Tennis

Started playing recently I'm really bad I want to improve

Here's how we did it on my highschool tennis team for people that hadn't really played before

Get a friend and a basket of balls. Take turns with the friend, feeding all the balls across the net. Try to keep the feed consistent. Just practicing the same forehand/backhand shot over and over until you get the swing and timing dialed. Once you've hit all the balls, pick them up and switch who's feeding.

If you have a big wall or garage door or something like that you can hit balls off that solo, too.

Figure out how to grip the racket for groundstrokes w/ topspin vs. slice shots / serving

Footwork is pretty important, make sure you are setting up for every shot. I always end up getting lazy and then start hitting every single ball out.

If you can find an old cheap racket to keep around for smashing and throwing that helps with the mental aspect

Having a personal ball boy helps lot. I can recommend one to you. Having a luxury car is necessary for good tennis player. Also remember to have tax fraud going on, can't forget that.

Grew up playing tennis. Still play on occasion. One of the best and most satisfying sports to play aside from golf.

They are pretty similar. In both situations you are really playing against yourself.

CT is unironically an S tier state, I love when people call it "the highway between NY and Boston" because keep it on the low that its one of the best spots in the country. Especially new haven county

Hit against the wall, you will get more hits than hitting with someone, especially if you're starting. Take your time when hitting the ball, don't rush your swing. Tennis is about consistency and precision, if you can hit hard but can't control the ball it it doesn't really matter.

If you have a friend your level, you guys should focus on controlling the ball, hitting in the center, and eventually hitting deep (first bounce past the service line).

Also if you want to watch video, this youtube channel is pretty good

35-year-old American Donald Young to retire at the US Open, will play with Taylor Townsend in mixed doubles.

I played varsity tennis for four years in High School and still play every now and then. I like it for the same reason as skiing/skating. It's only you and there's nobody else to blame or get frustrated with.

Also went to the US Open for the first time this year. Was honestly super fun and would even recommend to people not into tennis. Felt like a really cool combo of sporting event/music festival.

Absolutely nothing of substance to contribute to the thread but my late grandfather loved tennis and always tried to get me into it as a kid. I played baseball at the time so everytime he’d tried to show me how to play tennis I’d just home run the ball out of the court over the fence, he’d get so mad and make me chase the ball. Great memories.
