Terrain parks

I was just thinking about how resorts actually have parks. It’s kinda crazy that these big companies and resorts actually have parks instead of just all blue runs for the majority of people that pay big money to ski on vacation and shit. Obviously some are pretty bad but the fact that someone thought about the park rats. I guess it’s just kinda standard now to have atleast one park but I think it’s crazy that these resorts “encourage” people to hits rails and get corked. Idk if any of this makes sense lol but it was just a though

Totally. Same thing with avy terrain. Sort of why you see specialization where some resorts focus a ton on park and sell a lot of tickets / passes to that group, some focus on steep skiing to attract a large enough crowd to make it worth it, and some focus on grooming the crap out of it to pull tourists. And that is how you get VIBES.

at the risk of sounding cynical: thank snowboarders in the late 80s/early 90s. mountains didnt start providing parks out of the goodness of their hearts

This.

Skiers hated snowboarders. Snowboarders kept showing up. Mtns built snowboard parks to get snowboarders away from skiers. Johnny Tsunami moved from Hawaii to take on the daunting challenge of ending the skier snowboard rift. His quest was successful and now all skiers and snowboarders are free to frolic in the terrain parks.

And we owe him as Skys to always keep our tips up.

Mountains literally pay somebody thousands of dollars a year to groom up gnarly booters for me to straight air all day and sometimes do a flip god bless America ?

It's pretty nuts indeed. Bachelor puts out an ass wipe for parks, and so far, I just don't see folks really bringing it.

In the past I saw way more folks using them.

Maybe it's just a cycle.

When they moved the parks into all the best carving runs on the Mt, I said, if you can't beat them, join them!

Then they went further with a Progression park, a Peace park, and a Family Cross zone!

I thought it was Johnny’s dad who moved to the mountains of Vermont which were seriously lacking in waves then that kinda made him go full on karate kid mode on the slopes?

I remember growing up and there was a local resort not allowing skiers in the terrain park. I was like “wtf”. Jokes on them though because the neighboring resorts have better parks now.

Looking at you, Sugar Mountain in NC.

Now I realize why skateparks are built

But it still blows my mind that the ground at my local is less smooth than the parking lot I walked through to get there...great job city planners

Haha, plus the city also allows graffiti anywhere in skateparks so sometimes the bowls get...slippery.

Denver skatepark has a weird anti graffiti coating thens slick af. I ride hard wheels and that shit was loose.

Have heard if people running a different board for that park with softer wheels.
