That NS vibe on the mountain

I recently went to Killington for opening day this past monday with one of my buddies. I am a full-time college student from Western-Mass and squeeze every bit of skiing I can out of the east coast. I have been a member of NS since 2009 but actually started commenting and contributing a lot this past year. Since this, I noticed that I no longer ski with myself or just my group, when I'm on the mountain I feel a part of a community that is like no other. I suffer from pretty brutal anxiety due to having a drug addict brother who has shadowed me my entire life. But when I'm on the mountain I feel free, I feel a weight lifted off my shoulders. I feel happy and its a feeling that I get only from skiing. I talk to every skier, old, park rat, back country, beginner, experienced, loud, shy. In my mind every skier is apart of NS and thats why I have the comfort to be myself on the mountain. NS helped me break through to another side of myself, I now know that I belong on the mountain, its my home, my dojo, my safe-place, and my playground. Skiing allows me to go where I want, when I want, and by my terms. Skiing is my release from anxiety, and I just wanted to thank the community of Newschoolers for helping me conquer it, and helping find out what I truly enjoy in life.

-Thanks NS for always being hilarious when I'm down

-Thanks NS for the most epic skiing footage found anywhere on the inter web

-Thanks NS for creating people like FRY who come up with most insane responses that crack me up

-Thanks NS for allowing normal kids like me to connect with pros & companies who we would never talk to in our entire lives but do through NS

Thank you NS

-Jeffrey Turrini

That's some real shit right there. I've only been on NS since the summer, but I feel the same way. NS is a chill and safe place for all of us.

Anxiety is a tough thing to beat, from past experience. So stoked for you man and also stoked that you've stumbled across this fuckin awesome community.

Skiing is so incredibly special in so many ways. Glad you where able to find release and comfort in the best sport out there with the help of the best community on the internet. Thanks for sharing your story, man. Lets hear some more!

There is no other place on the web like NS. Were all bonded together by our comon love, we are not just a group of people, we are all a big group of mutual friends who all love what we do, ski

I honestly feel that NS is a place were everyone can be friends, the one place where I can feel comfortable to talk about whatever I want with a large group of people who know so much. It's so nice to have such a wealth of information, we have park managers, backcountry shredders, park slayers, old schoolers, highschool/college kids, hell, we even got pros and big name companies we can talk with!

NS is amazing

i would say you're propably not the only one to feel this way. i really really appreciate you for writing this, i'll rate you 10/10.

keep on going and have a nice season bud!

After a certain amount of time most people pick up a respectable confidence from NS, kind of like a mountain presence. It's a conversation starter, a community, and a great group to be a part of... Newschoolers is dope.

The feedback is unbelievable, can't even put into words how incredible it feels to have the support of this community. Did not expect this turn out.

I am speechless

Can not thank everyone enough

Glad to know I'm not the only one who feels this way about anxiety and skiing.. Newschoolers is the shit. Keep doin your thing bro!

I like it when I meet people on the mountain, tell them my ns name and, then watch their facial expression. Yet to see anyone go holy shit its you, you fucking ass hole waiting for that day.

Love the NS community and on mountain vibe. It's a beautiful thing.

Step two: Get yourself a whitewater canoe, kayak, or raft. Only vibe I've ever felt close to the good times on a ski mountain have come on the river. Trust me man, everyone is family in a rapid chocked river.

Ski all winter and spring, boat all summer and fall. Live anxiety free and happy for the rest of your life. Try it man, I guarantee you won't regret it one bit.

Something about conquering nature and finding your own way is definitely satisfying and good for the soul.

Hell yeah!

Nothing better than the vibes in the park on a nice day. Everyone wants everyone else to stomp shit and all the park kids are homies.

Great thread, makes me wish I could get back on to the mountain and meet up with the community. It's crazy, for me if I find out someone skis it doesn't matter who they are I can talk to them for hours without even knowing the person, skiers - we are rad people

This is so true, I have at least 4 or 5 dudes that I will run into randomly at bars that I hardly know and have never gone skiing with. First thing we always bring up to each other is where did you go last year and where are you going this year. Skiing stories are so much better than random bar conversation. We are an odd breed.

NS is really a great community. It can go ful retard from time to time, but overall nothing matches it in the skiing world.

Talking to everyone on the Mountain now after reading this thread! NS is good stuff man, have not been on here long but I just love the vibe.

I love the early season vibe at Killy. Last year there was such a good scene at the reason park with every hiking features smoking spliffs and drinking 40s. Going on saturday hope its a nice day!

absolutely love ns from the amazing edits, they see me trollin, mashed potato's, the list goes on and on. Awesome threads (like this one), great members that really help you out with a trick or finding something, or just trollin on a thread, never once has ns not got me stoked. Thats probably why im on every day, and like just like you said about your mountain vibe, great point i have the same feelin. When i go to my home mt, shure its not the best park in the word but i get the best vibe from that lil mt. All the shit in my life gets off my mind for a few hrs and i just have this feeling of freedom skiing with my friends having the time of my life. Thank you NS

totally relatable man! was at Killington today and the vibes were alive. thank you Jeffrey this is super legit!

NS is great. It definitely got me to talk to random skiers at my home mountain. Now that we all know each other too the stoke and just get crazy and everyone just skis off of each others hype. Its crazy the community that ensues when everyone starts getting to know each other.

-Moral of the story: Meet every one and get every one to meet each other on the hill. The community it generates just emits so much stoke it's great.

Oh you bet your ass I will be there for most of them Mr. Bishop, people forget the community that we have on the east coast. Small mountain to small mountain you will find groups of skiers and friends unlike any other. we are bound by our love for skiing. We don't have the best conditions, terrain parks, or snow but thats what makes us all so close. Our passion blinds us to not give a single fuck about the surroundings, we do it because we LOVE IT, and brings a feeling that only skiing can bring
