Tanner Hall did not qualify

He didnt even try ? After years of talking shit about coming back strong into the pipe he didnt even throw a double, or any other tech tricks that could get him to finals. I was super disappointed by his performance, it looked like something out of 2007. To all of those who thought he might make it to the olympics I guess its pretty clear that it was just a pipe dream.

My advice Tanner: either give it 100% effort to actually qualify, or dont talk shit for like 3 years straight.

Yeah seriously, chill the fuck out dude. Why don't you try coming back from the injuries he's had to come back from and then we can talk.

i really don't think anyone should be surprised. tanner was definitely a pioneer, but the sport has advanced so much in just the last few years.

regarding him "talking shit", unless you've met the guy don't judge him. i had the privilege of skiing with him in Whistler back in 2002-2003 when he was at the top of his game and all i can say is that he is a super nice dude.

i hope that he can find his place in the industry again, whether it is working with Oakley or Armada, or doing broadcasting or judging for comps.

Ya Im not a pro skier who talks a lot of shit about younger and more talented skiers. I wouldnt care if he didnt say that the olympics and x games was important to him, and if he didnt hate on his own team USA teammates.

tanner is done man. Too old, too many injuries. He threw the best tricks he could and at the end of both runs he came down shaking his head. He knows it's just not enough.

Dude will always be a legend.

Its not even what Ive mentioned above, but also the fact that he didnt even throw tricks that if stomped perfectly would qualify him. Thats what I dont understand.

He threw his first run, landed smooth, but not huge air and pretty stock tricks. He got scored a 67 or something. Then his next run, he was not qualified and needed to step up to make finals and threw the exact same run (if im not mistaken), which he must have known had a 0% chance of making it . If he s not gonna push himself, or even try his best to make the finals, he really shouldnt compete at all .... let alone talk shit.

What does that have to do with you lecturing him for not trying a double? Tanner knows that qualifying for the olympics is not going to be easy and he has said as much in recent interviews; he certainly does not need the advice that you so kindly provided for him in your first post. He was hating on Walter Wood too, who is probably a turd.

did you really expect him to do well against the younger kids these days? i mean its cool he's trying but realistically he doesnt stand a chance in halfpipe anymore

Damn. Tanner is only 29. I'm almost 26. Makes me think my freestyle career is gonna be over before it started. Not that I want to go pro or anything, but I'm getting "old" for the sport.

Speaking of talking shit everyone look at this guy. Calling the kettle black much? Tanner has suffered not one, but two injuries that would have ended a lesser skiers career. The fact he is even dropping into a pipe is insane. And I have no idea where you are getting this talking shit idea from. Tanner has stated he will be returning to pipe with the intention to win, idk why else anyone would compete. Post one article or video of him actually talkimg shit and I'll gladly join your bandwagon. Till then step aside and leave the skiing to the professionals.

Well Walter Wood and TYW who is arguably the best young freeskier in the game and a cool guy. and I just expect more out of Tanner. Its not even about the dubs, if he had boosted high or linked together technical single inverts of greater difficulty he might have a chance. It just sucks that on his second run he seemed like he didnt even care, and went super conservative when he knew he was gonna lose. He took the spot of someone who might actually try something new, push themselves and make finals.

Tanner exuded the most style. As he always has. He is incredibly fluid and there is something to be said for that.

There was a huge exchange on twitter a few months ago, where he was completely talking down to Torin Yater Wallce, Walter Wood , and other members of the US freeski team. He constantly rants hate all over the internet, and calls out people for all sorts of shit, so why cant I call him out for not pushing himself (or really even attempting to make finals) after years of openly wanting to compete in the olympics and the x games.

I was rooting for Riddle. I was pissed when he fell at the end of his second run. It was the last hit!!

Fair enough, but he did qualify for this year's x games by putting up some legit results so it's not like there was a long line of kids that deserved to be there over him. He won that event in NZ and he was what 6th at the dew tour? He would probably love to be throwing dubs but even though his runs look effortless, I would bet that his pipe comeback has already taken a huge toll on his body.

I am just wondering why he even wants to compete anymore when he could just film vid parts. He has the opportunity to travel to exotic places, ski new lines, and basically do what ever he wants while skiing. While in the comp scene you travel to a few major resorts, ski the exact same halfpipe, and you need to plan your days by their schedule. I bet he does realize this, considering how much pow he already ripped this season while the jocks were training pipe every single day.

He's done what, 3 comps now since returning to pipe skiing? And only won a third of them? Yeah, he's finished.

Gimme a break.

Tanner and Wallace both ride for Armada, and I'm pretty sure Tanner has voiced his respect for what Wallace has done at such a young age. Since Tanner has returned from this second MAJOR injury he's encountered, he has not talked the shit and crap about winning the Pipe comps the way he used to. He has simply talked about being happy to be back on skis and riding with his friends and considers himself to be blessed to even ride in the X Games.

I'll admit, I was a big time hater of Tanner a couple years back. But he has completely changed my opinion of him with how he's reinvented his own image and attitude towards skiing and life. His injuries combined with the loss of his dear friend CR have really forced him to look at his life in a different light...with more respect and gratitude. And I have a ton more respect for him now.

There's no longer a reason to hate on Tanner like you did with this thread. The guy is 30 for crying out loud. He took skiing to new heights numerous times throughout his career, and I bet we haven't seen the last of him.

OP has a bit of a point

That being said, I think Tanner is skiing super conservatively right now. He knows he's older, and he knows what comes with that and the injuries. I mean, he was chucking dubs before the last injury, and he's thrown them since, so it's not like he's out of touch with the kind of tricks he needs to throw to be successful.

I think a lot of people, me included, were expecting him to come right back and reclaim his spot as the king of halfpipe. While the X-games result is kind of disappointing, I think it goes to show that he's older, and dare I say wiser.

What I think will be interesting to see is how long it takes until he really goes for it and stops being conservative. He's still ranked pretty high among the US guys in fis points and stuff, but guys like Dumont, and the young guns like Blunck are catching up quick. So if he wants to make it to the olympics, he's going to have to stop skiing conservatively and giver 'er or else there won't be a spot for him.

I like t-hall a lot, he used to be my favorite skier, but in my opinion he should have stopped competing when he got hurt . He is still a incredibly good skier, but he has peeked and I think it's time for him to stop competing so he doesn't get hurt or mad at him self for not qualifying.

HAHAHHA, wait till you see THC, you bout to be eating those words you and get a hemorrhoid when they come out ya ass... Believe it or not, X games does not qualify whether a skier is back or not. If ya feel it ya feel it, if ya dont ya don't, some days you do some days you don't.. T doesnt talk shit, he spits truth, reach into what he says and grab some knowledge. The guys been a top dog since the beginning I think he knows a thing or two about the skiing background that a lot of people may not or cannot understand..

Wait and see.

Thall is training for olympics! meanz he had to compete without "performance enhancing drugs"shit, even thall realizes how scary it is to ski without getting high real fast?!?!?!??!

^ and thats why we love NS.

Never in a basball/basketball forum would derek jeter comment on his plays after a game, or lebron comment on why he missed 2 winning free throws.

man, for as much hate as you get your'e still my favorite skier. i really fucking hope you can make the olympics! and FUCK weed as a performance enhancing drug. good luck, your'e the reason i started skiing in the first place.

Where did Dumont come from and why is nobody surprised?? Didnt hear anything from him in ages..

they comment to some slutty blonde who knows nothing about their sport...or grown men in suits talk about it.

seriously grassroots that the post game report is live on NS!
