Tech nine or academy?

So im in the market for a new snowboard this winter. and i am torn between the Tech Nine womens jib or an academy board >>>??????

lets hear your thoughts>

i wouldnt go with either, both companies are are the brink of bankrupcy, i dont trust eithers product, i have seen so many of ech simply fall apart.

^worf's right, those companies are on the verge of going under, but they're both rider-owned and -operated companies, so they need all the support they can get!

that said, if you want a quality product, you may want to look elsewhere. if you want an inexpensive soft park board (similar to a technine jib) look at the capita saturnia. it's basically a women's version of the capita stairmaster, which i rode last year and was super stoked on.

check out some of the endeavors. or unity Unity is such a quality comp out of jackson hole. i am not against tech nine or academy it is just with the state they are in if you have any issues(warrenty), they might not be able to get adressed and as i said any one i know tghat rode any tech nine has always had issues in that department.

technines to me always reminded me of the timmy boy line:

Tommy: Let's think about this for a sec, Ted, why would somebody put a guarantee on a box? Hmmm, very interesting.

Ted Nelson, Customer: Go on, I'm listening.

Tommy: Here's the way I see it, Ted. Guy puts a fancy guarantee on a box 'cause he wants you to fell all warm and toasty inside.

Ted Nelson, Customer: Yeah, makes a man feel good.

Tommy: 'Course it does. Why shouldn't it? Ya figure you put that little box under your pillow at night, the Guarantee Fairy might come by and leave a quarter, am I right, Ted?

[chuckles until he sees that Ted is not laughing too[/i]]

Ted Nelson, Customer: [impatiently[/i]] What's your point?

Tommy: The point is, how do you know the fairy isn't a crazy glue sniffer? "Building model airplanes" says the little fairy; well, we're not buying it. He sneaks into your house once, that's all it takes. The next thing you know, there's money missing off the dresser, and your daughter's knocked up. I seen it a hundred times.

Ted Nelson, Customer: But why do they put a guarantee on the box?

Tommy: Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of shit. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for now, for your customer's sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality product from me.

Ted Nelson, Customer: [pause[/i]] Okay, I'll buy from you.

well my good freind has a tech nine board....the ltd jib... and he says its his favorite he has ever rode before.....but he has gone through 3 of em.....the warrenty works out pretty good here.....i was a little wary on that...but i took into consideration that im not nearly the hardcore rider he is...

i dunno...

again 3 boards??? yeah they have a warrenty but then you have to ship it back wait till they ship you another. i ratgher have a board that lasts and i can ride it all season, i cant handle that down time. again back to the tommy boy quote i can take a shit in a box and slap a gaurentee on it or you could buy a quality product. and the other point if they go out of business and you get a warrentee issue good luck.

(i am the kid that broke all those boards) the down time was less than a week. i could usually get it sent on a monday and have the new one before the weekend. to me thats kickass warranty. i also havent herd anything about them gettin ready to fall through but i also havent done much research. and as far as there boards breaking, im pretty sure as long as someone keeps buying the bottom line boards they r goin to break much easier since there made with cheaper materials, no matter the company. hence why all the expensive boards are usually tons stiffer.

but as far as academy, dont know anything. didnt see many decks this year in the buyers guide which to me can only mean that there almost on there last straw...

a week 3 times that would be three weeks of the season. here in the mid atlantic that could be the entire season. plus fuck tech nine they fire sprowls now my boy lost his hook up for the 3rd year in a row!!!!

hes saying he gets it back by the weekend...meaning he never misses any days to shred. im pretty sure im going to go with the tech nine board...you sound a little bias in your thoughts about the company anyways. but thanks for the input

well if you only ride weekends i suppose that works! and my first comments are before i found out about my buddies rep getting fired that just happened. my by was supposed to get a full paid hookup from tech nine(he wasnt going to ride their boards just bindings and outer wear) but then the rep was let go and again he gets fucked. any way if you want to buy a peice of shit board go for it dont say i didnt warn you.

have u ever ridden a technine board or r u sayin they suck cuz ur friend got the boot? if u've never ridden the product then why comment? u sound like ur tryin to get back at the company but not a actual product analysis. as for me ive ridden multiple things from there line and had never ridden any better company. this company is def my fall back if i ever find someone elses prody i dont like.

If you ride a flexy board hard its going to break garaunteed, its got a soft core. Sounds like Technine has a good warranty and I havn't heard anything about them being on the brink.

i have already said my comments were made before i found out about my boy getting the shaft. any way, no i havent ridden a tech nine board cause i would just snap it in half, you have admitted yourself that you broke 3 last year. 3 boards in the same season, and you only ride weekends. sounds liek a quality product to me.

i have not personnaly ridden a tech nine board but everyone i know who has has eiothe rbsnaped it de lammed it or blew an edge out. so as for product anaylisis i say they are cheap peices of shit. again i rather ride a great board that holds up then 1 i have to send back 3 times great warranty or not! but that is just my opinion! i have only been riding for 20+ years now what do i know

i never said i ride just weekends. plus thats not the only deck in my quiver, so while my boards being shipped away i still got other shit to ride. BUT as far as my best riding boards( as far as feel, edge response, pop, and so on) those are my all time fav to ride. sure there cheaper ones have flaws, but so do all cheap boards( cheap as in bottom line), there not designed to get years out of, there designed for newbs that dont get more then 10 days in a year or the park rat who always need a cheap replacement that there not disappointed with. and being i needed the cheap replacement, i was always happy to ship in the broken deck cuz i knew every time i get a new deck its goin to have a fresh life span! always poppy, always responsive! who could be dissapointed about that. so in the end if u buy a park board thinkin its goin to last a whole season( thats if u actually ride it like u should) ur crazy, so having a comapany thatl back u up imidietly makes it worth buying the company's prody. imo.

oh and just for the record.

i wrote technine's sales rep about where to find the board i was looking for (because i couldnt find it online anywhere). and they wrote me back with a killer deal from the warehouse, with bindings. i thought that was pretty ligit of them.

ive broken a ride kink and my friend has broken 2 or 3. now is that saying ride makes shit boards? no its not, all it means is that we are both hard on boards and any time your in the park you risk breaking one. im pretty sure you could find someone who has broken a board for every company there is

agreed. cuz ur ridin it the way its ment to be ridden. just cuz u break a board doesnt make it a bad board. its all about the way it feels...

actually yeah i would say that ride make s shitty boards (or actually K2) cause thats all that ride is.

again what do i know i have only been in the game since oh say 89 do what you like who am i to stop you

so your trying to say if anyone on this site says they broke a board (or ski) then that company makes shit boards. every board is breakable and if you are hard on your stuff, your bound to break one. i have yet to hear of a company where not a single one of their boards has broken. to me, it sounds like you have a very biased opinion on companies

lib tech or anything mervin for that matter, unity, endeavor, rome, DC, volkl (yes its K2 but still press in germany, arbor, santa cruz, nitro, capita (those top sheet delames were a fault of one press of boards which were about 1200 that went out that wernt press properly but capita actual;ly recalled them ), omatic. just to name a few.

my first advice would be to stick with mervin though

well unfortunetly i know kids that have broken some libtechs, so i guess that would make them a shit company too. time to get rid of my banana hammock...
