Tell NS What You Want

sounds like NS has gone independent! this is great because the man isn’t telling them how to make him more money and allows for creative freedom to progress the site. so as far as i see it, this is an opportunity for us low level users to voice how we want NS to be in the new world

heres what i would like to see:

1. more orange names in the forums- this used to be a place where pros would be posting and active in the community all the time. that isnt near as prevalent as it used to. maybe theres discounted advertising or something for companies who have more active users on the site

2. promote more user created content - like the web review that [tag=121584]@stokedelic[/tag] did and the series from [tag=1388]@skierman[/tag] moms basement. idk if they got anything but maybe some sort of sticker pack for a certain amount of views, hoodie for a second video in a certain timeframe with a certain amount of views, etc.

3. put .com on the ig logo and name- while your at it, throw some funny shit from the threads in a post every now and then. like a weekly recap

4. user contests - collabs like the worst topsheet are great and the average shit skier can partake. also, video edit contests uploaded to NS are great. maybe a pink name edit contest or something

5. pro contests - idk be cool to see a NS banner at x games or something

what else would make this site better? i foresee a lot of shit response on this lol but hopefully there’s some good recommendations
 
Skier of the month. Ik we have member of the month but if you really wanna drive traffic here, create monetary incentives to upload videos here so maybe like a budget of $50 a month for the best video posted here and then if it works we can start bumping it up? Maybe create a little option called "nominate" next to the like button, requires an account to vote, and if you win not only do you get cash but your video appears at the top of the homepage and on top of other pages wherever it fits I guess.

Brands still use this site, hungry kids will always look for support to make skiing easier for them, and their friends will create accounts to vote and drive traffic here, brands can have an easier time scouting riders, feels like there is something there that has never been implemented previously.

Obviously just throwing ideas out there so I'm probably overlooking some stuff but to me that seems like something we should have
 
I would start by keeping the core of NS (the forum) strong

- consolidation of threads (content-creators/media & arts, etc)

- old BST

- fixed bumping

- advertising the website on IG

Then i'd focus on merch/soliciting donations.

or we could just unban milffy and have 24hrs of no moderation
 
Yeah I think pushing the site more on ig, a lot of people don’t even know it’s a site. Especially if a lot of people like me are tired of ski ‘content’ on insta, they can come here and actually appreciate the sport and culture more than ahdh reels
 
Thanks for making the thread. We want to hear what you guys want because we need to make some big decisions.

On the tech end, we are going to have to make some pretty significant changes to this house of cards in the next 12 months. Some good, some potentially more challenging but they need to happen. That aside, we want to make the content you guys want to see so hit us.
 
Probably a few years away but NS sponsored or hosted touring rail jams would be so sick. Celebrating local riders and smaller hills could be super cool for the community. Congrats guys looking forward to seeing what you have in store!
 
Something that would encourage more creativity to happen. Just like the worst topsheet thing.

And ofcourse more active members are needed.

I'll add that I liked the group edit concept that [tag=190295]@percs[/tag] was supposed to deliver.

Also more euro members, during euro day it's mostly me and fabbe
 
and honestly more on-hill NS gatherings/events/parties/etc. Not trying to be like Bombhole but all their events they host at Brighton or Woodward PC are an absolute blast to be at.
 
Hosting more thrasher type content like raw cuts of video parts, legendary spot histories, behind the scenes of clips, hall of meat. Could watch stuff like that all day. Loved the p ring battle the spot, hoped we were getting more of those. I feel like newschoolers youtube and this site should be the hub to host all that stuff for freeskiing like thrasher does for skating. Arsenic’s YouTube does a good job now for hosting a lot of good content but I feel like newschoolers should be doing it even bigger

This 100%. Should be one the biggest priorities imo. I see a lot good videos on here getting very little traction, especially considering the difference from even a few years ago. While I like the NS original series, NS needs to do more for skiers/filmers/crews who are less established. One of the many reasons why I love WTRP series so much is that it supports and encourages people who aren't yet in the spotlight much but also have something to offer. NS is very much lacking in this regard. Consider the fact that a lot of people see NS as more of an IG repost page than a website and forum. We need more NS roundup type stuff to hopefully get more people watching videos on here. Edit contests are a good idea too. At the end of the day, NS is the only place where you can go to see longer form ski content all in one place. Although there's lot of ski videos on youtube, you'll miss a lot of content if you're not subscribed or if recommended isn't working as it should. Capitalizing on this somehow should be a priority.

I think skiing is also in need of more events. Particularly events that don't take place in skiing hotspots like SLC and where local riders can actually win (ex. master shredder.) I know that NS doesn't have energy drink type money to put on the biggest events with crazy prize money but I think any increase in events would be dope.

While we're at it I also support bringing back downvote button for edits.

I’m just excited to see actual honest roofbox/ski reviews now that they’re not being paid to say good things about every ski they review.

we should still work the corporate angle but just for free hot dogs. Hear me out, we want some on hill BBQs. In exchange for some promotion get areas to give us space on hill to set up or even better get them to give us a whole set up and help us pop up the NS x IKON x Woodward x Mt Bachelor tents with a bbq and a grip of hotdogs. Get a couple of us to volunteer and give out hotdogs all day like they did during the west coast sessions

I like how the site is partly broken, the android app is completely broken and pulled from major app stores and yet here we are talking about adding new features.

I hope they fix the android app, and I hope that next time they add a feature they tell someone.
 
This. I would be hyped on an NS podcast if executed well. I’d be interested in pro interviews, industry head interviews, and even banter between NS staff around industry topics. Member of the Month interviews might be epic too - or incorporating MOTM in another way.

Any other surfers on here? I’m a huge fan of everything Stab has done in the past few years and it really took them from a niche site to the core of the surf scene.

Stab High: Basically a competition to see who can go the biggest in terms of surf aerials. Could be adapted to a NS Big Air. The difference between NS and X-Games big air would be judge selection and scoring criteria. De-incentivize spin to win.

Stab Highway: Which is itself a ripoff of Thrasher’s King of the Road. Pick a few up and comers and set them some roadtrip style challenges. Could be really varied from park, urban, backcountry type challenges.

The Best Surfing I’ve Ever Seen: Video series with well known filmmakers where they showcase video from the best sessions they’ve ever filmed. Plus some backstories and behind the scenes from those legendary parts.

Not saying to blatantly rip off Stab but they have been killing it in the niche action sports media scene. I happily pay for their premium content and wouldn’t be opposed to NS having some paid features either.

A potential BST renaissance is hype.

I get that less traffic on the site mostly why it died down but.. old system + fixed bumping + more site traffic = profit?

Also video/content creation is the heart and soul of free skiing imo. NS becoming the go-to for watching videos (old and new) and other skiing related media would be huge. More people will post their videos, more people watching, more site traffic blah blah blah.

I probably don't know what I'm talking about, I'm just throwing shit out there

Years ago they had a high jump comp at Copper, pretty sure the prize was a Tacoma, I think someone broke their back too.
 
Need to grow up and stop censoring shit for potty words. Stop deleting posts when users are trying to show off gear they are selling and don't charge a vendor fee or try to make them buy add space. The forum and the community is what made this site gain popularity 15 years ago and it is what needs to stay, but man it really needs to be free. It's free skiing! Not left wing propaganda guys. Sometimes doing more is doing less
