What do you think is the best sports city? In the US? In north america? In the world? Take your pick.

criteria is whatever you want. Championships, fans, history, etc etc.

I'll start with Boston.

Patriots/Red Sox/Celtics have all won championships in the last decade, Bruins are currently in the finals, and aside from the Bruins/a few odd seasons for the rest, each is always in the playoffs.

Fans, love em or hate em, but Boston fans are literally everywhere.

As for history...red sox, celtics, and bruins are 3 of the most historic teams in each of their respective sports.

Im gonna say vancouver for action sports. Lots of skateparks, grouse mountain, whistler is pretty close, so many places to hit urban and a lot of mountain biking. Pretty much any city you go to you can play mainstream sports (hockey, basketball, baseball ect.) so I don't really think there is a "best" city for those types of sports.

true, and i like that angle, but you can compare something like say, seeing a hockey game in tampa bay vs seeing one in vancouver.

see what i mean? Just because it's present doesn't make it the same, or nearly as good.

Honestly, yes hands down Boston has the best professional sports teams.Im gonna have to say that Chicago comes in second place.
Bulls went to Eastern Conference Finals this season.Blackhawks made it to the playoffs, even tho they got knocked out in the first round. And were the champs last season. The Bears i beleive won the NFC North division and were one win away from making it to the super bowl. And in 07 and 08 the cubs had two consecutive division titles.

Boston. I feel spoiled to be a sports fan in Boston and i'm on the verge of seeing a championship in every major sport in my short 19 years of living. who else can say that? In Boston, sports are everything. Boston is fueled by sports. Boston revolves around sports. Without sports, Boston is nothing.

There's so much to say about history, I don't know where to begin.

New York City

Yankees- most dominant major league team in history with the exception of the new zealand rugby team
Knicks- a couplw of titles-
Giants- Football and Baseball
Mets- every once in a while
Rangers and Islanders
Jets

plus most professional sports wouldnt be the same without NYC

SEATTLE!!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't say that the teams themselves make a sports city. It's easy to be a fan when your team always wins. It's like being born rich and never having to work to be comfortable. It's just not the same.

I'm gonna go with Cleveland. No championship since 1964, countless heartbreaks, Browns moving cities, Lebron leaving, etc etc. Yet they still sell out every Browns game despite 10 years of irrelevancy. Cavs games were some of the best selling games in the NBA this season even thought they won

Kinda out there but London? Chelsea, Arsenal, Fulham, West Ham, Tottenham, QPR, Crystal Palace, as well as 33 other soccer clubs in lower leagues. Only one sport, but pretty impressive.

i was actually thinking that too.

But the london teams (except for arsenal in the late 90s/early 2000s) have never totally dominated the country, and none has ever won a european title. That takes away quite a bit in my opinion, despite being an Arsenal supporter myself...

Especially when you compare london to say, manchester or liverpool. Manchester has 2 trophy winning teams this season (fuck them!) and liverpool has simply won everything, though they currently are mediocre.

I gotta go with my hometown of detroit. We haven't won a ton of titles (besides the wings) but we still have some of sports greatest franchises.

The tigers, lions and wings along with the pistons have been around 50+ years. The lions have some of the most loyal fans I think. Their records have not been very impressive but they still pack their stadium every sunday there is a home game.

The wings are undoublty and arguably one of the best hockey franchises ever. The most cup wins along with some of hockeys greatest players on their rosters in the previous records.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!

24 years of dedication and only one UW football national title in 1991.... I was like 4 I barely remember. Mid 90's Sonics, 95-01 Mariners and the Seahawks in 2005. All a tease.

the only relevant team NYC has right now is the Yankees...and they will always be at the top of baseball but the rest...your argument is invalid.

well no, but liverpool has won it 18 times in the past, dominated for multiple decades at a time, and won multiple european titles. So that ranks them right up there...and everton hasn't been half bad throughout history.

True, us Lions fans ALWAYS have faith in the next season, we always think this year will be our best since Sanders. But seriously, this year we will run shit, Suh and Failey, Holy fucking defensive line! and VandenBosh behinde them? I would cry if i was on offense facing them. And if Matthew Staford can stay healthy along with Calvin Johnson and Jahvid Best..holy shit thats an amazing roster right there.
The Lions are in arguably the most competative division in all of the NFL with the returning super bowl champs and the bears who were a win away from the super bowl, and the vikings who were a win away from the super not last season, but the season before. But im calling it, Lions taking the NFC North and hopefully a superbowl apperance.
And yeah the Tigers are fucking amazing, Verlander is on fire this season, and the Pistons went to the Eastern Conference Finals for 6 straight seasons from 02-08..thats unheard of.

Totally agree. Stafford needs to get stronger this season so he doesn't get hurt early season and late season like he did last year. The draft looked promising. We got some good players out of it. A WR and another defensive back all in the top 5 rounds.

separated shoulders never really get better. i don't really know what degree separation his is, but your shoulder is never the same. it's like a dislocation, once you do it once you're so much more prone to doing it often. every time he lands on it in a fucked up way it's going to hurt real bad. he better have bulked up that shoulder on the off-season or he's in a world of hurt.

Yeah definetly, adding Titus Young into the mix, if the Lions dont have a winning record this season..i honestly dont know what, but it will be rediculous. Stafford now has two amazing targets to throw to that will pretty much catch any reasonable throw you put in their direction, Titus Young was like that at Boise State, and im assuming he will make the transition to the NFL with ease.

and in that decade, man utd has won 5 league titles, while Arsenal and Chelsea combined have won 5 total.

I hate to say it, but there's really no comparison. Man utd won 16 trophies in 10 years. Chelsea's won 18 trophies in their entire 106 year history.

probably have to agree with boston, though most of the boston fans i encounter (all outside of boston) are annoying as fuck. but i guess since this is becoming more of a claim for your region type thread i'll say...YAY AREA!!!

golden state nba champs 75

oakland a's world series champs 72, 73, 74, 89

oakland raiders super bowl champs 76, 80 83

san francisco 49ers sb champs 81, 84, 88, 89

san francisco giants world series champs 2010 (jea!)

san jose sharks...working on it

yeah, i guess i was a bit late for the party, looks like it was bumpin around here in the 80's. and the kings were sick for the while, plus cal and stanford who are both beast at sports.

dude i may be a Portland guy.... but fuck that 05-06 super bowl. fucking weakfucking rigged....that call against Hasselback. for hit below the knees.. bullshit. after that Offence Holding call... i get mad thinking about. it. fuck the steelers and fuck that shithole city of Pittsburgh

hey do not forget The Super Sonics(rip) won the champion ship in 79

and for you hockey buffs out there.. the Seattle Metropolitans were the first USA team to win Lord Stanly's cup!

and as a blazer fan i miss going up to sonics games... so much.. great fans up there. a good love hate thing.

oh and the mariners... fuck...... in 95 when they got beat by the Yankees in the pennet series i went to visit my aunt in cape cod.. and she had bought me a fucking Wade Boggs yankee Jersey... i cried.. i fucking cried.

so but for basketball.
PORTLAND!!!!!

It was said before but Cleveland is mad crazy about there shitty sports teams. Pittsburgh though might have the best actually good teams mixed with great fan base.

In terms college towns I may be supper biased, but Columbus is insane about OSU football (I mean if Megan Fox was a Michigan fan it would be a deal breaker). But, a lot of Big Ten towns are the same because of lack of pro teams in there town and the tradition of the Big Ten.

Yep, and London Wasps and Irish are good - rugby.

Also, they probably have a strong county cricket team(s)

Nothing beats being in twickenham with a full house of 80 000 watching a test match.

In the world?

Right here in my home city Melbourne!

According to Wikipedia:

The state of Victoria, Australia, is known for its sporting culture. The Victorian capital, Melbourne is often referred to as the sporting capital of the world.[1]

The most popular sports to play in the state are Basketball, soccer, Australian rules football, Cricket and netball whilst horse racing joins that list as the most popular spectator sports.

Melbourne is a notable sporting location as the host city for the 1956 Summer Olympics games (the first Olympic Games ever held in the southern hemisphere), along with the 2006 Commonwealth Games. The city is home to three major annual international sporting events: the Australian Open (one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments), the Melbourne Cup (horse racing), and the Australian Grand Prix (Formula One).

In recent years, the city has claimed the SportsBusiness title "World's Ultimate Sports City".[135]

The city is home to the National Sports Museum,

which until 2003 was located outside the members pavilion at the

Melbourne Cricket Ground and reopened in 2008 in the Olympic Stand.[136]

Australian rules football and cricket

are the most popular sports in Melbourne and also the spiritual home of

these two sports in Australia and both are mostly played in the same

stadia in the city and its suburbs. The first ever official cricket

Test match was played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in March 1877 and the Melbourne Cricket Ground is the largest cricket ground in the world[citation needed]. The first Australian rules football matches were played in Melbourne in 1859 and the Australian Football League is headquartered at Docklands Stadium.

Nine of its teams are based in the Melbourne metropolitan area and the

five Melbourne AFL matches per week attract an average 40,000 people

per game.[137] Additionally, the city annually hosts the AFL Grand Final.

The city is also home to several professional franchises in national competitions including Football (Soccer) clubs Melbourne Victory and Melbourne Heart who play in the A-league competition, the rugby league club Melbourne Storm[138] who play in the NRL competition, the rugby union club Melbourne Rebels who play in the Super Rugby competition, the netball club Melbourne Vixens who play in the trans-Tasman trophy ANZ Championship, and the basketball club Melbourne Tigers who play in the NBL competition and the Bulleen Boomers and Dandenong Rangers who play in the WNBL. A second Melbourne-based NBL team may be established for the 2011-2012 season.[139] In November 2008, it was announced that the Victorian Major Events Company had informed the Australian Olympic Committee that Melbourne was considering making bids for either the 2024 or 2028 Summer Olympics.[140]
