Rail jam going down at UW-Madison again this year. Same spot, at the terrace behind the union on Lake Mendota. I wonder if it's a scam like last year.. that was wack.
anybody going to compete/going? I'll probably sign up for it again if you don't need to sign up for some BS insurance plan.

The whole video submission thing is shit. im not much for filming at all, and have little footy. do pics count?
 
honestly that stuff doesn't really matter. I think there were only like 10 skiers last year. They only use that stuff if there are a ton of entries and they need to pick the best people for the competition. It's a cookie cutter sign up sheet for all their rail jams.
 
I will not register for this event until I find out if some insurance company is going to try and pull some bullshit again. For those of you who don't know, we had to sign up for an insurance policy last year. Little did we know, there was going to be a monthly charge for said insurance policy. I ended up sending them a letter asking them to not charge me and to please refund all the money they had charged my bank account. They did refund my money after contacting them a few times. They also informed me that they could not find the insurance agent who was responsible for setting up the policies. They could not contact him and had to start an investigation on him. I was interviewed over the phone about it.

Way too sketchy for my taste. Hoofers, please tell me that they are:

A) Not making us sign up for said insurance policy; or

B) Not going to start sending me a monthly fee for something I thought I was only paying for once.

I understand the event is run by the guys who do the campus rail jam tour and they control all the risk management/insurance, so if they are going to continue using the same insurance company, XSI, then I believe hoofers needs to say screw the scaffolding set-up and just set up a few features on Bascom. I am sure you guys could pull it off by yourselves.
 
that insurance last year was a load of BS, other then that it was a really fun time
i don't know if i'll be doing it again though
 
well it was just the $20 or whatever to enter the rail jam and you had to give them your bank account number and they just pulled out $20, but in the waivers you signed it said something about you were actually signing up for an insurance plan along with the rail jam and it automatically deducted $20 or something from your account every month.
I'm only signing up if I can pay cash and its just an entrance fee for the jam, no BS insurance
 
Hey everyone,

My name is Ely and I'm heading this event up at Hoofers.

Wanted to clear some things up. Galvanic and more importantly, Hoofers, is NOT working with XSI or any renewable insurance this year. I'm actually pretty sure that they ran into a bunch of legal issues with what they were pulling on you guys as well as other riders and skiers from Galvanic events. We totally understand that last year there was that ridiculous renewable thing going on. That's NOT happening this year.

Full disclosure, the $25 entrance fee does go towards a sports insurance policy for you guys and for the event, but it is a one time thing and does not renew. We're not signing you guys up for anything other than this event.

I'll try my best to get my hands on any/all forms you'll be filling out to look through them to make sure there's nothing in the fine print that would sign you up for anything.

I hope you guys come down and compete--this is going to be a ton of fun, just like last year. If you have any other questions feel free to ask away or shoot me an email at gerbin (at) wisc.edu.

alright, this sounds much better.
do you know if we can just register and pay in cash the day of the event at the union? or do we have to fill out that online application thing? or do we fill out the online application and then show up and pay in cash?
 
You have to fill out the form online and then register and pay in cash day of the event.

The pictures/video thing is required because of insurance for the event. It's a way of screening people, so that we don't have someone who's never skied or snowboarded before enter the competition and hurt themselves. If you don't have any footage but still want to compete, get in touch with me, and we can try and figure something out.

Let me know if anyone has any questions/concerns and definitely spread the word and tell everyone you know! The more competitors and the bigger the crowd, the more fun it'll be.

real fun, lots of big tricks, lots of flips, and lots of people, Alec Nelson took First, I took second, and Swanson Took 3rd, everyone killed it, and it was a good way to start off the season. :) big prizes to!!
