Tattoo idea feedback

Hey, I'm gonna get a tat soon for my brother who killed himself when I was younger, and I'm just looking for some feedback. Some background: my dad is catholic and my mom is buddhist, in the catholic religion they believe you go to hell if you kill yourself so fuck that shit, and buddhists believe in reincarnation. I was thinking about getting an angel standing over a castle balcony looking off into clouds that fade into space (heaven) and his initials underneath and date of death, this would all go on my back. Im thinking of going with more of a darker angel, hooded or whatnot because of the suicide. People do not turn into angels when they die, so the angel would just represent my bros messenger contemplating whatever my brother decides in his afterlife (reincarnation, wandering, heaven and so on). These are just some random thoughts about what I hope the afterlife is like.

I dunno, what do you think? Could turn out gay, but if done right I think it would be a cool memorial tattoo. Any ideas or suggestions? At first I was thinking about getting a catholic tattoo for him, because thats what we were raised as, but I don't think it would be right because catholics think you go to hell for suicide.

honestly dude that sounds really cool and i'm so sorry about your loss but i think that would be a very cool way of remembering him.
my only suggestion is to give the hooded angel some big serious wings maybe to symbolize his powerful spirit? just an idea. I think it could really turn out awesome

I know man, I'm not a complete retard haha. I'm just trying to get as much feedback as possible from different places because this is going to be permanent.

really look around for a good tattoo artist with a style you like. Shop around and get some major sketches drawn up. this is obviously important to you.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Not that I'm saying I can imagine what you went through, but if it were me personally, I would leave religion out of it entirely and get something that just reminds me of my brother. If it was my brother, I would probably get a guitar pick, or something like that to remind me.
I've never seen a nice tattoo that had someone's name and the dates they were born/died, but this is your body and your memorial to your bro. Obviously you dont agree with catholicism, so I wouldn't base my design around what they do or do not believe. Whatever you believe is what you should do, don't let your parents influence you it's not about them.
Good luck, and be sure to post some pics after you decide

i'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that, from reading his post, he's getting something that is meaningful to him.

but i'm sure he's grateful for the cookie cutter "what do you think about my tattoo idea" response. really helped him there with that one.

well. whatever you interpret is your business. if your brother wasn't religious i wouldn't do it, but it does sound like a great idea. my brother died 4 yrs ago and i've been thinking a lot about it. he was really into mythology so i'm going to get the world tree from norse mythology on my leg or somewhere one day. i don't think you need to put the date...i wouldn't. it's a good idea, like i said. i personally like to incorporate things about people if i get commemorative tattoos, but yeah. if you wanna do portrait style, make sure you shop hard for a good artist. that's key. your artist should also think your idea is neat, that way they have more creativity when creating it. save up! and good luck.

whatever you do don't go to some shitty artist. you could have the best idea in the world but have it fucked by a shitty tattoo artist. make sure you find one you like and who does good work. if you know anywhere near maine i know a place.

this and make sure you look through their work....Can't always tat what you can draw ya know. Love the idea man. and I like the wings idea that ^ guy up there said

very cool idea and im gald u r getting one with some meaning behind it. but y dont u got with both dark and light angel (one on the right and one on the left looking down towards the middle of your back) and then put ur brothers names or intials along with the date he died in between them. just an idea.

that sounds sick and i like the hooded angel idea. my dad died over the summer and i want to get hibiscus flowers in black and white because to me they represent peace. obviously black and white would represent the memorial and then have the quote he said running thru it. theres another tattoo thread shuffling around. i hear different opinions on the flower idea cuz most people that get a hibiscus flower
