You know that one time you went to band camp? Tell me about it.

I'm putting together something of a ski camp guide for NS and I want to hear about your experiences... GO!

Always have had a great time at Ohio dreams. Mainly went there because it was close, and cheaper than most camps. Met a lot of friens there, and progressed a ton. Oh and they also have the dirt jumps, the skateparks, and most importantly the most fun slip and slide on the planet. They have tramps, water ramps, a summer setup.

Momentum is so sick. The hotel is so nice, the food is amazing since you go to a different restaurant every night and the park is unreal. Plus the coaches aren't bad.

Windells- this is my opinion

Pros

Good park

Fun skatepark

Lots of pros

Cons

Bad food

The cabins are shit

Too crowded

Buses take forever

Windells campus is like 50 minutes away from the snow

The worst part that really killed it for me was the coaches. My coach took maybe 2 laps with us then skied away to hang with his other coach buddies. I thought this was really poor

Momentum

Pros

There are really good skiers

Best park out of all 3 camps I've been to

More airbag training time than windells

Fast t bar

Awesome food

Really nice hotel rooms

Coaches that care

Cons

The walk on the first day sucks. You have to lug yo gear almost a mile. After that it's easy tho

It's more expensive

You have a different coach everyday so it takes awhile for them to understand your skill level at first

It's in Canada so more paperwork/passport crap

Woodward Tahoe

Pros- probably the best coaching out of all 3

Best offsnow training out of all 3 camps

More relaxed and has less kids than windells

You will learn dubs on tramp

Most fun activities

Cons

Food is disappointing

There is no snow at all this year

The rooms are in an old motel

No lift or ropetow

Tl;dr here are my top pick choices

1. Momentum- good on snow but expensive

2. Woodward- best for your money

3. Windells- worst, I do not recommend, it's overrated and for 12 year old saga fanboys who like fulltilt (not to be harsh)

Windells

Pros

-Park is great

-for me, the coaching was great. Cam boll did good.

-campus is sick, cabins suck though

Cons

-Food tastes like actual ass

-everything you want to buy is insanely expensive

-the campus is a jillion miles away from snow

Camp of champions had a rad park, great food, coaches, pros and accommodations. I had the best week of my life shredding there. If I could afford it id definetly go back.

When I went to windells I walked in on my counselor in the bathroom with a needle. It was really awkward so I just walked out right away. It kind of scarred me. I'll definitely not be returning.

Pretty serious allegation right here

mhssc was sick. Bomb ass food especially the breakfast. Park is great and campers and coaches are chill. Gas Station right by the camp. Only thing is some of the counselors are a bit weird.

9.5/10

Camped in the woods at Mt. Hood last May

Pros:

Got to do actual camping, like in the woods in a tent

Could do whatever we wanted and be as loud as we wanted, no neighbors where we camped

Closer to T-line than the official camps

Got hammered every night

Super cheap, no lodging costs and $99 ski pass

Crashed a random Sandy High School senior party that happened right next to our camp one night, got kicked out

Pooping in the woods

No schedule or pressure to go skiing every day because you're paying a ton of money

Cons:

It's hard to build campfires in a rain forest with wood that is and always has been wet

Your friends will get drunk and try to throw each other's camp chairs in the fire and end up throwing them at each other and getting 2nd degree burns

Rain.

woodward copper:

PROS

great off snow training

good food

great coaches

nice jump progression (10 footer, 30 footer, 50 footer)

lotta freedom

counselors are really chill

where you sleep is really nice

lotta stuff to do when you're not skiing

variety of rails

meet cool people

very few little kids

2nd rail park

CONS

very expensive (2000+)

only 5 days

snow isn't that good

very crowded

uncomfortable bus ride to park

stuff to buy is expensive

only 2.5-3 hours on snow a day

t-bar has a huge line

didn't get to use airbag at all

10pm curfew

9/10

Some of this stuff is contrary to what was said above about Woodward at Copper but...

Woodward at Copper (Been there 3 years)

Pros:

Decent lodging. They do 2 per little hotel bedroom which is plenty of space for the little time you spend there

Counselors are super dope if you get to know them

So much tramp and foam jump time if you're big into that

10 minute drive to top of the park

Somewhat above average food

Lots of options at each meal

4 hours on snow each morning with an option for 2 more in the evening is perfect

The party the hold at the end of the week is pretty dope

Coaches are super pumped to help but if you're not in the top 3 groups some of the coaches aren't even that good at skiing

Cons:

A lot of little kids and kind of geared towards the 11-14 age, I went last summer at 16 and I felt too old

If you don't skate there aren't a lot of fun things to do off the hill. Go-karting is fun if you're 13 (sorry)

In order to go out for dinner you have to find like 5 other people who are game to go to the same place

Too much time at "The Cage"

Takes 2 hours to get to from DIA

MHSSC

Pros

-Good food

-Chill

-Not crowded

-Good coaches

-Nice kids

Cons

-Not as big of a park

Snowflex

Pros:

-jumps are rad, you can send it as far as you want basically. Under the snowflex is padding so knuckling/ falling doesn't hurt so much.

-really consistent conditions

-ride 2 sessions a day (in the morning and at night when it's coolest out side)

-tramp is cool

-skate park is cool

-the dorms are air conditioned and pretty big. They're actually super nice.

-awesome for East coasters and really inexpensive compared to other camps.

-2 rope tows

-coaching is really solid for both skiers and snowboarders. Check out the project flex edit.

-shit ton of prizes. I won a pair of skis, my friend won a snowboard, and one kid actually won 2 pairs of skis. There were a ton of other things too.

-savvy_ski and I were the only girls there and we had our own coach. We got so much feedback and progressed a lot.

-they have an airbag now.

pro/con:

-it's run through skiers and snowboarders for Christ. Take that as you will. They have a bible study every night that you have the choice of attending. If that's you're think you'll get a lot out of it and really like it. If not, that's okay too!

-I went when I was 18 and there were soooo many younger kids. It was like a swarm of 12-15 year olds. But it was really cool to hang out with the coaches because we were around the same age. Definitely pretty cool to go out to dinner with them and stuff.

Cons:

-if you don't cover your skin you'll get some nice turf burn.

-snowflex takes some getting used to. It's really, really easy to slip out when trying to carve/speed check/stop.

I went to Ohio Dreams a few years back. Here's what I wrote when I returned. Sorry it's so long haha I copied and pasted it from this shitty thread I madehttps://www.newschoolers.com/forum/thread/754211/Just-arrived-at-ohio-dreams

"tl;dr it was good and I learned a lot. Most scooter kids are fags.

Well.. I was really hoping this would be buried for good haha because the OP was so embarrassingly stupid.

Anyway, There was a Canadian ski team who was pretty cool, and they were all super into comps so they'd been coached for a good while. So they were obviously a lot better than me as I've never had access to water ramps, a coach, or even an airbag.

My first hit on the ramps was kind of sketchy and I just did an awkward 360 to warm up. 2nd hit I decided to try a backy and completely ate it in front of everyone. I hit my head really hard and it was super embarrassing because I screwed up such a simple trick that I could even do on snow. The reason it didn't come around was because I was sketched out by the M-snow and was in the backseat and didn't really pop.. so yeah.

So my first session I hit my head really hard twice and was super pissed and thought I had wasted my money because I couldn't even do a backflip. My coach also wasn't there for every session the first 2 days because he helps run the camp and had other things to do I guess. The last 3 days he was always by my side though and that was awesome.

Towards the end of Day 2 I got used to the ramps and all was good, so I could actually start learning things. My coach was super helpful, and always had something for me to improve on. A lot more goes into each trick then I thought.

Their rail setup though, was complete garbage. I mean, I still had a ton of fun on the box, but it was just metal coping and plywood coated in primer or something to help slide. They had a flat bar that was all crooked, and was missing carpet on the landing so if you went to the right you landed on plywood for your landing, rather than carpet. You also caught edges all the time on the bar. I was never coached on rails, which was fine because I just did them when I was alone because the Canadians did there own thing like watching movies sometimes.

My coach taught me a lot on the tramp and helped me take it to the ramps. The weather was really cold for 2-3 days so the morning sessions were freezing, but what can you do. The walk up to the ramps was brutal too.

And the owner is a skier too, so pretty much all the cool adult staff are automatically your friends, and would always chill at the tramp with you.

If you go I highly recommend bringing a friend, because 95% of the BMX, and Scooter kids are complete douches... It was hard to deal with them in the dorms the first few nights. Also, they don't enforce the cell phone rule in the dorms, so for sure bring your phone and a charger. I borrowed a charger from the Canadians and texted my girl until the faggot scooter kids got tired of being obnoxious and went to sleep. Also, Ohio Dreams really isn't all that popular for skiing, which is good and bad. It's good because you get way more attention (In my case, I was the only true camper, so I had the coach to myself) but bad because most of the other campers that aren't skiers are not tolerable human beings. By day 3 the Canadians I was good friends with the ski team so it wasn't so bad.

All in all, the camp had great vibes when you were doing something skiing related. Every night we'd all just chill at the tramp, talk and play add on. Chris owns the place and is really cool and is a god at bed tricks on the tramp.

I had a chance to ride there bmx race track which I'd never experienced before and it was awesome. It was me and the ski team just having a good time on other campers bikes. I also got to skate there parks which were pretty prime. Some cool little kid let me borrow his scooter and it was pretty fun riding that through a full blown skate park.

Next to the water ramps they have a gigantic slip and slide which was insanley fun. So many people were throwin down on them. I always over rotated my dubs and smacked so I only did like 4-5 but this one kid could stomp 4-5 different kinds of dubs everytime and it was awesome to see.

Breakfast was consistently bad, lunch was usually pretty good, but dinner was ON POINT. Every night dinner was delicious and that made the trip so much better because I didn't have to go to bed starving. They had a shop you could buy snacks from too which was nice. 2 dollar cliff bars fer dayz.

The camp took a little settling in, but in the end I'm glad I went. I met a lot of cool people and learned a ton of new things. I now know where I am in the air, and can't wait to stomp a bunch of new tricks this season. You can get endless hits on the ramps, and there is no limit to what you can learn. A guy was learning Right dub 12's one night.. So sick to watch.

I absolutely recommend this camp. They are getting a super tramp for next summer and that is a reason in itself to go. You learn at your own pace, and can work on anything. It's all up to you.

I'm not used to all this freetime, so that is why I wrote so much.. I wish I could be on their trampoline right now.

If you have any questions message me and I'll be sure to help you out. We should get a couple NS together and all go one session"

is the straight from the diary?

I went to Freestyle America in Waterville NH this summer. Had great coaching, friendly people, and lots of fun activities. I learned a lot, had an amazing time, and can't wait for next year. One of the best experiences I've had in a while. 100% recommend it.

I've been to Momentum two summers.

Pros -

~ The hotel, super nice, has a pool/hot tub which is really chill after skiing. In the middle of Whistler.

~ The food, almost always great food, lunch is amazing, different place to eat every night.

~ The park, park is really fun and well maintained by the diggers, much bigger and better than COC's park.

~ I met a lot of chill people.

~ Get to basically do whatever the fuck you want in whistler.

~ The coaches are chill.

~ Greg's Dad

Cons -

~ 10pm curfew, this is kinda a bummer and they are pretty strict about it.

~ Long ass lines for the t-bar, a race lane got put in beside the momentum lane and that added to the lines on the t bar. Sometimes the wait was more than 20 minutes.

~ Immature rich kids that cause drama.

MHSSC

Pros:

Foods great

Coaches are great

Staff are great

Chill vibes

Skiing is fun and parks not bad

Cons:

"Some sketchy stuff like waiting on the bus for 2 hours when we were leaving"

Racer kids....95% drive me crazy

All and all MHSSC had some small down sides but the down sides weren't a biggie....MHSSC was a fucking blast!!!! 9/10

1. Momentum- good on snow but expensive

great write up. but something to add to this, momentum/COC may be one of the cheaper camps for you americans this summer because of the way the dollar is going. the Canadian dollar is predicted to go down to 68 cents per US dollar which would give you guys some major savings.
