they didn't buy them. they bought their leases which gives them the right to the zeller real estate. most of these properties are owned by rio can REIT. a large trust which focuses on retail property.

 
Zellers is such a joke anyways. I do wish the Hudson`s Bay Co. would get bought back by a Canadian company again and drop the cheesy name `The Bay`and just call all the stores The Hudson`s Bay Company.
