Taos/Santa Fe

So a friend and I decided to go ski Taos for two days (tomorrow and Thursday). We're car camping it in Santa Fe tonight. Neither of us know jack shit about Santa Fe or Taos. I was wondering if any NSers had any insight on the area (regarding things that are not skiing. eg nightlife).

Just keep in mind

a) We are both 18

b) Pretty poor / frugal

Any advice or direction would be very appreciated.

(Before anyone makes the ill-sighted statement "Post in regionals", there are no regionals for New Mexico and the West/Centeral hardly receive any traffic.)

I live in the Albuquerque area but as far as I know there's not really that much night life in Santa fe or Taos. so idk hot springs or check out the gorge.

There might be stuff to do in espanola but that place is sketchy as fuck after dark, especially if you're white.

My roommate is from taos and i've spent a few weeks down there with him. Not much to do at night. check out the Guadalajara grill for cheap awesome food.

I'm going to school you in a few, stay tuned.

p.s. the guad is NOT cheap by any definition of mexican/new mexican food.

OP....whatever the fuck you do......DO NOT HANG OUT IN Yola. Think twice before gassing up in that shit hole.

Taos is shitty for night life, especially during the week, not during xmas or spring break. However, Eske's is cool, The OBL is cool, The Alley Cantina off the plaza gets live and is probably the best spot to send it deep and overshoot the landing. The Anaconda bar at El Monte Sagrado is swanky, nice, but pricey. By far the best place to meet vacationers with dough, though. Play up the ski bum role, tell a story or two, and you'll probably end up getting drinks picked up by some rich ass hole who wants to feel legitimized.

FOOD! You HAVE to have a smothered breakfast burrito with xmas chile at The Taos Diner. People will tell you to go to Michael's or Gutiz and you tell them to go fuck themselves! If you go to Taos Diner (it's in arroyo hondo just north of Taos proper en route to TSV) ask for the owner's Annie or Jay, or the server Kristen and tell them Gunther and Chris say hello and sent you.

Someone mentioned the Guad, and the food there is excellent, lots of cilantro on everything and roasted chiles galore, but it's sort of pricey for what it is. If you're truly BOB (ballin on a budget) go to the El Taoseno. It is a greasy spoon for NM food. Get an enchilada plate and sopapillas and honey. It used to be a bowling alley, and on Fridays 75 year old Spanish couples dress up like matador/cowboy hybrids and dance. It's great. Little less hostile to whitey's there but be respectful.

If you're tired of NM food, go to Dara Thai and get the evil jungle princess.

If you like coffee, go to WIRED cafe....it's amazing. It's like a fucking green house, wifi cafe, awesome building, good coffee. Mondo is alright, a lot of people like world cup, but I like wired.

GO TO THE BEEF JERKY STAND!!!! FUCKING DO IT. It's just south of Mickey D's and the Plaza, on the west side of the street, right by a tattoo parlor (not Talisman, the ghetto looking one before it).

If you don't wanna pay for lodging, stay at the Abominable Snowman in Arroyo Seco, it's 3 miles from TSV and it's a hostile. You WILL meet freaky hippies, and you WILL be offered psychedelic drugs. There's a great coffee/tea place in Seco real close to the hostile, forget the name, but it's rad. Taos Cow ice cream also in Seco is tits and there's lil biddies working it.

I could go on and on, so if you need anything, PM me.

hahahaha, that's great. The place is good, but definitely a little expensive. There's also 2 guads.....south side and northside. southside is more touristy, north is more locals.

OP.....you're fucking 18!? Jesus christ. Night life? There aren't any gosh darn youth clubs, dude. Your night life should be paying a bum at the LQ in Hondo to get you a bottle, and getting high in kit carson park. Go to Santa Fe to hang out, there's a few colleges, and plenty of places to hang out and meet ladies.

You are the man! Thank you for taking to time to right such a well tailored guide.

We were chilling in Santa Fe last night and we just were not feeling it. Ended up car camping on Abiquiu Lake. Taos seems like a nice town compared to Santa Fe. Gonna car camp it here, grill some cheap food, and hit up that Cafe. If any NSers are in Taos send me a pm. We're looking for some good company

just realize that everything food wise WILL have loads of green chile on top. one thing I love about NM haha

If only we had money! We've been grilling applebutter and cheese sandwhiches ontop of some random desert shrub for food.

It's all good though. We both go to school in Durango. The town with the only mcdonalds in the country to serve green chile.

Dude....the mc d's in taos 100% has green Chile cheeseburgers, haha. To say I know from personal experience would be like saying downey jr. Knows a thing or two about hookers and blow.

I wish i had seen this sooner, i live in Taos. gaud is yummy and taos is in the middle of know where so foods a little more pricey compared to other places, the taos dinner is totally the best place to have breakfast red and green for sure. But i hope you both had a wonderful time visiting and should visit again.

The Nightlife in Santa Fe is actually pretty good. Go to the Santa Fe Plaza and there are a few bars you should be able to get into plus their are some 18 to enter clubs there too.
