Technical (water-repellent) hoodies worth it?

Does anyone have any first hand experience with said type of hoodies? I want to know of they are worth a shot (not only for spring skiing).

For spring skiing they're just fine, you just don't want to wear them when there's precip.

Arc'teryx hyllus hoodie. It may not be the new school style, but it is the one of the most technical hoodies you will find. Keeps me pretty dry even when it's raining. Plus it's pretty damn warm

Downside: costs $375.... Glad I work at a mountaineering shop

I always just wear an extra hoodie underneath for warmth/dryness but they really work well in most weather aslong as you have some warm layers underneath for those cold days!

You really need to make sure your hoodie is some kind of higher end material for this though. It doesnt need to be water resistant or anything for a hoodie to be a good base layer, but if you go with a hoodie you pick up at wal-mart its going to make you colder in the long run. Example, the Saga riding hoodies are made from full poly so they breath a little better and are not as cold when they get damp with sweat.

Your hoodie isnt a base layer, its maybe two to three layers from your skin. I've been to New Hampshire, nice place ...and cold as fuck.

Maybe its just me but I dont sweat THAT much.

Good, point, its not the layer touching your skin, but it is a mid layer. If the sweat gets to it that will cause issues regardless of what layer its at though.

The only hoodie that will function as a jacket would is a shell hoodie. There are a few pullover shells out there so if that's what you desire, I'd go for that. You won't regret it, that much I can guarantee you- technical shells are the shit and there is no going back.

Try this. Not sure if it's your style but it's a pretty sick piece for not that much considering what it does for you. Look great in the park AND have adults and shit telling you they like your hoodie. (ebay, etc has the same thing for cheaper but idk if you have an account)
