Team USA Freeskiing Outerwear for olympics?

You know how burton always does the snowboarding team outerwear? How nuts would it be if some small company steps up and gets the sponsorship, like saga
 
itd be sick to see Armada get the bid, but i could see it going to someone like North Face easily.
 
So, on a slightly side note, Slopestyle did not make it in? If so, what a bummer, I was stoked to see countries go head to head in something like that.

where it said tnf represented recreational park skiers, how does it compared to many other companies? they've only been spanzerising freeskiers for this year.
 
although not everyone would wear the xl saga or what ever... they could customise size wouldn't they. they wouldn't get simon dumont to wear a small jacket but probs wouldn't get bode miller to wear a 12XL

as long as they don't make pants that are supposed to look like jeans they'll be ok.. i know it wasn't for park skiing but still.. wtf was up with that
 
Freeskiing is free because the best things for the heart and soul of this sport by nature never make money.

No matter how big the Olympics blow this sport up, there will always be some kid out there learning mute grabs for the first time off shitty jumps on flat tailed race skis. If that lights up the world to you like it did for me and always since, freeskiings essence lives on.
 
Word. There's all this irrational fear around skiing undergoing some massive change as a result of the Olympics, and it's bs. Kids are still going to want to have fun, and the same kids who gravitate towards freeskiing out of a reluctance or disinterest in competition and/or team sports are still going to ski out of a love for the "sport". All that changes is that the jocky kids who ski have an even greater pinnacle to aspire to. (this post ignores potential commercial/industry changes as I don't give a shit if some jibber kid has a decreased chance at making money skiing)
 
honestly I don't understand the hate on North Face. They had Sage and other guys before and had them doing alot of design work for the products, then they brought on Twall and the gang and did the same thing. They aren't on any sort of campaign to change freeskiing, they're just looking for their market share. None of those guys changed anything about their appearance or skiing other than the logo on the jacket. They are throwing money at our sport to have it grow, they aren't telling us how to grow it, they just want it to grow.

I can understand the FIS/USSA hate, yeah the USSA rules have been pretty BS and the judging whack for a number of years. Hopefully they will write a brand new rulebook for all disciplines, which is probably going to happen since they already took all of the invert/off axis qualifications out of slope, took away all restrictions on pipe other than no dubs at the junior level, and for aerials(closest thing to big air) we don't have to call our tricks if we don't want to.

US Snowboarding did a good job and I assume that US freeskiing will take a page out of their book.
 
I was thinking the exact same thing. I really don't see Dumont (or his agents, or Oakley) digging being forced to wear something different. Anyone know if Olympic athletes are obligated to wear the "uniform"?

look at louie vito for example (686 rider), he was able to wear the burton u.s. snowboard suit during the competition
 
They will wear the TNF uniform. If I was Oakley's brand manager I would give up simon wearing some TNF cloths for the international coverage of him standing there wearing Oakley goggles with big Oakley stickers on his skis. But that is just me.

The ONLY thing that I have a problem with about TNF sponsoring is that now every other person in my town will think they're the shit because they have a North Face sweater thing. That are actually pretty ugly. Haha. Other than that I think it's pretty cool.

even oakley goggle straps have to be re-designed to meet IOC branding guidelines that limit the size and placement of any logo

Yeah, that makes sense, especially given this specific example, but I was honestly curious about the "rules" of it all. There are athletes/sponsors obviously who will not be in the position that Oakley/Simon is, and I was just wondering if it's a mandatory situation. Not saying I have an opinion one way or the other.
 
This is what I was looking for...very interesting. Sort of ironic that on the biggest possible stage/largest exposure brands/sponsors will be the least visible.
