The Cabin in the Woods - A Must-See Film

Don't agree with it being the best, but it'll definitely fuck your head over. The plot is nothing like an average horror film where you'd expect zombies to be after 5 kids.

"...then kill yourself!"

I'm not really into movies so if I see something that looks good, I see it, If it looks like shit, I don't see it.

It may be the fact that I was quite intoxicated while watching this movie, but I didn't enjoy it that much.

My issues:

I felt the office folk were cast wrong.

I thought the phonecall was stupidly cheesy and unneeded

I think the escape attempt could have been a bit more interesting/played up more

There is no way the people were that functional after being attacked by that incredibly painful looking weapon. I mean, the dude should have been in tears and bloody as fuck, but he acted so easy about it all

I wish they had portrayed the pothead as a smart one rather than stupid.. would have believed the second half more.

The elevator thing could have been massively creepier

wish there had been silent hill status scary monsters...

Sigorny Weaver didn't do it for me... I just kept thinking about how i wished i was watching aliens

Wish the movie had been directed by someone more like guillermo del toro.. I feel the "scary" would have been a lot more scary.

Liked the plot, liked the funny parts.. just found too much i wish had been done differently.

But... I'd still recommend it on the basis of just being pretty cool.

Eh not really, I haven't seen very much and I didn't get a whole lot out of her post in terms of spoiling the movie. She stays fairly vague. Although now I am interested..

Nothing in that that wasn't in the previews for the movie... outside of "the phonecall" but thats in the first 5 minutes and has nothing to do with what actually happens, so I'd hardly call it a spoiler.

OMG monsters in a horror movie! Yeah, no spoilers... except if you don't know sigorney weaver is in it.. that could be a spoiler. Cause she is.. but you learn that in the first 2 minutes when the list the cast. So again, not really a spoiler.

Granted, you did stay pretty vague, but this is the kind of film you should walk into without any previous knowledge, well, knowledge about nothing less than a bunch of tropes and clichés.

watched this last night. finished better than i expected. got good around the time of the 'celebration'. fucking unicorns!

I think that a lot of the mixed reaction people have to this movie are a complete misunderstanding of the point.

Yeah, it's sort of supposed to be a "scary movie", but that's not really the point. The point is to use the standard scary movie tropes to create a metaphor for human sacrifice in modern American society - well, globally too (see how the Japanese one mimics the Ring or the Grudge), but we're mainly focused on the American one. The experience of watching a horror movie has become about as much violence and gore as possible that runs through a very specific set of tropes by which we celebrate the death of young people as entertainment. At this point you cheer for the villain in a lot of these movies. Cabin In the Woods is sort of blowing that up into a comment about how American culture has blown up that spectator sport into everything in popculture (i.e. look at how young starlets are destroyed by fame). The hidden cameras and heavily controlled environment (see drugs being used to increase sex drive) are a pretty obvious jab at reality TV and how "unreal" and artificial the situations and personalities are in that genre.

It's a "horror" movie only in so far as it needs to be a "horror" movie to achieve its point. And it's sarcastic and ironic because that's just Whedon's writing style.

I am not a horror movie fan. Seen my fair share but never been super into the genre.

That being said, this movie is fucking awesome! I watched it at my friend's house last weekend not knowing anything about it, never haven seen a trailer, and I thought it was brilliant. Good mix of humor, horror, action, and
some boobs.

Also, I really enjoy that analogy above by J.D.

Seeing Cabin in the Woods instead of 21 Jump Street was possibly the best decision of my life. I have no idea how to explain this movie, but it was hilarious.

I love you

was gonna give it to my girlfriend, but its yours if you will still have me after everything we've been through

100% disagree.

Cabin in the Woods was one of the most enjoyable movies I've seen in a while. JDs analysis was pretty on point. Anyone who thinks its supposed to be a horror flick is a halftard. I loved that it didn't take itself too seriously, and played on what we expect out of movies.

I really enjoyed this film. I downloaded it without knowing anything about it other than it got into the top 10 in the us rentals on imdb. I can understand why it ccompletely splits the audience its definitely a love/hate film but dont let other people opinions put you off as you dont know you could end up really liking it and if the worst comes to it you spent $10 (unless you just dl it for free) and lost an hour and a half of your life, no worse than if you get sidetracked on youtube or whatever. I can only reccomend not watching the trailer & taking a little leap of faith, as its very hard to visually sell this movie to people without giving away what it is about or putting people off it as they think its just another run of the mill horror.

my opinion. it was terrible. typical low budget horror movie. needed better slutty scenes. blonde needed bigger tits. terrible acting. even worse cgi. the plot sucked. the blonde needed bigger tits. casting for the "office fags" really sucked. the gods of the earth are guna rule the world. really???? those two pussies in the end were too chicken shit to kill the other so they have to let someone else do it plus they fucked everyone else over. assholes. but the wolf scene was pretty nice. but it took me three rewinds to cum.

I went with a big group of people, half of us were high af and the other half was completely sober...My high buddies and I thought it was awesome but the sober ones didn't enjoy it at all. So my conclusion is go high, because then everything makes sense and it seemed epic. I loved it but hey that could've just been the weed.

the fact that half of the people in this thread even call it a "horror," when it's obviously a comedic sci-fi spoof of the genre, is hilarious. "hurr durr it wasn't scary" well no shit.
