Tattoos + cuts?

Alright, so the other night one of my friends brought up this question. When you have a tattoo and get a cut, what happens? like how deep is the ink to where you don't need to get it touched up?

this may be a dumb question but i have no plans on getting a tattoo so i have no idea about them

the cut has to be pretty deep i think ive had a few cuts on some of mine but only one u can see
