Take to a shop or DIY? - Core Shot

hey guys,

Got a little adventurous for early season conditions and took a nice hit to the base of my Rossi Scratch. This is the first time I've ever had a hit this bad, and I was wondering if this is just something I should take to my local shop, or if it just able to be filled with p-tek or some other DIY fix. Looks to me that I got to the core, but really not sure if that ruined the waterproofing underneath or anything else. Any advice would be helpful. Below is the picture of my ski and the hit that needs fixed. It is roughly 7cm long as you can see. View attachment 679497

I'm no professional, but I'm pretty sure the core is damaged and the waterproofing is ruptured, I wouldn't take the risk of fixing it myself and then in the middle of the mountain the whole base of the ski tears up.

I also think that the heat from a repair candle will be very bad for the core, but i'm not sure

I say you take it to a professional and see what he has to say

Yeah youre definitely gonna want some higher P-Tex percentage base material to fill that gouge. Candle P-Tex is really just a stop-gap in the field kind of repair to make sure things dont get worse. Your probably looking $50 to $75 to fill the hole and get a full tune and base true

Get out of here Matt, most shops are gonna want to do a full tune and structure, get the ski looking like new again, should be around $50. Matt does have a point though, you might want to get it fixed and tuned but ski something else until the coverage is better

The skis look barely used besides the gash. Look at the edges and how sharp they are. Not need for a full tune up besides the fact that the bases need fixing up

...the skis are 10 years old and worth maybe $100 before this coreshot. If I was op id be looking at fixing it on the cheap as he obviously doesn't spend alot on his equipment.
