Telemark is dope!

i just started telemarking this year and its mad hard in the beginning, but after a week or two it gets mad fun. I think it gets hated on cuz people either think its for old ski bums, cant do it, or just cuz the general telemarker doesnt wear a tall t. Im probably going to transition over full time in the next few years

Really ??? It just seems like the bindings are too loose for any backcountry cliffs or big air, is it better for your knees or where is the big benefit ? Thanks for any help understanding, I'm not against the tele I just don't know much about it.

I saw a guy at tele-ing on snowblades on Bridger's closing day a few days ago, he was killing it, shit was out of control

tele is siiiick. most of the guys that i ski with that tele have never looked back to alpine. makes me real tempted to get a touring setup

its not a +/- thing, tele is just the original form of skiing, and alot of people prefer the telemark turn. for me, its just a more natural, free form of skiing

telemark is an inferior way to ski. It puts more stress on your knees, is physically harder to do, limits your ability to ski hard and aggressive, and forces you to eat lots of granola, smoke lots of weed, and love the environment a little too much. But from an aesthetic POV many people prefer it.

tele skiing has two benefits when you really break it down, and both of them have to do with the difference of turning. with tele skis you can get way lower while doing your turn. the lower you get to the ground, the closer your center of gravity is to the ground, and so the more stable you are. the other thing is, when you do a tele turn your running length of edge almost doubles during the turn, which really helps as well.

I don't like tele skiing, and in tight situations, don't really like being around tele skiers. because of the aforementioned benefits I find it takes a lot away from their flow down the fall line. I find that they have the tendency to make random turns often shooting out in front of me unexpectedly. I still ski with them, I just keep a wide berth when skiing down on the same slope as them.

stable- i like to have some resistance to going over the bars. and when tele skiers try to rip through chop or bumps conditions they rarely make tele turns because they will get bucked if they are in a lunge position(a very weak position). tele skiing puts you in a weak position: where are you stronger? a lunge or a half squat?

basically it comes down to the aesthetic aspects of it that people enjoy.

yeah, i don't know... I think tele is stupid myself. fix the heal, fix the problem.

I was trying to give tele the benefit of the doubt, but you're right.

The first part of your post is way off. Alpine puts more stress on your cartalige while tele puts stress on your muscles. Which can you strengthen?

the anatomical position that you are strongest in, is the one that will prevent injury. You are many times stronger in an aggressive alpine stance than in a a lunge.

stressful on the knees- not really

physically harder to do - not really

limits your ability to ski hard and aggressive - see the link i posted

forces you to eat granola - stereotype

smoke alot of weed - bad thing?

love the environment too much - bad thing?

try again
