Tele Skiers: Need Help

So I'm thinking of getting my first Tele setup and I need some help. For starters, I'm 6'1 and 170lbs. I ski really aggressively and I like my skis in between 180 and 190 in length. When looking for Tele skis, should I go a little shorter? I would imagine that having skis with a smaller turn radius would be ideal for Tele turns.

Also, where is the best mounting point for Tele bindings?

Thanks for the help, +K for good answers

I ski on 190s. I tele'd on 180s. I found that longer radius skis were easier to skid my tele turns around on.

Tele makes my knees hurt, so I don't do it anymore. But I can still bust out a mad tele turn on XC gear when I want to.

Hey. I disagree about length, just ski the same length you normally would. As far as mounting points, its more dependent on ski design. I would usually say I mount back 2cm from where I'd mount a ski for similar use with alpine bindings. Most significant decision you have to make is probably bindings/boots.

Mount from ball of the foot on center to pin line on center depending on preference and ski design. In general if you get really low and ski allot of deep pow go back. If you have a modern taller stance and ski switch allot go forward.

If you're mounting a tua crossride with three pin bindings in 1998, absolutely. If you're mounting any modern ski and want it to perform well, just mount it like you would an alpine ski; boot center on the recommended line or thereabouts.

As for bindings I would suggest 22designs vice (if you aren't touring). Pretty bomber and good quality for the money (like $220 msrp). As far as mounting point goes, as others have said, it depends on the ski. A "modern traditional" mount would be to put your tele boot center 1-2cm back from the recommended alpine line, and a "progressive" mount would be to put the tele boot center right on the alpine boot center line. It really is all personal preference.... and voodoo, lots of voodoo, you might want to sacrifice a chicken or something before making your final decision. HAHAHA.

Read this:http://absolutetelemark.com/mount-binding-telemar/

You'll see what I mean when I said "voodoo" there really is no set rule or true industry standard for tele mounting points.
