Taking it easy?

Last spring there was all this talk of being careful to avoid over burdening hospitals with injuries, but I'm not seeing that talk coming up for this season. In Utah resorts will be opening up in the next week, with ICU capacity currently at 85%, likely going higher with the exponential cases being seen over past weeks.

When resorts open there will be injuries regardless. Personally I'm going to keep skiing hard, but I plan on keeping it within my limits and not trying anything I'm uncomfortable with.

Also will be interesting to see if covid will impact the amount/scale of features at resorts.

One of the mountains I got a pass to just announced they won't be having a park this year (Loveland). While the park wasn't anything super large, it was well built and I was looking forward to going there on weekends instead of the busier mountains.

EDIT: I do wonder whether the decision to have a park or not was due to reduced budget (snowcat time / worker hours) or due to COVID concerns (people gathering at the top of the park or something) or a combination of both.

Going as I normally would, which is doing stuff within my limits. If hospitals get overloaded, i won't be out at all, since hopefully things will shut down before that happens, to allow for the truly needed sick to get the attention they need.

This happened at Revelstoke too this year and it must be a budget related cut. That being said I think there was only 1 paid staff member and then everyone else who worked in the park was a volunteer, so they can't be saving that much money....

Hearing about the first few resorts opening (out west in Canada at least) it seems like every hill so far is pretty loose on their covid policies, so it will either change when everyone opens up and resorts get more strict or if every hill stays loose I don't think we'll make it to February.

Last season I got hurt early season, and I'm definitely in worse shape now than when I started last year. Not going to take it easy, but not going super hard off the bat, just gonna get my joints and bones stronger first. Late Feb-March April is usually when I turn up the gas and hit some new stuff, so maybe I won't do that this year.

I assume it's both, but probably more on the budget side, especially for these resorts that aren't really known for their parks. One near me (powder mountain) cut their parks this season for similar reasons, and they really aren't known for their parks.

yeah it all depends on your local area. If the hospital is full, you should take it easy. If not, go get sendy.

All I know is that I'm done with that whole "stay the fuck inside" bullshit from last year, going outside and getting exercise is key to good health. Plus, the reason why virus numbers are shooting up right now is cause too many people are hanging out inside...go have fun with your friends outside in the winter!

My aunt in WA just had a pretty big surgery get cancelled because it’s too dangerous for non-COVID patients to go to the hospital :(

be careful y’all
