Tanner Hall did not qualify

I totally agree that we can't write him off for this. He has no need to win X, so if he wasn't feeling 100% then honestly why bother.

Getting hurt would take away from the true end goal.

Bro, you're not too old. I'm 26. You're getting old for park maybe. Realize this though, there is never an age limit on skiing powder, which is FAR superior to riding some sort of ice stunt ditch.

He does if he wants to win. It's a competition.

DOn't get me wrong I think that it was a smart move if he wasn't feeling it but you gotta be realistic here.

He tore his ACL last year. Stoked that Simon is back as well.

By the way,

GO T! That post made my fucking day!

Yea, but it's not like the rest of the US guys are just sitting around waiting for Tanner to get back to %100, they're out there killing it.

We're getting closer and closer to the Olympics, and he's going to need to step it up before it's too late

tanners not old, he's just fucked his body. early to mid 30's is supposed to be your prime in sports so long as you havent fucked your body from injuries. so no excuses!

yea im sure guys in there 30's could win gold but the reason it dosent happen is because in a sport like this, by that age your beat to hell.

rad, this is not baseball, in freeskiing kids are winning halfpipe comps at 16. The fact that tanner even qualified for x at almost 30 years old after all these injuries is fucking amazing. I agree im bummed he didnt throw a crzy run. im a bit sceptic about his comeback, but if anyone can prouve us wrong its tanner

so well just have to wait and see!!!

yeah i mean for a guy like tanner who's been in it for so long, injuries are almost unavoidable, its gotta be hard as hell for someone to ski pipe or slope competitively for close to 10 years and not have multiple bad injuries. but if injuries arent a factor, your early to mid 30's are supposed to be your peak physically and especially mentally. just not many people make it that long because they push so hard early in their career.

i dunno if tanner will ever be able to overcome his injuries, but if he can, the guy could easily be back to winning major pipe comps.

Is it just me or has Tanner seemed a lot more humble than the Tanner of several years ago?

Here's a guy who may have never skied again who came back and "although he didn't double" still skied at a professional level. Good for him. It looks like he's out there having fun, and isn't that why anyone skis?

That is competition man. Some days your stoked and on a roll with tough tricks and some days are rough. The fact he was out there after not being in the park for awhile is a handicap. The next contest is up for grabs and Im excited to see the next show.

All of the guys put on an awesome show for us all!

Sure, and while you're at it, fuck the haters who call all the other skiers gymnasts. (by the way, while we're on that note, who's the one who's been releasing trampoline edits full of gymnastics moves for the last year and a half?)

You being a dick ain't no better than the "haters" being dicks, dick.

Watching the Day 1 edit Schmuck and eHeath put up, I was very impressed with Tanner's great attitude regarding todays result. He is just humbled and grateful to get two runs down the pipe, and be able to ski again tomorrow!

would have been cool to see such a legend return but it would be very difficult to regain all his abiliies and advance with the sport.

I loved how when you lost, you just shrugged it off. Meanwhile we got fucking Simon Dumont who probably would've had a temper tantrum.

In NSTV he said he had just tried his first dub 12 in PC last week and realized he needed to do alot more work to compete in the pipe... Give him some time, if tanner stays cautiously conservative, which he's never done, we will see him compete in pipe for the next 3-5 years.

honestly, fuck everyone's expectations of what they expect to see out of Tanner, what he throws, where he places, and how well he does.

After an exhausting recovery, he's BACK doing what he loves. It is truly inspiring seeing Tanner back in the game. I don't care if he's throwing basic stock tricks or strings of dubs down the pipe. Just you being back speaks for itself...Much love man

More talented skiers?

When one of those younger guys can produce the sort of big mountain segments Tanner can we will talk. None of those guys are in his league anywhere except the pipe/park.

I would have loved to see him come back. It would be nice to see people like him and Candide, guys who are dominant all-around, compete in the x-games.

I mean dumont has had some of the gnarliest crashes in skiing ever and he has come back from those. Didn't he fuck both his hands at dew too? He made finals and no one has given him any props what so ever. yeaaaaa dumont!

inb4 cocky ass bitch slut

I met Tanner and Simon last night before their practise session. Tanner was happy and confident and was so nice. Simon was as nice as the last time I met him but he was SUPER nervous. He almost looked scared. He was walking along the athletes' road with his mum (I think).

because who the fuck are you? seriously. who the fuck are you to call out fucking tanner hall? don't you see how beyond belief stupid that sounds?

really sucks, i was hoping to see all the canadian boys kill it, especially noah and riddle, i wanted to see tanner in there as well, im sure he had something up his sleve

Props to Simon for coming back and making it though, pretty stoked to see both athletes that got me into skiing in the first place back at a professional level.

I didn't see any of the X games today but regardless of his placement (or lack there of) T HALL is still and forever will be the man.

-inb4 all over his dick

The dude is doing everyone in the field a huge favor competing when he isn't 100% and likely won't qualify since there aren't really big names in the sport like him and him competing raises the exposure of the event no matter what. Its the same thing as Tiger Woods playing in a golf tournament, doesn't matter if he shoots 80 and misses the cut him showing up makes people more likely to pay attention.

T Hall is the man.

Definitely a valid argument, but that has nothing to do with my point. My point was based around the idea that its simply in current competition it isn't necessary to go off for Tanner.

Improvement and training happens in halfpipes everywhere, so if it wasn't T's day then fuck it. He's got enough X-games gold medals around his neck that one more isn't going to make/break his career. Any of the other guys who are still fighting for recognition are forced to go for it on X-games qualification day, regardless of how they are feeling.

If you were Tanner, and your goal was Olympics - then the X-games qualification day is only another day in the pipe. I'm sure it would be awesome for optics if he won it all that day - but not necessary. If he's being careful about injuries then he wouldn't want to push it on a day where he's off... whether X gold is on the line or not. As far as I know, X doesn't even count towards Olympics qualification. (fact check this but I'm pretty sure I'm right)

Tanner is a brilliant competition strategist. So sure you can cast doubt in a poor X-games performance, but by no means keep it as a main point of data that he's finished. He might just be fucking with all of us, or simply playing it super safe until its go time.

This was super refreshing for me, what he said and how he said it directly portrays the way I view skiing. It's all about the turns and being out there another day, if you're on skis you're doing it right
