The boys at www.twintipnation.com sent me a copy of this press release. For the few of us that do both skiing and snowboarding this is huge. Here is the press release.

Dear Friend ,

After much contemplation Taos Ski Valley has decided to open our slopes to snowboarding beginning March 19, 2008. It is in the adventurous spirit of Ernie and Rhoda Blake we welcome the challenges and anticipate the opportunities that this decision implies. While there are many reasons why we have chosen this season to make such a significant change to our company’s policy the foremost factor is we feel simply that it is time.

For several seasons the debate has been more directed as to “when” rather than “if” snowboarding would be permitted at Taos Ski Valley. It has been the opinion of the Blake Family and TSV’s management that the timing was critical. Let us emphasize that this decision is the result of careful planning and consideration. We recognize many challenges that will result from this decision but feel ultimately it will benefit Taos Ski Valley, Inc., its employees and the community at large.

It is the goal of the Blake family and current management to continue the legacy of Taos Ski Valley. Equally to take care of you, our devoted staff and loyal friends, who for so long have helped us take care of our Mountain and the Taos Ski Valley legacy. We ask you to join us as Taos Ski Valley, Inc. transitions into the future with its spirit and ideals firmly rooted in the past.

Cordially,

Alejandro, Adriana and Mickey

BASTARDS!

Ernie is pissed, but i think segregation sucks

isn't there a third still? beaver creek or deer valley? i'm pretty sure it's a furry woodland thing you would find on a map.

Twin Tip Nation supports Taos Ski Valley in their decision and respect their right to operate their business as they see fit.

As we are an exclusive freestyle and freeride twin tip ski company we embrace everyone that loves winter sports.

Many in our freeski community ride both twin tips skis and snowboards. The owners of Twin Tip Nation wish Taos continued success in the spirit of its founders who created one of the most incredible ski areas in North America. Lets go Taos!

I have no idea why they were not allowed in the first place. Sounds like a bunch of crusty old bastards that run those places.

Fine with me, but if BURTON tries to take credit for it by attributing it to his shitty contest I will be pissed.

agreed honestly if they wanted to do it they should have done it right not by riding down the hills being assholes and pissing everyone off. if anything that contest would make more resorts close to snowboarders

i think if anything they might loose money from all the staunchy old rich skier bastards that will take their rich asses and SUV's to somewhere they can talk about the good old days of straight skis and slaves on plantations, honestly i think this move by taos is more about not segregating people who love the outdoors and snowsport, as a family mountain they don't wanna turn away families with kids who want to ride

the right time is when snowboarding is still growing and they can make a shit load more money

There is a lot of excitment here over this. Opening day should be interesting. The catwalk on the front side that takes you back to the base area is very narrow and a cliff off one side. If you catch an edge you could die. The catwalk on the backside is flat. Three miles of flat. I skate it, but I wonder how the snowboarders are going to handle it.

They'll probably handle it the same as they do at the 10000 other resorts that have things like narrow cat tracks and flat ski-outs.
