that are fun to drop and you always get some cheers from the lift. Or the best is when the gapers say, "you're gonna kill yourself if you go that way" or something to that effect.
 
yeah i always get nervous at my mountian becaus eone of our park runs is under a lift and i rode alone most of the time..so intimidating
 
i always use the chairlift crowd to push myself. springtime shenanigans are always more fun with a crowd as well.

 
i tried doing this a panorama once and ate shit and landed in a very awkward position, it took me like 10mins to get out of from under the chairlift
 
I ski under Storm Peak Lift here in the Boat so much, I have take unofficial possession of the trail name.
 
i stopped trying to impress the ppl on the chairlift only cuz i was on a mogul trail and i threw a 360 off of one and there was someone i knew on the chairlift who called my name, bad thing i did was look up halfway through the rotation and i ate shit soo....
 
i love how some of the most badass powder runs in vail are right underneath the chairlifts. i do this all the time
 
Yah, doesn'nt bother me all that much. It's kinda fun but not when trying a new trick. Our lift at my home mountain can see the 2 biggest jumps in the line so it can get pretty emberassing if you wipe.
 
the best is standing ontop of a gnarly line from the lift and having old women being like "omg do you know thats a cliff" stop!! ahh and u just pretend like you dont know and ski off but actually stomp that 15 foot double drop and ride away like a boss
 
I like being the ones on the trail and dropping snow on people....i know dick movie

OR you callout gapers on slower trail and tell them they dropped their pocket..prettyfunny if you can get one to fall
 
There's a great spot at Wolf Creek for this, if you're good at moguls that is..

It's called Alberta Face and it's directly to the left of the lift.
 
yeah i do the same haha

it kinda happened to me that i would get laguhed at by gapers, but they're mostly 12 year olds, so i just wait a couple of mins for them to get down and either bump into them when they ride and make them fall, or just spray them like shit (funny with heavy-chunky spring snow)
 
your analogy (correct term?) is winning

i always do stupid flat ground tricks like butters and taps under the trail down to the park which is under a lift and for some reason people seem to only notice when i eat shit
 
i was trying to play once for my illinois fans on the lift, tryed a 360 over a row boat, got 270 stabbed myself with a pole and the face planted..... they liked it!
 
The best is utterly destroying the Gad Chutes under Gadzoom at Snowbird because that chair is always packed with gorbs
 
At my mountain on any powder day i always ski under the chair its always fun to show off until you eat shit
