Telemark??????

most people learned on a ntn?! damn youngins!

I learned with LEATHER boots on straight skis in early 90s. remember plastic boots was a huge stepup, and NTN was a gamechanger, you had actual control of what happend, you could carve turns hard!

definetly get NTN boots.
 
Yo guys i got some new chronics and i dont know where to mount them.

I have 22d outlaw x’s and mostly ski park, but will still cruise groomers and moguls and stuff a good amount. The recommended mount points are center and -2 cm

Where do you think i should mount them?

Damn good question. Off the top of my head, I'd say -2, but centre mounting them could be interesting if you're gonna be doing switch tele turns.

Id probably mount them boot-center right at -2, but that really kinda depends on a personal touch.
 
Switch tele turns are so damm hard. Any tele boys have any tips? Definitely a goal this year to figure out how to properly turn switch and not just revert 30ft after a 180 or a rail slide to switch

Only thing I've heard is practice, and make sure you don't get your feet backwards. When I was starting, I'd stick the wrong foot forwards. For example, if you're turning to your left while switch (looking over right shoulder), you should have your feet set up the same as if you were in a normal left turn. Feels backwards ass fuck though.

Forwards facing tele turns are already fucking hard... I eat shit and die whenever I try switch tele.
 
I can ski pretty much everything. Best tricks are hippie killers, back flips, flat 3 and 5's, and the occasional cat track front flip. Tele skiing is a fantastic way to challenge tf out yourself.

5s are so hard, it feels so unnatural to land switch with your weight on your heals

Switch tele turns make my brain hurt so I just don't do 'em.
 
Got a pair of Voile V6 183s on the way to put my 22designs Axl bindings on. Psyched for winter.

I'd also say play around with how much weight you have on each ski at different times during the turn.
 
Tele is dope…. Especially if you’re more into big mountain stuff, it’s super carvey and surfy. It’s super dope when ppl ski park on them and there’s some really cool tele specific tricks as you lift the heel and flex out some rail blunts BUT definitely way harder to trick without the heel locked in

I have one. made out of a piece of bamboo that was previously used as scaffolding on a construction project down the street from me. its pretty fuckin cool to lurk

Think of it this way... your uphill ski, instead of leading you in the turn will instead be 'behind you'...

That is to say, you bend your knee, and the tip trails behind your downhill ski - then you weight your uphill ski (where you bend your knee) just about equally with your downhill ski.

Let your downhill ski more or less lead you into the turn... you basically take a step forward with your downhill ski and let your uphill ski fall behind you.. but when you bend into the turn (flex and pressure the edges), you bend you knee and flex at the toe.

It's really not that difficult once you get the concept... and its really hard to describe in words... but the best part is, since you already know how to alpine, if youre learning, you can just alpine turn down the hill the whole way if you end up in a sticky spot, or get tired/frustrated.

Theres a ton of super good youtube videos for telemark.. for anyone who wants to learn the turn

I remember straight skis going to shaped ones, plastic boots, bindings with a touch of control, and the ability to carve was like... whaaaaaaaaaaaat on telemark, but when I see people telemark, it seems 95% are just horrible at it sideslipping the shit out of the skis :|

When i get going fast I can lay em over and get real low, but most times i use the skid turns

both types of turns are pretty fun tho

haha now I 100% know you actually do it.

a buddy asked me recently how I rated alpine vs telemark, alpine 2/10 for difficulty, telemark, 10 out of 10. Its just sooo much harder to do it properly, and thoose damn piles snowboarders make mixed with ice patches between on a supernarrow steep slope with tons of people, then your in heaven.... or not

my best buddy growing up ended up a ski bum, actually telemark bum, he carves SWITCH on tele, I kinda gave up tele after that.

when I was younger and stayed in the alps for longer periodes I could do alpine every day all day for 1 month straight no problem, telemark I could only do 4-5 days in a row, then I would just die
 
I’ve been trying to learn to carve but haven’t had a ton of success, I just got a pair of narrower skis so it should be easier with those. Yesterday I was skiing moguls and ended up doing a front flip and double ejected in the middle of a run, quite embarrassing
 
Tele has always been a balance between the past, present, and future. It’s just starting to happen in a more cohesive way between skiers. There are many unexplored aspects to it and that is appealing to the younger generation of telemark skiers. If you have a free mind, your heel will follow, it’s only a matter of time.

Im excited to see style become more of a part of tele skiing. For me tele turns are the sickest looking thing ever, but I feel that there is a lot of style lacking from some of the pros doing tricks on free heels. Seeing Ty Dayberry in the future free heel movies is a huge inspiration

Dayberry is awesome! Just wait till all the 18-20 year olds on teles now are doing in a few years. The style is there. Have you seen bigskytelemark on Instagram? Look at the “deeking” stuff that he does. My only issue is that I don’t have anyone to film me or a drive to promote myself through Instagram because I mainly bushwhack my way through creeks and chutes.

I like big sky telemark, his switch skiing is insane. Newschooltelemark on YouTube has some really good videos and drops his knees super deep. I have a good buddy who is a great tele skier but has no social

media :/ hoping to make a tele edit with him so we can spread the good word
 
I just recently got a pair of Liberty Helix’s. Recommend mount point is -7 but I’m considering moving forward to -5 from center. I haven’t been on tele very long so I don’t know if that’s stupid, what do you guys think?

For telemark, it helps to have your boot center closer to center, especially with twin tips. Go boot center at around -2 or -3. This will help you get a better turn radius out of your ski and it makes them more maneuverable.

Serious Question... do the mountains turn blue when the skis touch snow? Or better - do they turn blue whenever you dive into a deep tele turn?
 
So I’ve been learning new stuff on rails and boxes on my tele skis. If i dulled the edges, would it make a major impact on making tele turns? Or would it be better to tele mount some beater skis just for rails?

I was curious about this, as most tele skis appear to be mounted pretty far forward from what I’ve seen. I have a pair of Head Motörhead 102’s that I’m going to mount up, and this may also be a touring setup. Should I go around -2?
