Teach for America

Has anyone on here done it, or know people who have? I've been thinking about it, but can't find out any real world info on it besides what is on their website.

Do not do it. I know enough people who have done it to be able to tell you definitely do not do it. You will be sent to a shitty school in a really shitty area and be used as slave labor for extremely low wages. You will hate children, hate education, and hate yourself for doing it. Results may vary, but this is the overwhelming majority.

If you want a similar program, look into the JET program, where you teach English in Japan. You will make significantly more than Teach for America and your everyday teaching environment will be much, much better.

What cities did your friends do the program in? Just out of curiosity.

Everyone tells me Teach for America just isn't worth it. My sister is a JET in Nagasaki right now teaching, she isn't too keen about it but if you get a good location it should be fun, I guess it varies for both.
