The absolute worst snow year in 50 years!

So as most know by now, the snow conditions in the pacific northwest have been an absolute bummer. Many resorts are closed already, and the forecasts for others looks very bleak. I have heard many theories as to the cause, global warming, seasonal trend etc. But I want to know what everyone's thoughts are? Is this an indicator of what is to come in upcoming years?

why use a big word when a diminutive one will suffice?

global warming intensifies the weather patterns of el nino and la nina which have different implications on the winters in different places. La nina which was this year I believe does not favor a good winter in the northwest. Its all about what storms are doin and where they are tracking. The jetstream is not doin anything to help the north west either consider ing a few days ago it was going above alaska then dropping below the northeast which is what has been keeping northesatern temps pretty cold for this time of year.

the over all trend for the last 20-30 years has been less snow fal but this year in specifc was bad because of an od weather pattern that shifted the jet stream south of the padific NW. I think next year things should be fairly normal if not pushing epic. If I remeber corrrectly the year before bakers record setting season was pretty shitty so either way lets keep our fingers crossed and really make some sacrafices to the snow gods this year

i live in the east(philadelphia) we got maybe 7 inches all year. not even one fuckin school day off. not even 1. this shit blows. w/e i wasnt expecting a snowstorm anyway

eh, the northeast got pretty much snow this year, but it came later than normal, and then kicked on later. annnd we only got pow here so making kickers sucked ass. o well, snows snow, i wont complain.

Lake Tahoe got its ass kicked by mother nature this year. They have so much snow it could just about cover North America. Thats were all the snow went this year.

 
California has been getting dumped on this year. Which is strange, figuring that everything north of us has been getting rained on.

I'm sorry about The rest of the coast getting garbage this year.

 
the NW got screwed but they still had some snow, and a salvagable park........meadows closed 3 days ago and i think steven's called it quites 4 or 5 days ago

wooo tahoe got a lot of snow, which you think would happen since you guys are above us, but maybe you smell too much and it melted everything like in the beavis and butthead game for snes.

 
haha, well i am not complaining, but when we get pow we only get like 10 inches max, it's not like the west where you get 2 feet dumped on you every night.

The jet stream is just kickin it down south this winter it not gonna be a regular thing. weather does not change that dramaticly for the long run in only one season.

i think theres been enough precip. but, at least in park city the snow just all melts off in between storms cuase its been so warm, sounds like the case in bc too

Yeah, tahoe has had the best season in a while, I go to school in southern california and the mtns down here have gotten way more than average, I believe mt high got 10feet in less than a week. I'd blame it on jet streams, just bad luck.

 
the pnw got hammered by pineapple express'. we had a ton of rain in the seattle area, but we also had like days where 6"" of rain fell at the ski areas. and when you dont have much snow anyway because its so bloody dry, you tend to get screwed over... hard

Baker didnt have much snow either. They said it was the worst year since they opened, they accumulated over 20 inches of rain as the year went on. All you guys need to quit complaining though. If you have a seasons pass, go skiing. Me and my buddies went skiing in the rain and there was like 3 people on the mountain, and i learned how to ski switch through water.

El Nino = good in west and northwest

La Nina = bad in west good in northeast

Both mean nothing for the rockies.

yea hood possibly had the worst snow year ever. hood meadows is closed!!! and its not even spring break. and basically the most snow all year was like 40 inches. i fuckin hate bush

 
here in the north east the weather sucked until about late febuary and march, and it has been great ever since, but there was Nothing untill about mid january

so i was watching the weather and it seems utah might get hit pretty hard with valley rain and mountain snow all the way till thursday....we really need it.

i know it! I live in Bend, Oregon, and i ski mt. bachelor, and weve got like 8 inches TOPS. No summer ski camp at windells, callin it now

 
yeah vail wasnt that great i got back from there today but breckenridge got 18 inches in the past 5 days it was siick.

and jay has been getting dumped this month

and mammoth.. holy shit so much snow there its unfair

but everywhere else hasnt been doing very well, i feel bad for bc, all the peeps at whistler are coming down to colorado to ski

 
Tahoe has gotten so much snow so far and its been cold, and we expect 2 feet this weekend. gonna be skiing well into late may. as for everyone who sucked, look....theres really good winters and really bad winters, so don't worry, i just one of many different kinds.

pss no one from whistler goes to CO their season sucked too, not as bad as here but not very good. O well, this is my third season here, 2 years ago was decent, last year kicked ass, and this year was decent until the pineapple express... What can u do, just ski, im totally stoked for next year's kickass season tho!

i think that in my opinion, in my hometown, there it would have snowed more, if it hadnt been to cold for it. For real, over some days around x-mas, there were min. -12°C. Thats too cold for snowing real.

ANd on the mountain, there was alot of wind during this year. So there isnt much snow, but my homeresort is going to stay open until the 1st of may.
