Telluride VS Breck

So I'm planning for a ski trip for my school club and we're down to these two.I'm down for breck because I know they have a good mountain with nice park setups

But I don't really know much about telluride. Can anyone tell me much about it? Like the mountain as whole, snow, park, night life etc

I've never been to breck, but i ski in telluride all the time.

The last two years the snow has sucked but it still has great steep terrain. If you like chutes, hike to terrain, and challenging stuff this is the place. Their park isn't very good it consists of a 4 fairly big jumps with a few rails below. The night life is fairly quiet and things close down pretty early but the town is a really cool small town.

If you like park better your better off going to breck I'd say, but unfortunatley i cant tell you much about it.

Is the terrain on breck really mellow or something? I would be happy with some decent pow runs here and there. If not, I'll just bring my park skis and stay in park the whole time

I still have to care for people that are beginner-intermediate and mainly are going to the trip for the party shit so night life is kinda important.

But I guess it won't be too bad seeing how it's CO and shit. We'll just smoke some legal weed all night I guess

Breck is a large mountain with good skiers and a wide range of terrain.

Telluride is an extreme hill with a lot of badass pre-AK trainers with some really steep and technical stuff. It depends on what you are going for.

I'd say Telluride. I've always wanted to go there, and I've heard so many stories about it.

Everything you're saying is pointing to Breck.

Telluride and Wolf Creek are kind of the incomparable back-country-style resorts in Colorado. They're amazing terrain and unreal snow. They're also a solid 6-7 hours from Denver, so getting there isn't easy. Since you're planning a huge trip, the gut instinct is to say to to Telluride because it's such a one-of-a-kind experience and you might not get the chance to do it again. Breck is only 2 hours from DIA, so getting there for a weekend isn't hard.

That being said, it sounds like you're not looking for epic lines, but more-so a diverse park experience that you can have a blast with while the rest of your group sticks to blue squares and basic terrain. Also, you said you need a good nightlife. If these past two statements are true, pick Breck. But don't think you've skied all CO has to offer. Save your pennies and get to Telluride at some point (with a group that can handle it all).

Thanks all.

I've been skiing since I was little and my ski friends and I rip shit up in squaw/alpine all the time so I really wanted to go to jackson this year but having a good night life scene is important since we'll have a lot of beginner-intermediate people that are not interested at all in shredding spines and hucking cliffs.

I guess breck is the answer. Said no to jackson because apparently a lot of terrain is not accessible without tons of snow(??) and it's too difficult in general. big sky was out because there's no night life.

went to whistler last year and it was fucking sick but don't want to do it two years in a row because it's not very cheap.

Depends what you are looking for but I would say telluride hands down. Telluride has the best views anywhere and some of the most gnarly, steep, and fun terrain. A 5-10 min hike off of prospect bowl lift gets you to steep chutes, open faces, cliffs, trees...basically everything you could want. The groomers in telluride are also epic, very open, long and steep with great views. In peak season telluride has NO LINES. You will wait forever in line in breck, but you will get a ton more vertical at telluride on better terrain. Also while Brecks park is obviously bigger and better, tellurides park is still pretty damn good and you will not have to wait in line. You'll basically have it to yourself.

I would recommend staying in the town of telluride and not the mountain village. Town is super cool. Filled with lots of ganja lovers and dirty hippies but unfortunately has been been getting more stuffy as a lot of really rich people have been moving in. Still plenty of party to be had but breck might have a younger night life crowd

Telluride park looks like it has like 5 jumps and 4 rails though haha

Fuck I'm torn. Telluride has sick lines that I would love to do but I still have to think about members that just want to cruise groomers. Then I got my park friends and kids that just want to party and shit. And breck is breck

Derp

Another thing to consider: I'm assuming you meant college, right? So when you say you want nightlife you're looking for bars and clubs? If you aren't 21, that won't mean shit for you and you should go to Telluride. After all, it's not like Telluride is a ghost town with a gondola.

If you ride in california this will help.

Breck = Heavenly

Telluride = Kirkwood

I used to ski colorado a lot when I was in college now I'm out here on the best coast.

Yes. This guy knows what's up.

Except Telluride might be better compared to Mammoth. Bigger terrain and far separated from the rest of the resorts.

Love to ride the wood though.

Telluride is an awesome mountain and their park is decent it is a pretty expensive town and night life is pretty fun, there are a lot of cool people down there and all super friendly. The park differs every year 2 seasons ago it had a jump where you could float cork 9's and some sweet rails that you can get creative on. Last year they built up there jumps a little and some kids threw dubs but they were pretty hucked the rest of the mountain is amazing you gave everything from super steep hike to terrain, to groomers that you can bomb down. There is so much terrain that the mountain that you rarely feel like you are crowded by millions

As for Breck i have only been there twice and once i didn't ski the park is amazing but the mountain can get really packed and you can wait in lift lines for a while i really only skied park so i don't know much about that mountain. You really did pick two completely different mountains but if you want a mountain where you can find all different levels of park go to Breck and if you want to adventure and do all different terrain go to Telluride.

ps. telluride is probably one of the most beautiful places on earth the drive is amazing!

Yeah college. I was kinda leaning for breck since it's a popular place but you guys are convincing me to go to telluride.

Derp derp. I'll have to see how much the thing will cost once I talk to the tour guy but yeah telluride sounds pretty good

All about priorities man. What are you looking to get out of the trip? An unforgettable ski experience? Telluride is your place. Are you looking to have a great time and bangin party with your WHOLE group the whole time? Then do Breck. If you have intermediate skiers with you and you go to Telluride, you damn well better plan to leave them behind for a day or two.

Would you say groomers on telluride are more challenging than other groomers of different resorts? I mean I'm sure it has some greens where people can chill and learn.

I'm not going to be baby sitting my members. I'll be either hiking up for some pow or just hit the park with friends. I just have to think about new-ish people that aren't that good so there has to be mellow slopes for them.

Thanks for the insight though. What a decision. Unforgettable skiing experience or a banging party? An amazing skiing experience I think, since it's an annual ski trip and all

I took my ski club that was full of gapes and they loved it.

At the same time I've never in my life gotten more air on rollers than I did at T ride. They have some of the steepest grooming I've skied.

And with regards to partying dude, I saw fuckin' Koolio at Telluride. That's way better than anything breck has had to offer the countless nights I've been out there although on average breck has a better scene. Then again we got him to sing the Keenan and Kel theme song soooooo hahaha.

If you're taking your ski club which presumably you are I always liked to think that you could have a raging party anywhere and skiing should come first, that's why they're in the club. Kids are going to remember the skiing/scenery more than they'll remember a packed bar.

Idk man, I fuckin loved telluride even though the snow was sub par. Maybe it's because this cheesy video came out a month or so before we we're going or maybe it was the views and my general distaste at the time for the long holiday lines at breck. Either way you'll have fun with wherever you choose.

Ps. When it's on at T ride it's FUCKING ON

God damnit now I want to ski really bad.

not sure why it hasn't been thrown own there, but Aspen! park is just a step below breck's, has nightlife, has some great steeps on highlands and snowmass as well as nice intermediate terrain at all 4 hills, and is less crowded than breck. it can be pricey, but i can't imagine it's that much more than telluride and it's easier to get to.

That's a good point Karma Police. We can throw a crazy rage party whenever we want. Skiing should come first before partying because it's not like we can do that shit here.

Thanks. I can't make the decision myself but I'm gonna push for Telluride

Unless you are solely a park rat, there is no competition. Breck is not steep at all, it's pretty much flat and gets no snow. All it has are tons of park features. Telluride is a real classic ski town that is steep and gets more snow, with a great array of terrain.

actually if you compare yearly averages on most snow years, breck gets more snow than tride unless it's an el nino year. Breck actually has amazing conditions a lot of the time unless it's like the season before last... however, tride's terrain is unmatched by anything in breck for sure.

telluride for sure. all breck has going for it is their great park and big crowds. telluride is way cooler of a town, mountain, and all around vibe. unless you are just trying to get fucked up all day then go to breck

telluride is the fucking shit, I go there every year and even if the snow sucks, it's still a rad time. And Telluride's park isn't all bad, it may not be massive but they have some of the best built jumps I've ever hit.

Thanks all. Definitely going to telluride. Hope there are some cool clubs and shit. Otherwise we will have to have room parties and get in trouble for being too loud haha

Sick! Good luck bro.

Make sure everyone realizes that those areas with the little double black diamond symbol aren't just your average run for some tourist to show how good he is at sidestepping. Telluride is a serious hill.

Have fun, be safe.

it has been said multiple times, but telluride is 10x better than breck. and if its dumping, youll be glad that you dont have a breck sized hangover.
