Tall....not fat....Tees and Hoodies

Why is it so hard to get some legit ones? For real. Is anyone else having trouble finding tall tees and hoodies?

My friends and I have been talking about this for awhile now. We've all done conventional searching, trips online and directly to the racks of footlocker, finish line, tj maxx, walmart...generally done in shame and to no avail - tees and hoodies here aren't tall, they're just damn huge.

Then there's companies like jiberish, plenty soul, edoggo, lrg, taf. They're better and have some good designs going but why does every decent looking tee or hoodie have to be accompanied with a ridiculously large logo, scripted company name, poor cut, or a price tag of $100+?

There's some tees/hoodies are cool but then you have the issue of everyone rocking that one really legit hoodie on the hill. I've seriously started looking at old hoodies in desperation thinking what could be sewn together but if you have to call your grandma to sew your gear together (as I've admittedly done), something is being missed in the market.

Hence, why my friends and I are trying to start a company - all limited-edition, high-quality, bad-ass looking tall tees, hoodies, etc

(at an affordable price point) instead of charging insane prices for

mediocre gear with names and logos running all over it.

I'm new to NS but was hoping to get your feedback on what do you guys want in your tall tees/hoodies? Printed or solid designs? or both. To your thighs, your knees? Super soft? Price you'd want to pay?

We have solid design ideas but want to see what everyone is into on a wider level. Any advice is much appreciated.

if you hit up the ns searchbar there are tons of kids out there making narrow, slim-fitting tall tees, hoodies, crewnecks, etc. i dont mean to be mean, but there are lots of quality small clothing co's out there, they just need to be discovered and publisized more. yeah dig?

Footlocker is your friend. They have blank tall tees in like 10 different colors. And they're almost always having some kind of X tees for $X.

heres what i think:

tiny ass logo (inch, half inch). at least twice as long as they are wide. made with same material as the jiberish polos (interlocken?). also, make them in dull colors. not just rainbow.

for 1 there are plenty of companies on ns selling tall hoodies and tees, 2 the only reason all the good things are over priced (Jiberish, plenty soul, edoggo, ext.) is becuase people want them, supply and demand, its worth what someone is willing to pay for it. but good luck on the company, i look for mid theigh fitting hoodies and just below waist t shirts, not to flashy but still cool looking

In the hope of cheap stuff.

Like my shit like mid to high thigh. of course super soft is good.. but still good quality. Price.... less than 50 bucks for hoodies

like 15 for t shirts.

I appreciate all the feedback and I’m gonna try to hit on every point.

First off, I definitely respect Jiberish and own a few hoodies myself. Unfortunately, that also makes me more aware of how little there is left to spend on other gear. If you have the money to do it, for sure, but a lot of guys can’t afford to pass up a new pair of skis in the name of a few j-crowns.

From checking out the searchbar, I came across some of the start-ups you were talking about. I hope the legit brands do make it and get some more of the publicity they deserve. If they’re selling quality gear, I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before they get there. Even still, there seems to be a lot of threads of kids looking for more tall tees and hoodies. The market is saturated right now but it’s not necessarily saturated with clothes we’re trying to buy. That's why brands like Jiberish, Plenty Soul, and Edoggo are getting the demand they are - there are so few quality ones like them, despite market saturation. If anything, having another brand like ours will only ensure all companies are making badass clothes at decent price points for everyone.

Respect to UKtalltees and Flow Motion for getting started but in looking through their clothes, we’re going for a different look. Maybe I’m seeing this wrong but UKtalltees seems to be offering talls for $23.55 each, which is $30.14 after shipping. For a blank tall, I’d probably look elsewhere. Footlocker and Walmart have some tees like people said but they’re totally blank too and the quality isn’t there.

Our line has an old-school feel but with modern stoke – like if Tom Wallisch were to jib around with the Fresh Prince. We're going for a small ass logo as someone was mentioning, made from super-soft material (narrowed down to a few manufacturers out of Southern Cal, NZ, Sweden, and Austria). We have colors that are bold and some more low-key ones as well. Sizes are gonna range to fit mid-thigh to under the knee, depending what you’re looking for. Based on the manufacturer and location, prices are looking to be in the range of $15-$20 for a tall tee and $50-$75 for a hoodie.

As soon as we finish edits and narrow down the list for production, I’ll post up the designs so you can all see them. Sorry to the guy looking for tall V-necks – I don’t think we’ll be taking it that direction but we're most likely adding some tall vests and fitted hats to the collection. Thanks again -

Gen-X's tall tees are tall and slim, if you have one go check it out.
Sorry if someone else said Gen-X, i didn't feel like reading.

i just want to commend you for this. being 6'1" tall and about 165lbs, anything that is legitimately long enough for me to even wear in real life is massive on me in the torso. as much hate as this will probably get from newschoolers, it'd be awesome to find a medium sized t shirt, either plain or with subtle graphics, that i could wear to work that fits appropriately through the torso but actually comes down below my belly button.

Might be worth checking out First Drop- firstdropouterwear.com

tall tees in lots of colors, the XXL tall is taller than a 6xl tall tee from foot locker or gen-x, etc. They are super thick, high quality and pre-shrunk...

^just got a xxl first drop hoodie
im 6'1" and skinny
The thing is like to my knees and is like barely wider than a large t shirt

Seriously, get First Drop. If not only because they have amazing hoodies with vibrant lively colors and an incredibly perfect fit, than because they are the most legit company out there and i say this with zero hesitation.

ehhhh, i tried my friends xl on, and i really didn't like the fit. thats just my opinion though

about knee length...solid colors but with simple designs in the middle or bottom...Get some ideas from Kalvery ski the east and JIBERISH!

compared to the other threads of guys trying to start companies, you sound like u got a good idea, Im really interested in seeing your product

Once you get going more you may realize why those companies like jiberish and voleurz charge what they do, if you are making limited edition high end clothing like you plan to, theres so many variables that go into making a high end piece of clothing. I have been working for over 2 years now on sourcing everything from custom fabric, buttons, labels, zippers and manufactures. You will go through many different sources trying to find the quality you want and a price you can afford for the qty you want to get. then if you want to sell your collection in stores they mark up everything 100%, so you sell them a sweatshirt for 40 bucks and they mark it up to 80. Good luck with your business. Check out what I'm working on if you would like. I have a line up of 3 different tall cut/sew sweatshirts in 2 colorways each coming out early fall 2010

Thanks again for the responses - all this information has been incorporated into the final look we're going for. First season will be bold, geometric colors (both bright and mute), small name/logo on most every piece, and we'll go from there. We can't let designs out until we at least have them in production but as I mentioned, it's a new-school meets old-school... tom wallisch meets fresh prince...kind of feel.

We're about to get these produced and want to throw out the idea of making the line unisex - same designs, same tall length, just different fit. Girls are buying guys clothes as it is so this would be the next step. Guys look legit, girls look legit, everyone looks better on the hill and we can all procreate tall tee-wearing ski lords. Just kidding...but seriously.

We think it could work and want to get your feedback. Would you buy if it was a unisex line that's done well or would you not go for it at all? only make some products unisex? why or why not? As always, appreciate your feedback and it'll be used in the end-product

finishline has tall tees in all colors up to 4xl and they AREN'T fat.
also GEN X i dont know if they have them in your state but see if they do. the whole store is big and tall and dirt cheap. if not, any hoodstore will work

^^^^^

Thanks guys but the post above about a unisex line is the most recent one. We just want to get some thoughts on that.

The unisex idea could work but it would have to be done very well, i think you should make some tees/hoodies for women, some for men, and a few for both or the women can just buy the mens tees/hoodies and deal with it. Good luck with the company and post your website when you have one.

The other companies' gear isnt expensive because they are trying to make bank its because it is fucking expensive to start a company and initial costs have to be covered

i feel like a fucking dunce when my sleeves go so far past my elbows on a t-shirt. my opinion is that tall t's really only look cool if you wear it under a sweatshirt or a jacket. other than that you look like a dumb fuck

I would definitely consider buying a couple unisex tees. It's not so much the fit that needs to be changed but the sizing. In normal cotton tshirts I wear a mens small. It is super hard to find anything in a good length that isn't about twice as big widthwise as it needs to be.
