in the febuary issue of skiing. Daron Rahlves calles him out for saying that racers are talentless weenies in freeskier, and he says that hell fly him out to Kitzbuhel and give him some skis just to see if he would get to the bottom of the race course. pretty bad ass deal if you ask me, any one think he would do it?

 
this is old news, it happened at the beginning of january... and tanner hasn't accepted/declined the offer. he won't. he didn't think that daron would make an offer like that. and tanner would shit himself on a downhill course.

i dont know if he will but i'm sure he could. getting down a racecourse ain't that hard, i dont care how steep it is, even if he goes really slow he'll eventually get down... where as you send a racer to hit an 80 foot table and he probably wouldnt even try it. (that was tanners arguement sorta, he said a halfpipe, but anyone can drop in a halfpipe and ride up the walls)

however i respect racing, its more of a high school jock type sport though than freeriding is, its just different then what we do, takes alot of skill and i read that when you go around a turn at 80-90mph makes the g-force on ur leg like 500-800lbs. i dont know if tanner could handle that, but i also dont know if a racer could clear a huge booter and do a cork 10 over it, so its just difference, not less skill

 
becky, its not that hard to go down a course, its just skiing, i dn about tanner but this is my 10th season skiing, i'm sure i could get down it at a reasonable skiing speed

 
daron, along with bode spends a lot of time in the park... im pretty sure he could slide a rail... actually im positive. look at jeff harrison, hes hella good at freeskiing, yet he gets point results on the Europa Cup...

This November, World Cup downhiller Daron Rahlves has been trading some trash talk with new-school freeride icon Tanner Hall. Sitting in the lobby of a Beaver Creek hotel at this week's World Cups, Rahlves responded to some disparaging comments Hall had made in the pages of Freeskier Magazine. Here is some of what Rahlves said to assembled sports writers.

'He had some good things to say about how he loves skiing, and how he needs to thank his parents for giving him this opportunity. Which is great. That’s how most kids start, and it’s good to see the respect there. But the question was, what do you feel about Bode Miller making these multimillion-dollar contracts, and he’s like 'it’s b------ man,' and 'this man' and 'that man.' And 'downhill racing’s so easy,' and 'all you have to do is go top to bottom and there’s no changes in terrain.'

'Are you kidding me? If somebody’s going to be talking smack about something and putting something down, they should know. He’s not educated enough. He’s young, and he’s in his own little freeskiing world. To me, I think it’s great the way they expand the sport, and it’s something the industry must pay attention to. But jumping on rails is more like rollerblades. To me it’s not skiing. If you’re skiing, you’re taking stuff on the mountain and using natural terrain and stuff. These guys are impressive and they work hard to accomplish these tricks, but it’s the same thing over and over again.

I pose a challenge to Tanner. I said 'I’ll hook you up with some downhill boards and you come up to Val Gardena or Kitzbuhel. And just make it to the bottom. That’s all I ask.' I gave him the dates. 'I’m not claiming anything, and I’m not trying to put down freeskiing at all, because it’s a great part of the sport. But there’s a lot of respect that they should give us even if they don’t think it’s quite what they have. We’re out there doing what we can, and it’s not easy. I want to see him strap on some 215’s. He couldn’t even turn those things, couldn’t even ski a clean arc on those things.

'I think what Tanner Hall is getting to is saying that ski racers just go top to bottom racing gates and that’s it. Another thing he said was, 'you get me on a downhill and I’ll make it to the bottom, and I might not be as fast as these guys, but you put any ski racer in a pipe and he won’t even drop in.'

look, tanner could make it down. just because a kid can throw a 12 or switch 10 doesnt mean he can go pro. you have to be good at all aspects, sliding rails, doing jumps, riding backcountry, doing the pipe, and of course skiing downhill. there arent pro park rats, they all learned how to ski first. i know i did, and i'm positive i could get down that course, but then again i'm ex racer and freestyle

 
i think he would do it, you have to realize how bad that would be for his sponsorships, they dont want bad publicity like that. look, i've seen pictures of kebutzell or whatever, its steep, but i could get down it, maybe not on 215s, but then again i'm 5'7

he said theres no terrain change? i watched a super g the other day, and it was crazy the stuff they ski down. i admit that i also race (also not my choice). its not as easy as you think, its not a perfectly groomed course or anything, they get really crappy most of the time, and going down them at those speeds really isnt as easy as it looks (especialy at 80 mph or however fast they go)

i like skiing because its an escape from football training. as soon as footballs over i lift every weekday all year increasing in intensity as fall comes around. i used to love racing, but i wouldnt want to have to train for that

^Rahlves grow up? Rahlves was perfectly respectful, he was just posing a challenge to Tanner. Rahlves did nothing but compliment freeskiing. Who do you think would dominate in Bella Coola? Tanner or Rahlves? My vote goes to Rahlves.

I think someone should set up a comp with various venues. It should have Big Mountain, Slopestyle, Pipe, Downhill, Slalom, Giant Slalom, Skiercross, and Big-air. It could be spread out over multiple days and it would truly define who is all around.

he would do fine but you have to respect racers that is how skiing started out and it does take tough training to be a racer they dont exactly have easy sports in the olympics (except curling)

 
I actually think that tanner might not get down a steep icy downhill course on 215s without falling or screwing up. Ya he could ski the thing shittily and slide like ten turns between each gate, but thats not really skiing the course.

Anyone who agrees with Tanner should be shot. He says he could make it down a course but not fast, well that's the same thing as saying Bode could do a rail just not a 450 on, or riding the walls of the pipe but not airing out. dont get me wrong i am not a huge race fan, i actually think it is really boring, but aftre racing for a few years just at school, i have grow a great deal of respect for racers. what is rediculus is every one says OH i bet so and so racer cant do a 1080 over chads gap or whatever, but being that thats a rediculus trick and that is one of the highest skilled tricks,any racer could turn around and say i bet tanner cant do a race course in any where near as fast as a racer. This is because the entire point of racing is the see who can go down the trail the fastest, and freeski the entire point is to do the best tricks, so it isnt even comparable.

And December 15-18=Ultimate bumps or Jumps, which Tanner Could have been in. Rhalves called him out on 2 Freeskiing competetion days. I think that should be noted.

i'm not sure if any of you watched the olimpic downhill last time the winter olimpics were on, but the DH course had a jump comming out of a 70-80 mph turn and landing on another turn, so these courses arn't easy, pluss after watching some of the crashes i wouldn't call any of those guys pussies

1080chubs you are so wrong about being able to just ski those runs at reasonable speeds. Just go look at Kitzbul(SP?). But seriously it intimidates many racers who have skied 3x as many as ur 10 years.

Pete is currently sulking around Mt. Hood, shooting with Poor Boyz Productions and hitting on Kristi Leskinen. She hates guys, Pete lamented, so it’s not going good. Apparently Canada isn’t the only thing that’s tough for Pete to get into.

tanners not the best person for that arguement, but i think he has a point, all the racers at my hill exluding a few suck, all they do is yell stupid shit from the chair they can back up. Like its funny i spend all my time in the park and if we ever get snow i hunt for what back country we have (yay east coast) and when we had our skier cross tons of racers showed up (lots of them even wearin gay race suits) and i still managed 3rd on my scartch FS's which i havent waxed since i bought them last year, and the edges are as dull as fuck from jibbin. And im not even gettin in to those racers billy goatin abilities
